gstagelx
I have a large DWG file that have imported .. When we are trying to apple the scaling to the file the program crashes. Is there a way to do it in sections as to not affecting the entire document which has over 300,000 items in the 1 layer This is a ship drawing. Quote Link to comment
Jeff Prince
in AutoCAD: move the center of the drawing to 0,0 delete any unneeded features purge wblock out any items or areas you wish to have as separate design layers in VWX …..Then import into Vectorworks Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
DO NOT IMPORT INTO A FILE THAT ALREADY HAS DATA. Import the DWG into a new blank file. You can scale it as necessary there. Then you can Copy/Paste the data into your working file or reference the scaled DWG into your working file. Quote Link to comment

nakedeye
Firstly are you on Mac or PC?You may find a PC handles it better. Also as Pat says import into a blank file and then xref it in to the drawing as this will keep your main file smaller and tidier. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Nina Ivanova Posted September 25, 2022 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 25, 2022 If you need to scale the imported graphics immediately after the import, then drawing has not been imported with the correct units. This might be either because the DWG file setting for units and actually used in the drawing units are different or because the file is set to unitless. You can control units conversion from DWG/DXF Import options dialog. Import the drawing in a blank document and check the size of any object from the drawing. If it does not seem correct, then just import again with appropriately changed units. If you need to import the drawing in an already started project, then save the document before import, check the imported drawing and if you do not like the drawing size, just close the document without saving. And yes, importing in a separate document and referencing it in the main project is a good solution. One more approach is to directly reference the DWG file.
