  1. Any thoughts as to why Absolute Address would not be visible as an available field when exporting the *.xml for Lightwright exchange? In a new drawing it appears correct, but is missing in my working file. New Drawing Missing in my working file.
  2. Hi all, I've noticed with multiple file that in spotlight settings, "export on exit" never stays checked on. causing a lot on reconciling with Lightwright. Has anyone had this issue or know ways to fix it. Thanks for the help!
  3. I've been playing with the new cable tools in VW2017. I am wondering if there is any way for the tools to drop the info for whatever jumper into it's associated fixture. For example, if I am using the "Assign Multicable Circuits" tool it is assigning circuit name, circuit number, as well as dropping a cable into the drawing based on your settings. Is there a setting or way to have that cable input into a field in the fixture. So in addition to assigning circuit name and number it would also put "5' L6-20" into a "Jumper" field or "10' 5pin DMX" into a "Data" field. Is this something that already exists or can be done within the current version? This would allow cable fields to be exported to Lightwright 6 which I think would make managing the cable info created in Vectorworks much easier.
  4. For the fourth consecutive year, global design and BIM software solutions provider Vectorworks, Inc. will continue its partnership with the Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas (SILV) as part of its ongoing support for student designers. As a first-of-its-kind intensive training program, SILV offers improved and efficient ways to train students in all areas of live entertainment in an effort to grow the next generation of practitioners in the field. Vectorworks aids in this mission by donating funds to the organization and teaching workshops on cutting-edge entertainment technology. “The partnership that SILV has with Vectorworks has dramatically expanded our students’ experience with digital drafting and increased their pre-visualization and console programming capabilities, making the plotting and paperwork process possible,” said Jane Childs, director at SILV. “The accomplishments achieved after two short weeks with our Vectorworks friends is phenomenal.” For the fourth year in a row, Frank Brault, product marketing manager — entertainment at Vectorworks, will volunteer to teach classes. In addition to the week-long Spotlight class that will cover basic concepts to advanced 2D and 3D techniques, Brault will also run a week-long course about Vision, the pre-visualization software developed by Vectorworks. Students will have the opportunity to learn about Spotlight from June 3 to 8, 2018 and Vision and Lightwright from July 1 to 6, 2018. “Vectorworks is committed to the academic community and is passionate about supporting the Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas. Teaching these courses is the perfect opportunity for us,” said Brault. “One of my favorite things about teaching these students is watching the changes in confidence that take place as they become proficient with Vectorworks. At the end of the training, they are excited about taking their experience in the classroom to new roles in the entertainment world and beyond.” To participate in the SILV program, students must first apply. Submissions are ongoing. About Vectorworks, Inc. 5. Hi all, Wondering if there's any way to export the XYZ coordinates of Vectorworks Focus Points and then map them into Lightwright focus points? There's a export "Focus" function in the spotlight export pop up dialogue (See screenshot) but only the focus names turn up. Thoughts? Gabriel
  6. We're using dropbox to host a project file, with the working files, xml files, and lightwright6 files saved locally. Every hour or so, vectorworks will quit. No hanging, no crash report, it simply quits. I've got the lighting layer checked out, an no one else is working on the lighting layer. Frequently, when restarted, lightwright exchange is turned off, and I have to re-build the connection to the xml file. Any ideas?
  7. According to the Lightwright manual it will exchange X, Y, Z coordinates with VW but they can not be edited. It would be really useful if they could be edited. It would then be possible to create lights in Lightwright and have them appear close to their final positions in VW as opposed to stacking on top of each other when the two programs exchange data.

  9. I have a VWX file & Lightwright file linked via the XML file for data exchange, but as I make edits in LW, I get an alert "Cannot create Dudley's LP v2017.xml Data Exchange has been turned off" This happens even if I start a new LW file with the same data. I'm almost at the point where I can turn data exchange off, but ... it is a rather large inconvenience. This was a VWX file that started in v2016 and was updated to v2017 after the scenic updates started getting pushed to me in v2017.I'm also crossposting this in the Lightweight forum to see if anyone bites there. Thanks,Simon
