Thanks to the excellent and informative 2017 Design Summit and the presentation by Eric Berg on worksheets I decided to try and modify one of my very dumb worksheets into something that can query referenced files and extract data not only from a parametric objects (a hardscape in the case) and an attached record (pavement). My issue or challenge is two fold. The worksheet criteria does show the desired number objects so long as I have (record - Hardscape) in the list of criteria. If I remove this it does not show the same quantity of objects with the other criteria (record - Pavement) even though the same 17 objects have "pavement" record attached. The second part to this is that I want the worksheet "database" to pull data from both the hardscape object and the additional record "pavement" in one materials schedule. I want to not only have the available info from the hardscape but additional information in the "pavement" record to populate the worksheet as shown. I have as shown the "pavement" record and the field that I'm looking for selected however it does not fill in this information. Am I missing something or am I trying to do something that isn't there yet. I do worry that the answer to this is to move to Project Sharing, which was also a very informative presentation by Rubina Siddiqui however we aren't there just yet. As a wish item, it would be great if you are using referenced viewport as a search option that a user would be able to find the object even though it is referenced.

When adding scripts to worksheets, there is a dialog box that pops up every time saying would you like to block or execute scripts in this worksheet? Question: Can we somehow block or execute this option, through a script?

Hi, I wonder if anyone knows who are the best way to get the height from a solid. I'm working on a single house in a sloped terrain, their wooden posts have different heights but with a standard notched end. The Issue begins when I try to get the heights from those "solid subtractions" on the worksheets. Normally I use the "framing member tool" to get those dimensions correctly, but in this case I've to make an extra operation because the notch. I've tried to convert them in other kind of objects like "generic solid", or "extrude along path" without success, I suppose there may be a formula or something that allows me to get the dimensions I need. Thanks!

I am working on a project that requires me to extract areas from polygons and landscape areas that are embedded within symbols and display them on a worksheet. I then need to summarise the areas by symbol name and class, Is there a way to easily do this as function within a worksheet or perhaps using marionette?

Hi I am having a problems with a selection that has the following: Type - Symbol Layer - Screen Class - Module This works as expected. I need to exclude a few symbols that end in x If I leave the option off completely then I get 8 objects, if I change to 'ends with' or 'contains' I get back 2 objects. If I use the 'does not end with' or 'does not contain' I get a 0. Sometimes Vectorworks is very frustrating as it feels like there is not a lot of testing going on. Can someone confirm the issue and any suggestions on a workaround? Thanks Martin

Hi All, We are using worksheets to generate a schedule of areas from information associated with Space Objects. Several of the upper floors within the building are exact duplicates of lower floors so for the purposes of efficency we have used design layer viewports on the design layer associated with a particular floor that is an exact duplicate of a lower floor. However, this is causing an issue when generating schedules. For example, Floor 3 is an exact duplicate of Floor 1, therefore on Design Layer 3, I have created a design layer viewport which shows design layer 1. I would like to generate a worksheet which shows information associated with Space Objects on design layer 3. Of course all these spaces are contained within a viewport, so when I choose “set criteria” on the database header row, I have checked the dialog box to include components within both referenced and unreferenced design layer viewports. However even with these boxes checked, the objects meeting my set criteria do not include anything within the design layer viewport. I have even stripped back all the criteria parameters to only list objects “whose layer is layer 3”, and kept the "include components within both referenced and unreferenced design layer viewports” dialog boxes checked and the returned list still only contains 1 object (i.e the viewport itself). Is there a way to resolve this issue? Any help would be appreciated.

I 'd like to see more input space provided for leaders and trailers when formatting cells in worksheets. See pic. 7 is just not enough. That number can be up for debate.

Good afternoon Everyone, I'm having a real problem with calculating area summaries for the Property line plug in object. I've been trying a number functions additional to =('property line'.'area') in order to convert this string into a numeric value. I've tried =value, =area, =round, =num, =str2num, etc... and I can't for the life of me get it to work. Anyone had any similar problems - VW 2018 SP2 PS - I checked the VW forum records, there was a similar wishlist item, but for some reason =area function worked in that instance. Any help please? Thank you in advance!

Freeze Columns or Rows in Worksheets
Chris Busch posted a question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
Hi, I use worksheets as a speedier way to enter data into title blocks, but sometimes my sheets exceed my screen size. It would be great to be able to freeze a column so that I can keep track of object IDs as I scroll horizontally, or freeze rows so I can keep track of my headings as I scroll vertically. Thanks, -
Greetings, I am generating worksheets to quickly export lighting instrument information for paperwork and labelling purposes on my shows. I'm able to get almost everything I'm looking for in the proper format except for my fixture positions. Often it is helpful to get the X or Y coordinates of a lighting fixture relative to a center point on a truss for quick placement on site as load in is happening. Currently when I request the 'x location' or y location' values in the lighting reports set-ups I get a string of very long numbers that don't quite translate to any useful real world units (see attached screen shot and file). I know there has to be a way to edit the format of these units, but I cant seem to find it. Any information or thoughts would be awesome as my current work around is to tediously use the measuring tool to find my x & y positions unit by unit...very time-consuming. Note: I've tried changing units within my document preferences and it doesn't seem to effect the worksheet output Thanks! x-position tester.vwx

