  1. Is it possible to link multiple files so that I can create a worksheet which counts all the objects from the files linked to that project ? Scenario as follows 1- I create a master file with all my custom made symbols, attach records etc 2- I then have multiple files, different rooms, spaces etc which are part of the same project, and have symbols from the masterfile within them 3- I create a worksheet on each sheet page on each drawing with a Bill of Quantities for that specific file 4- Can I have a worksheet that will count all the objects across the multiple project files ??? So I have a complete list of all items required for the project as a whole 😊 tia
  2. I've been struggling with finding a way to use keynotes effectively in Vectorworks - and for us, one of the most essential aspects is the ability to revise keynotes as a project proceeds through the design process. Our office uses keynotes with a numbered prefix keyed to the CSI division format, and all keynotes have the same number throughout a project. We only place keynotes in a sheet legend if the keynote actually appears on a sheet, and keynotes may frequently appear on many different drawings - plans, elevations, sections. Attached is a sample file showing an alternate system for placing and reporting keynotes, based on a keynote record format attached to a custom symbol. The system uses worksheets on each sheet layer to report the keynotes on that sheet, and a separate 'master' worksheet to handle global editing of keynotes. Global editing is limited - text or reference fields may be edited, but editing the actual keynote number will break the link - the keynote number is providing the key link to the worksheet. I'd love to get feedback or suggestions that would improve this system. 170527 VW 2017 test.vwx
  3. Greetings all, Delving into more advanced worksheets prompted me to ask about these two particular records. The Truss record and the Truss Record record. As you can see in the attached screen shot, I can use one or the other and get three different results whilst specifying the exact same record columns. I'd like to better understand why. I've figured out the right combination of settings to get the info I actually need. Why do the settings on the right side give me an empty column for the user field 1 and has missing info in some of the other cells? How do I have the same items have the "Truss" record not present when the setting on the left side worked using the "Truss" record? In the middle, why does it double everything? And why the empty cells? On the left, why do I have success in setting the basic criteria to "Truss" but only need to search the "Truss Record" record? Further, why did this and the settings on the right side offer the same counts? Sometimes I feel like I'm in a feedback loop. I've attached the file to play with as well. Thanks, Scott WorksheetsForTrussCounting.vwx
  4. The Volume function in a worksheet does not seem able to calculate the volume of a space? The space has a height, Show 3D is turned on? I can see the volume of the space if I use database row but when I use the VOLUME function it returns 0. In the example screenshot the criteria in the formula are the same as for the database rows I am also getting the same figure (just the gross) for Gross and Net Volume despite having set different heights for each?
  5. Help please. We are trying (and failing miserably) to create a window schedule of a 1.5 storey house that has rooflights and dormers. We can create window and door schedules easily enough, but when we try and include dormer windows or rooflights - they are just ignored by VW - Help.
  6. Hi guys, I've created a custom formatted worksheet for our plant schedules that is just in a .vwx file on my desktop. I want everyone in my office to be able to have access to it via ourVW Workgroup. Is there a way for me to export just the worksheet into the Workgroup or do I maybe have to save the file it's in as a .sta template and access the worksheet in the Resource Manager form there? Any help is appreciated 🙂 Thanks!
  7. One of the most frustrating and time consuming experiences in VW is the copy and pasting of database header rows and other worksheet elements. It would be an incredible if, when copying and pasting a database header row, that the paste result would remember the summarization and sort settings of the original copy. Instead, it forgets all summarization and sorting and if you have a fairly complex system of these results, you have to manually restore them on all necessary columns. This is also true with merged cells. Worksheets should remember the merge and wrap text settings of copied cells and apply them to the paste. Excel does this, so should VW. Pretty basic, but a big potential time saver.
  8. Hi There, Does anyone know if there's a way to turn classes off in a worksheet image? I create symbols to represent art objects for exhibition design, and I embed the 2D component of the hybrid symbols with a number for use on floor plans. This number has a different class than the image I would like to appear on the worksheet. Thanks for any help you can provide!
