1. Hi, sorry, but I cannot find out how to write my marionette object's parameters into database records (or worksheet cells), which was my reason to create them – can someone point me in the right direction? I wasn't able to find example scripts ... My objective is to create a door schedule that uses simple, 2D, self-made, non-IFC door symbols with data stamps, to be placed on 2D-drawings (draftsperson does not use walls, just lines). Most parameters will be strictly database records that never appear on the drawing, but WIDTH, WALL THICKNESS, and OPENING DIRECTION (L/R) should be 'hard-wired', i.e. taken from the plan, in order to avoid common mistakes. My first approach was to calculate opening WIDTH and wall thickness from the bounding box of the door symbol/group. This works fine, but only as long as the wall layout is strictly cartesian and the doors are not rotated or mirrored. Also, we would like to use door symbols that are larger than the opening width (including frames etc.), so we would no longer be able to calculate the width from the bounding box, wich seems to be all a worksheet can access. Or is there a way to access data from objects INSIDE a group that is listed on a worksheet? So I created a marionette object that draws the door opening based on parameters, because I expected it would be easy to access those parameters from a worksheet or to write them to an attached database record ... but I find that task surprisingly difficult. Am I missing something? So far, my marionette network, run as a wrapper, can draw a door based on two parameters OPENING WIDTH and WALL THICKNESS, and attempts to attach a pre-defined database record to that object, where it correctly fills the fields for wall thickness and opening width. However, the result is a simple group (not a PIO, so it cannot be manipulated by parameter later), and it is nested twice in otherwise empty groups, unnecessarily. If I convert the wrapper into an object node, it becomes the expected parametric plug-in-object that I can modify later, but it does not attach a database record to itself or writes its data to a record that I attach manually. What am I doing wrong? test door database.vwx this is what the door symbol plus tags should look like this is my marionette object node (so far, without tags, but okay ... if it only wrote to the database !!!
2. Hello all, I'm trying to import a CSV into my VW 2018 file via File>Import>Worsheet. Up until this point my workflow has been working fine, but I'm now trying to import the latest version of this CSV generated by Excel that now has cells that start with "E" and have a digit or two after, sometimes with a hyphen. Unfortunately, it appears that VW tries to do math on those cells and replaces them with 0e+000 and displays them as 0 if there's a hyphen (see "Worksheet View of Imported CSV.PNG) or some negative number if there isn't a hyphen What I've tried so far: - Restarting Vectorworks and my machine. Doesn't seem like the kind of problem to be resolved by this but it was worth a shot. - Using a Tab delimited worksheet instead. Same problem. - Checking that excel exported the data properly (see "Excel view before exporting CSV.PNG" and "Notepad++ view of imported CSV.PNG"). The exported file opens in other programs just fine. - Changing the cell format in the VW worksheet via Format>Cells... Doesn't help, and changing them to text just makes them display "0e+000" instead of 0. - Manually typing the data into the cells (due to the volume of cells that will eventually be involved in this, it's not a long term option but just as a test). It did work though if I first changed the cell format, but otherwise didn't work. Is there a setting somewhere for reverting all cell formats to text when importing CSVs? Do you know of another setting somewhere that might cause this or some workaround I could consider? I appreciate any help you can provide, thank you for your time! EDIT - If it helps, a friend suggested I try to recreate the problem from scratch, so I made a new csv and vwx, imported it as I had been and got the same problem.
3. I have a reeeeeeally long worksheet generated from a load of data in my drawing. I want to display the whole thing on a sheet, but because there is so much information it doesn't fit on the page, and as such I want to split the worksheet (probably a couple of times, and ideally with the headers repeating!) so that I can fit all the info on one page neatly. I also want to still be able to recalculate the worksheet. Is this possible?
4. Hi, Establishing criteria for databases is easy: Database header cell: =CompAreaByClass('Class-1') using the previous function and establishing criteria I manage to show results only form a particular layer. What I can't do is the following, I want in a normal worksheet cell to get the area of my components but specify from which layer. I know I have to use this function: Spreadsheet cell: =CompAreaByClass(t=wall,'Class-1') What do I need to add to the function above to specify the search in a particular layer? Thanks in advance, Martín
5. Ever since Title Blocks were revamped a couple years ago, I've been unable to create a simple Drawing Schedule (list of sheets) as a worksheet that's linked to my Sheet Layers / Title Blocks. It used to be as simple as pulling record fields from the Title Blocks, but that doesn't seem to work anymore, so I'm obviously missing something. Note that I DO NOT want to use Tools < Reports < Create Sheet List, as this creates an unlinked worksheet (an idea with I completely loathe). In my workflow I constantly re-name and re-number sheets throughout a project, so I need a worksheet that is always up to date without having to manually do anything. I see that it's possible to pull some data from TBBs, as seen in the screenshot of my test below: All I really need is 'Sheet Data'.'Sheet Title' but that doesn't seem to work? For my first column I just used =L in the column header which works fine to pull the sheet layer number. Here's an image of my simple goal, which I had in VW2017: @Nikolay Zhelyazkov @Pat Stanford