In Jim's Knowledge Base list of window functions for worksheets I cannot find "Overall Window Area". Is there such a function to return the elevational area of the window? For now I use the obvious workaround :WindowWidth*WindowHeight. Before using this workaround I was using the function "Area" . This returns a value for each window in my database worksheet. But the value is larger, though not much, than Width*Height. I guess Area is too simplistic for using with the 3D Window object , being normally for 2D objects. PS I am finding VWX2016 a truly rewarding experience!

Hello, I am developing worksheets to give me take-offs for my zoning and code area requirements for permits. I am currently doing this through assigned zones in space labels which seems to tie everything together well. However, it is taking a long time to change the settings, class settings, label setting to the space labels in each new project. Is there a way to change and save the default space label settings so that this is already done? Thanks, Rebecca

I'm just learning about Worksheets. It seems wall, door, window and slabs are all represented in the choices for possible functions, but not floors. Why is that? I've created a couple of floor objects and would like to create a worksheet with the names of the materials and sqft. How would this be done?

=IMAGE function is better, but...
ericjhberg posted a question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
As part of our running wish list requests of past, we have asked that the =IMAGE function in worksheets work better (see previous post links below, Item #4 in link 1). In v2017, the worksheet resolution feature was added to enhance this functionality, but it's only part of the solution. Upon experimenting with the new functionality, a problem still exists with the worksheet representation and 1:1 vector-based matching of the symbol in the drawing. The current version's symbols are very clear, but are a very light lineweight, appearing very faint compared to intentionally dark items in a drawing. We need a way for these visibilities to match, so that there is no mistaking the worksheet representation with the drawing representation. -
I`m trying to create a bill of materials for a table design. The idea was to create a worksheet to count all the symbols in the design (every part of the table is a symbol) and add a column to type a description for every symbol. But this doesnt seem to be possible. Is this correct? I want to add text in the blue part. If this is not possible: Probably attaching record is the way to go. Only me is told that i have to 'reload/replace' all the symbols on al the design layers to give it the record/info I attached to the symbol. Is there a way to attach the record to symbol and 'send' the information in it to all exciting symbols without replacing them? Thanks!

I have several VAA titleblocks. All have one revision entries. Have used the VAA Revise Issue Print command to create a Document Transmittal as shown below. Not all revisions are showing up in the Transmittal. Any ideas why?

I've been trying to get data from a worksheet by Python script. Here is the basic code: def FindTable(): hLayer = vs.GetParent( vs.FObject() ) vs.EnableDrawingWorksheetPalette(True, None) while hLayer != None: h = vs.FInLayer( hLayer ) while h != None: # worksheet? if vs.GetTypeN(h) == 56: rows, cols = vs.GetWSRowColumnCount(h) cellnum = vs.GetCellStr(h,1,1) vs.AlrtDialog( vs.Concat('Cell 1 ',cellnum,' Name: ',vs.GetName(h),' visible: ',vs.AreWorksheetGridLinesVisible(h),' rows=', rows, ' cols=', cols) ) h = vs.NextObj( h ) hLayer = vs.NextLayer( hLayer ) return 0 It doesn't work and returns 0 rows and columns. I guess "Worksheet container" type is not good and these APIs don't work but the cycle returns only handle with type 56 even without any 'if' condition. Maybe "Worksheet" type is what I'm looking for? types and IDs But how can I obtain it?

I have made a symbol and attached a record. In this record I have made a field where you can give a length and a drop down menu that has 4 options. Now I want to make a worksheet that gives me the sum of the length fields with the specific option selected in the drop down menu. Can anyone help me? Worksheet_&_records.vwx

I'm clearly out of my league here! I've looked around and done a little experimentation yet I am no where closer to finding a solution. I'm working on a project where I want to inventory symbols. In this worksheet I have created criteria that counts all the symbols and sums up the symbols with the same name giving me a count that is accurate. Here is the tricky part. I want to take the inventory of different symbols by name and add them together as well as multiply one particular symbol by two to give me a final total number of units. What am I missing or is this a functionality that doesn't exist?

I converted a previous file to 2017 and started editing worksheets I already had in the drawing set. After editing the worksheets, they no longer appear on the sheets, but rather show a big X through it. I can still edit the worksheet, but it never appears unless I duplicate its instance in the resource browser and place the duplicate. Even then, after editing the duplicate, it does the same thing. Help!

I have several VAA Titleblocks in a template. I also have a worksheet which shows the info from all titleblocks. As its in a template there are no revisions. However all the titleblocks show the current revision as A, even thou the list of all revisions shows as no entries. Images should hopefully show in more detail.