  9. =Area returns area of 2d objects and area of source object of an extrude. But returns 0 for other solids. By mistake, I found an unusual use for this extrude “=Area”: Floor Area of a massing model made from stacked extrudes. Anyone know why extrudes report via =Area but the other solids do not? =SurfaceArea is formula for total surface area of a solid. -B
  10. Is there a way to NOT see the Label Legend on an instrument when using the image function to display thumbnails of Lighting Instruments. (without turning off the label legend classes) Many thanks Mark
  11. I'm setting up a worksheet retrieving values from space objects. First column contains a number, second column counts certain type of space objects and the third should multiply the value of the 1st and 2nd column...should... ...but it doesn't. I've put the formula =(VALUE(A1)*VALUE(B1) in C1 but it doesn't convert the number in B1 to an actual number (B1 has the formula =COUNT). The result in C3 is the value of A1... Surely I've done something wrong but I can't figure it out what so any help would be appreciated!
  12. Hi, I've found that the function ( =GetSpaceNameForObj ) is quite handy in schedules and worksheets. However, how does a door determine the space object it "belongs" to, when there are space objects on both sides of a wall? If I have a straight wall with a space object on both sides and I insert a door into the wall, the door "chooses" one of the space objects, based on something I can't figure out. If I manually move the border of one of the space objects away from the wall, the door object "notices" that only one space object is now adjacent to the door and the (=GetSpaceNameForObj) value changes to that one. To sum up, the door object picks one of the two spaces adjacent to a wall, based on something. The end result is that some of the doors might appear as to belonging to "room 1" and some to "room 2", even though they all open to the same direction and are inserted into the same wall. I remember that years ago when drawing with ADT the door object had a non-printing marker line that one could drag over a space object in order to assign the door to that particular space to avoid this issue. Is there some similar functionality in VW?
  13. It would be awesome if you had the ability to right-click on a worksheet, placed anywhere in a drawing and have the option to create a duplicate instance of that worksheet in the resource manager/replace the selected worksheet with said duplicate. This is a workflow that would be extremely helpful when creating duplicate sheets with different worksheet variations, each designed to total different quantities/data present on that sheet alone. Instead, when duplicated such a sheet/worksheet, the original worksheet and criteria are still present and require a cumbersome resource manager duplication and replacement workflow.
  14. Thanks to the excellent and informative 2017 Design Summit and the presentation by Eric Berg on worksheets I decided to try and modify one of my very dumb worksheets into something that can query referenced files and extract data not only from a parametric objects (a hardscape in the case) and an attached record (pavement). My issue or challenge is two fold. The worksheet criteria does show the desired number objects so long as I have (record - Hardscape) in the list of criteria. If I remove this it does not show the same quantity of objects with the other criteria (record - Pavement) even though the same 17 objects have "pavement" record attached. The second part to this is that I want the worksheet "database" to pull data from both the hardscape object and the additional record "pavement" in one materials schedule. I want to not only have the available info from the hardscape but additional information in the "pavement" record to populate the worksheet as shown. I have as shown the "pavement" record and the field that I'm looking for selected however it does not fill in this information. Am I missing something or am I trying to do something that isn't there yet. I do worry that the answer to this is to move to Project Sharing, which was also a very informative presentation by Rubina Siddiqui however we aren't there just yet. As a wish item, it would be great if you are using referenced viewport as a search option that a user would be able to find the object even though it is referenced.
  15. When adding scripts to worksheets, there is a dialog box that pops up every time saying would you like to block or execute scripts in this worksheet? Question: Can we somehow block or execute this option, through a script?
  16. Hi, I wonder if anyone knows who are the best way to get the height from a solid. I'm working on a single house in a sloped terrain, their wooden posts have different heights but with a standard notched end. The Issue begins when I try to get the heights from those "solid subtractions" on the worksheets. Normally I use the "framing member tool" to get those dimensions correctly, but in this case I've to make an extra operation because the notch. I've tried to convert them in other kind of objects like "generic solid", or "extrude along path" without success, I suppose there may be a formula or something that allows me to get the dimensions I need. Thanks!
