  1. Hi Team. In previous versions of Vectorworks Landmark the User Origin is recognised by the shapefile importer & exporter as the 0,0 point for GIS data. This allows shapefiles to be generated directly from drawings which have an offset User Origin through a previous CAD file import (eg. from a civil engineer or surveyor). You simply georeference the layer to the coordinate system of the received CAD file, and export. It also allows a shapefile imported into an existing drawing based on a previously imported CAD file to appear in the correct position, provided that the shapefile and the CAD file share the same coordinate system. In Vectorworks Landmark 2020 I've found so far that both the shapefile import and export functions ignore any User Origin settings, and handle GIS data relative to the Internal Origin only. This prevents a shapefile from being correctly exported from a drawing with an offset User Origin (through previous import of a surveyors CAD file), and results in shapefile data imported into drawings with an offset User Origin appearing at the wrong numerical coordinates within Vectorworks. Perhaps for technical reasons the introduction of the new Geolocate and Geoimage tools required this separation of GIS and CAD workflows, but it certainly seems like a step backwards in terms of CAD/GIS integration. I'd be interested to hear other's thoughts.
  2. I have a geo-referenced file, with geo-referenced data imported. The data in my file all sits in the correct place when I add a Geo-image to check the geo-graphic location - however, the file has never been 'geo-located' - so the internal origin is miles away from the data. If I try to geo-locate now, the data in my file moves position to retain it's offset position to the internal origin, which I don't want. I've tried this with both the geo-referencing turned on for all layers, and also turned off. Is there a way around this?

And with a paid ArcGIS Online services plan, customers can access more maps and other imagery directly in Vectorworks. “I love how Vectorworks often takes a user request to the next level, digging deep into the nature of the request and planning far ahead to meet user needs into the future,” said Anna Arbetter, licensed landscape architect at Futurity, Inc. “As an Esri user, the similarity to the ArcGIS environment makes Vectorworks even more of an asset for us. We use GIS extensively and incorporate it into every project. The streaming imagery service allows us to instantly assess whether our project data has shown up in the right location.   4. I have two files containing baseline information for my project - Topographic Survey and Architect's Layout. Both have been imported from DWG into their own new VW files, and georeferenced according to the procedure detailed in the previous georeferencing thread on this forum. I can Geo-image in both of these files and the drawings fit beautifully over the site. I now want to reference the information in these drawings into a new master file, using the design layer viewport referencing system, so that I can use the information to inform my own drawing. However, when I try to do this... while the X Y positions of the drawings remain correct, the GIS stake shows that the design layer viewport referenced layers, when created, are nowhere near the geo-located positions set in their original files. Am I missing something really straightforward? Any help much appreciated.

Through this, we have several opportunities to reach other design professionals like you who are looking to improve their site analysis and planning workflows, but less aware of how GIS and related geospatial resources enable them to do that within Vectorworks. We believe that sharing your workflow examples could inspire them to do just that. The recent release of Vectorworks Landmark, Architect and Designer 2020 introduced new GIS integration features, such as Geolocate and Geoimage, which can save a great amount of time in providing georeferencing to a file, or in adding visual context for the planning work you are including as part of your project deliverables. Prior to this year's release, and still certainly available, is the ability to import georeferenced shapefile (SHP) data and georeferenced image files, such as GeoTIFF, TFW, JGW, BPW, etc..     GIS Stake

    Is there a way to move a GIS stake to a defined co-ordinate position? For example, with a normal stake, you can place a stake, and then amend the X, Y details to move it to an accurate position. Can you do the same with a GIS stake, to identify a particular co-ordinate position, i.e. 257850E, 667750N (British Grid) - without having a line or point on the drawing already in this position to snap to?

  9. My client has an office in China and evidently use a different project or at least one offset from WGS-84. Would it be possible to get some guidance or an update that will add China to the list under Plate Carree, Ellipsoid GCJ-02 coordinate system?
  10. Hi, is there anything similar to multipart polygon? I want to import a shapefile containing a couple hundred polygons with records attached. I can custom select by different records, but than i want to make the similar ones "work" as one polygon for later work. Making a group is not an option, because after exporting the group that forgets the attached records. Does anyone have any solution for this or it is not coded in VW at all to work with multipart polygons?! Thanks!
  11. Ability to drape a georeferenced aerial photo or tiled photos onto a site model surface.
  12. I used shape files for many years and leveraged them to get projects started and prepare analysis. I can't seem to find anything that covers importing Geo-Referenced Ortho Photos. Can anyone help?
  13. When trying to map an aerial photo to a site model there has to be a better way that through the creation of a renderworks image texture for the aerial and then mapping it to the surface. It is inaccurate, cumbersome, and quite frankly a stupid way to do something seemingly quite simple. There should be a way to take an existing geo-located aerial photo and "DRAPE" it over a site model.
  14. We are trying to propose on a project that requires a fairly regulated interchange with certain GIS shapefile standards. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience exporting shapefiles (.shp) and if so, have you ever had to meet any standards? The requirements of our interchange are as follows: DIGITAL SUBMISSION STANDARDS: §The required format for digital submissions of the graphic data is an ESRI v10.4.1 shapefile or Geodatabase (personal or file) §Must be projected in NAD 83 CA State Plane V §Must contain FDGC and City compliant metadata (See section 08 for Metadata template) §Documentation on any MXDs or Domains created§Should be topologically correct against City data §Provide validation documentation (topologies, data quality checks)
