  1. I'm experimenting with moving our planting schedule/legends from worksheets to graphic legends. I'm having an issue with the legend maintaining its size and the symbols aligning all on the center. What settings am I missing? Is it possible to manually adjust the list order? similar to how keynote numbering works? Based on the attached screenshot (the right image) can graphic legends achieve this? and are they ideally supposed to replace worksheets for this level of data? is there a way to connect the symbol with the correct lineweight and viewport setting into a worksheet? I know there is the image function... but it appears broken with not an accurate line weight. The current worksheet looks good. and is achieved by adding individual plant viewports and dragging them into place.. which becomes a tedious movement exercise prone to error whenever that sheet is updated.. I'm at a bit of a loss on how to speed up this documentation and looking for a few answers or recommendations on what is the best practice. thanks in advance
  2. This is a proposed change to the planting tool to make it faster. I feel like it takes too long and is always too confusing between the styles and the replacing styles, and the number of steps/clicks to finally select the plant you have in mind and move on to the next one. What if I have a planting of 50+ different plants? Is the way around this (other than the illustrated idea in the PDF) is to create a template file with common plants I use, or can they show up in the Resource Manager? Additionally, if I had a spread sheet or text file with the list of plants for a design, how could that be imported and evaluated to produce one instance of each plant in the list? From there I could copy and paste, eyedropper tool... Hoping the illustration gets the idea across!
  3. I'm sure I've seen this topic raised before so apologies, I can't find the thread. Q. Is it possible to produce a mini plant list specific to separate setting out drawings for different borders? I have a planting scheme for a front and back garden over various terraced borders. I have created a plant schedule for the whole project and dumped this on the main overall planting design sheet. I have used different planting layers for >Trees >Shrubs >Perennials so that I can switch these on and off for planting in different phases and produce a setting out plan separately as such. I have produced a series of setting out drawings on A3 for different borders, and thought it would be a good idea to produce a mini schedule / plant list on each of these drawings summarising the plants for these areas (will also help when plants arrive so that the plants can be taken to the various zones). Is this possible? without having to create lots of additional layers/classes for different border areas? Was thinking of somehow selecting plants in that viewport and trying to create a list of plants from that selection? But not sure how to do. Many thanks in advance

    Plant Label

Hi, I am having problem labeling plants. Somehow if I turn on the tag "bubble" option VW will double label the plant. The tag setting is attached below. Any thoughts? Thank you.
  5. Hi all. I am hoping someone would be able to help me with this one. I have created my own plant catalogue for a project (eventually, after many hours of trial and error). Then I batch-created Plant Styles from it and assigned my 2D symbols to them. Unfortunately, upon insertion, the Plant objects disappear. When I tried to edit the Plant Style, notification appears with information that the symbol's 3D information is corrupt and a 3D locus will be used instead. Well, I didn't even bother to assign 3D representations to them styles for now, so that's a second surprise (first was that the blocks/ symbols used as graphics were 2D). The funny thing is, that when I try to Edit 3D component of any symbol, the editing window opens but there is no content. The symbol is not dubbed hybrid 2D/3D symbol, so I don't get what it is all about. After leaving the symbol definition, it actually works. It seems that the program requires to open up the symbol definition to rectify it in its own way. Now, I have almost 100 plants there. How can I batch-rectify this? Can I replace symbols for all the plants at once? Or, do I need to recreate the styles from the catalogue again with different symbols? I needed to postpone my submission because of that, so I am trying to get that resolved over the weekend. Does anyone have any clue or advice what to do?
  6. Hi guys, I've been working with some tools to improve my planting schemes. The Plant tools already a very complete tool but there's a lack on it: random planting schemes. The normal reply would be the Landscape Area Tool. Take the following example: a certain area, choose 3 species and there you go. There is one problem: it doesn't give us the individual planting scheme in 2D, but it appears in 3D mode: I explored a very interesting Marionnette Object that would help: The result: But there is a problem: it doesn't give you the control that the Landscape Area Tool allows (qty/m2, %, etc.) So, am I missing someting or maybe this would fit on the Wishlist Forum? It's obvious that the information is on the Landscape Area object (otherwise it wouldn't give us a 3D representation and quantities). Why don't make it available on 2D representation? This would be important for Executive Plans, sometimes it is a little to vague to let that information missing. Thanks!!!
  7. Hi guys, I've created a custom formatted worksheet for our plant schedules that is just in a .vwx file on my desktop. I want everyone in my office to be able to have access to it via ourVW Workgroup. Is there a way for me to export just the worksheet into the Workgroup or do I maybe have to save the file it's in as a .sta template and access the worksheet in the Resource Manager form there? Any help is appreciated 🙂 Thanks!
  8. I don't know if this a 2019 issue or I haven't been paying attention but there is something clearly wrong with text sizes and labels with the planting tool. As you can see in the attached images I have plant tags that show as 10 pt on the design layer but when one goes to the sheet layer the text shows as larger than that. I only just now noticed it because the drawing label tool is set to 10 pt and it is scaled correctly. I've tried different fonts as well just to verify and each time the plant tag is bigger than it should be. Any help on resolving this will be greatly appreciated!
  9. Hello, I am hoping to get some help with a potential marionette script. I am a novice at marionette and have no idea if this is even possible, but basically I'm hoping to Create Plants from a very basic circle for all plants marked as Favorites in the Vectorworks Plant database. Additionally, it would be great if you could assign the Plant Definition's width, height, spacing, ID, etc. from information present in the database. I don't know if marionette can access outside database information and then put it in the right place within a Plant Definition. I actually don't even know if it is possible to create a plant from marionette. Thanks in advance for the help.

  11. I'm working on a project as a contractor and my client wants the plant bubbles to be rectangles, not like the one provided, but more like a square the same size as the hexagon but a square instead. Anyone have any ideas on making a custom Tag Bubble? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. sample-finished planting plan.pdf