  17. Hi all. Is there a way to give worksheets on drawing rounded corners? Cris Dopher
  18. I am working on a project that requires me to extract areas from polygons and landscape areas that are embedded within symbols and display them on a worksheet. I then need to summarise the areas by symbol name and class, Is there a way to easily do this as function within a worksheet or perhaps using marionette?
  19. Hi I am having a problems with a selection that has the following: Type - Symbol Layer - Screen Class - Module This works as expected. I need to exclude a few symbols that end in x If I leave the option off completely then I get 8 objects, if I change to 'ends with' or 'contains' I get back 2 objects. If I use the 'does not end with' or 'does not contain' I get a 0. Sometimes Vectorworks is very frustrating as it feels like there is not a lot of testing going on. Can someone confirm the issue and any suggestions on a workaround? Thanks Martin
  20. Hi All, We are using worksheets to generate a schedule of areas from information associated with Space Objects. Several of the upper floors within the building are exact duplicates of lower floors so for the purposes of efficency we have used design layer viewports on the design layer associated with a particular floor that is an exact duplicate of a lower floor. However, this is causing an issue when generating schedules. For example, Floor 3 is an exact duplicate of Floor 1, therefore on Design Layer 3, I have created a design layer viewport which shows design layer 1. I would like to generate a worksheet which shows information associated with Space Objects on design layer 3. Of course all these spaces are contained within a viewport, so when I choose “set criteria” on the database header row, I have checked the dialog box to include components within both referenced and unreferenced design layer viewports. However even with these boxes checked, the objects meeting my set criteria do not include anything within the design layer viewport. I have even stripped back all the criteria parameters to only list objects “whose layer is layer 3”, and kept the "include components within both referenced and unreferenced design layer viewports” dialog boxes checked and the returned list still only contains 1 object (i.e the viewport itself). Is there a way to resolve this issue? Any help would be appreciated.
  21. I 'd like to see more input space provided for leaders and trailers when formatting cells in worksheets. See pic. 7 is just not enough. That number can be up for debate.
  22. Good afternoon Everyone, I'm having a real problem with calculating area summaries for the Property line plug in object. I've been trying a number functions additional to =('property line'.'area') in order to convert this string into a numeric value. I've tried =value, =area, =round, =num, =str2num, etc... and I can't for the life of me get it to work. Anyone had any similar problems - VW 2018 SP2 PS - I checked the VW forum records, there was a similar wishlist item, but for some reason =area function worked in that instance. Any help please? Thank you in advance!
  23. Hi, I use worksheets as a speedier way to enter data into title blocks, but sometimes my sheets exceed my screen size. It would be great to be able to freeze a column so that I can keep track of object IDs as I scroll horizontally, or freeze rows so I can keep track of my headings as I scroll vertically. Thanks,
  24. Greetings, I am generating worksheets to quickly export lighting instrument information for paperwork and labelling purposes on my shows. I'm able to get almost everything I'm looking for in the proper format except for my fixture positions. Often it is helpful to get the X or Y coordinates of a lighting fixture relative to a center point on a truss for quick placement on site as load in is happening. Currently when I request the 'x location' or y location' values in the lighting reports set-ups I get a string of very long numbers that don't quite translate to any useful real world units (see attached screen shot and file). I know there has to be a way to edit the format of these units, but I cant seem to find it. Any information or thoughts would be awesome as my current work around is to tediously use the measuring tool to find my x & y positions unit by unit...very time-consuming. Note: I've tried changing units within my document preferences and it doesn't seem to effect the worksheet output Thanks! x-position tester.vwx
  25. In Jim's Knowledge Base list of window functions for worksheets I cannot find "Overall Window Area". Is there such a function to return the elevational area of the window? For now I use the obvious workaround :WindowWidth*WindowHeight. Before using this workaround I was using the function "Area" . This returns a value for each window in my database worksheet. But the value is larger, though not much, than Width*Height. I guess Area is too simplistic for using with the 3D Window object , being normally for 2D objects. PS I am finding VWX2016 a truly rewarding experience!
