  1. Trying to manage a team (in my case quite small) and keeping our tools and commands in the most efficient locations is a bit of a challenge. As I understand it, when saving a workspace it is stored to the user folders. If you want to share that workspace with the team (so they can benefit from your development) you need to copy the user folder contents to the workgroup folders. I have done this. However If I want to edit the workspace further it is saved back to my user folder (is that correct). It would be good to allow users (possibly just admins?) to edit the team workspaces directly (just as you would a standard template) so that everyone benifits and works in a similar way. It's not for everyone, so they are still entitled to use their own workspaces, but... Cheers, R
  2. We’re now working from home and having VW issues related to the workgroup folder. We’re using a split tunnel VPN that uses our local wifi for everything, except connecting to our office server which uses the office internet. File transfer to the server over internet is still relatively fast (over 20mbps). The issue we’re having is VW takes 15min to open without any project, and once open nearly every project file will crash VW. The temporary solution has been to remove the workgroup file link, and then VW opens in less than a minute and opens files normally. We heavily use the workgroup folder to coordinate resources between projects so this is only a temporary solution for us. Please could you help. Thank you
  3. We have a strange occurence currently in our office. We use the Workgroup Library configuration to store collective resources, including template files. These are typically visible to every user via the Create Document>Use Document Template drop down menu. One user cannot access the workgroup templates, even though the program is connected to the Workgroup Library and all other resources located within are accessible. Every other user in the office is fine. Why would this one user not be able to access workgroup library templates?
  4. Hi guys, I've created a custom formatted worksheet for our plant schedules that is just in a .vwx file on my desktop. I want everyone in my office to be able to have access to it via ourVW Workgroup. Is there a way for me to export just the worksheet into the Workgroup or do I maybe have to save the file it's in as a .sta template and access the worksheet in the Resource Manager form there? Any help is appreciated 🙂 Thanks!
  5. What is the best way to manage Irrigation Resources in a multi-user environment? We have been making great use of Workgroup Libraries for several years now, but we haven't yet figured out how to collectively manage a library for the irrigation components. Right now, everyone still references the Vectorworks Libraries for the basic "out-of-the-box" irrigation components; however, we often have to add other components to the library. When adding to the library, it seems that this information is only stored in the User Folder and there is no way to store this library in the Workgroup Library for collective use and reference. This means that each user must add each custom component to their library individually, or we have to move the library files around and overwrite each time someone adds something new? That cannot be the intent? Additionally I have noticed that when "Library" files are duplicated to the identical tree in the Workgroup Library, the irrigation tools cannot access them anyway. The only place the menu tools know where to look for irrigation components is in the Vectorworks Libraries location. It would be great if someone could address these issues so that we can effectively build libraries with the irrigation tools in the near future. Otherwise we are just wasting time individually managing libraries. Thanks.
  6. Do you really need to have the Design suite in order to share workgroup resources from a cloud based collaboration service such as Dropbox?
  7. We have a multi seat network license for Spotlight / Fundamentals. I want to create a common (on our server) location for everyone to grab symbols from so our drawings are consistent. I've made .vwx files from the default libraries of the lighting fixtures we use most often and audio symbols we use most often etc. I can get these to display in the Resource Manager under Favorites but this way requires coworkers to download and reinstall the files on their hard drives whenever there is a change to one of those files. I cannot seem to get a workgroup set up (is this the best option for what Iam trying to do?). I am confused by the file structure requirements... I am using the following: Z:\Library\CAD\Vectorworks\Vectorworks Workgroup Files\Vectorworks 2018\Libraries\Favorites where "Vectorworks Workgroup Files" is the file location on the server. But nothing shows up in the resource Manager after I update the User Folders within VW Options and restart... Is it possible to use custom .vwx files in a workgroup? What am I missing?
  8. Hi All, I can't wrap my head around this feature in the libraries. I have found the directory for both user libraries and workgroup libraries. Even if I add a file in there, it doesn't show up. Could someone help me out?
  9. We have been playing around with the new fence/railing tool and like that you can save as symbols to a custom location. It just so happens that custom location is only the USER folder. This is fine for personal storage, but in a large office, we need the ability to link this tool to a WORKGROUP folder as well. Of course, with the resource manager, custom symbols can be easily located in either location, but in the tool itself, it seems that the custom profiles are only loaded from a USER folder and not from a mirrored location in a WORKGROUP folder.
  10. When using the new irrigation tools we are trying to determine the best way to share ONE master catalog. We are a multiple station office and need to be all sharing the same resources. The current 2017 installation puts the default catalog on the local C: drive; therefore, every computer has a locally different (albeit the same content) starting catalog. This catalog is extremely extensive, but does not contain ALL of the equipment necessary that we use on a daily basis. Adding catalog data is very straight forward, but the problem I noticed is when a workgroup individual user needs to add equipment to the catalog. This information is stored in separate .txt files in the user folder, but stored separately from any working folder setup. This means that no one else can access the information created by that user without going to the effort of moving and merging that data with the data in the workgroup library. We have a working library that everyone shares, is there a way to move the Master/Default content to that location and then when ANY user needs to add equipment, they add it to the workgroup location and not their individual user folder? Otherwise it seems we have to go through what could be a troubling copy and paste methodology to store the new catalog information. If this functionality doesn't exist, consider this a wishlist request that should be addressed ASAP to allow for larger offices to control the workflow of sometimes complex irrigation catalog information collectively.