6. Hi, I want to multiply two database values but I can't manage to do it. I attach a screenshot of the results I get.
7. Does anyone know how to access the Key field from the Finishes database? For example, [CT-1] would be the key with the description Ceramic Tile, 4" x 4", etc. In VW we enter finishes by editing a database and entering these values, but in a finish schedule report, we only have access to a concatenation of Key and Description (which would be Floor Finishes Edit, or Space.Finish Floor and read as "[CT-1] Ceramic Tile, 4" x 4", etc." in the finish schedule), or alternatively the finish description only (which would be Static Floor Finishes, or Space.Floor Finish and read as "Ceramic Tile, 4" x 4", etc." in the finish schedule). Ideally, we would want to use the Key field in a finish schedule, not a length description.
8. Hi, I have made a worksheet that allows me to see what revision the different sheets are in. But when I get these squares in the end of the data. Is it possible to not have these in my worksheet?
9. All of a sudden my worksheet images are being cropped. Settings for Image are custom scale 1:48, Top/Plan Anyone know how to fix this?
10. Hi does anyone know how to grab the texture of a group an display it in a worksheet? I can get the texture of objects with using "Function" and "Object Texture", but even though the group is covered by a texture I can't work out how to display it in a worksheet! I have thought of using a Marionette, to put the texture name in a record and then reference that, but you can't seem to get a texture name from a Marionette either!
11. Hi, I'm creating my reports and to do so I need to sort my wall styles by name. Even though the wall style name is in the list of possibile answers, when I try to use the "starts with" or "ends with" "contains" etc the answer is always wrong, it is either zero or all of them. Am I writing things the wrong way and/or with the wrong syntax? Is there any other way to sort wall styles in the same class and in the same layer? Thank you in advance Martina
12. Hi guys, Working on my first worksheets ever...in one of my first fully 3D drawing...learning BIM...and I love it! I have few questions on the way: 1. Is there a way to retrieve 'orientation' value from energos - building envelope - window/door/roof/slab/wall...for worksheet? I found energos label information available through 'records'...and some others through 'functions'.. but haven find this one yet. 2. Can I call up net area (without window/door..any openings) of facade 'orientation' awar? Lets say facade facing south has this amount of surface area while east etc...and sum opening area for same orientation is ...square meters VW has this information somewhere on background... 3. Can be particular object in one room be aware (through space object) of which space - room it belongs. I would like to show in windows/door (and maybe other) schedule where it belongs to what room...I guess we could apply this to other situation too like what and how much room finish belongs to what space... 4. What would be the easiest and most sustainable way to get this information. I am trying to add some text description to each individual component of my styles...to provide more information than the name of particular component. Do I need to attach some records...? 5. Can I retrieve some data - value from other worksheet within one file...I mean active link to some cell with sum values and use it for calculations in other worksheet? 6. (Not worksheet related one)What is the way to force VW to keep my default lists be my first and really DEFAULT (list like Lambda value, system lists etc...). I see that they will not stick default across whole vw...with some exemption. I miss this especially in energos environment where are many different lists to fill in different systems for building and 'users' will not stick first. 7. Why energos will not use my document custom units (m², m³) but use sq m, cu m etc.... Thanks a lot for reading this long list and for any advice or help. Much appreciated.
13. You can create a database of "Data Tags" but it can't seem to filter by style, or display the style being used. Any Ideas? Optimally I want to create a database of all data tags used in a file with a certain name and call up the parameters to check their values.
14. Is there the ability to make a VW 2019 file ALL CAPS? Including databases and text styles. So far my workaround has been to manually type in CAPS, but the database header has got me stumped. I must be missing something. Any help is appreciated. Thank you
15. Working on building a worksheet where clients and users will see the composition of the slab styles that will be used in Hardscapes. I've managed to create in the attached just such a thing but have run into a little difficulty. When using a function to get the thickness of a component it is adding all of the components regardless of which slab they are a part. The attached file has our slabs and the worksheet with the cells in question. My vulnerability is Worksheets and I'm learning more every day but I really could use some help on this one. Your time and effort is greatly appreciated! Have a great weekend! Slab Styles.vwx
16. I'm working on a worksheet that has to pull data from existing parametric objects and various records attached to smart objects like borders and site models. I've been able to create a cells that pull information such as project name and project address from the Titleblock Manager yet I can't seem to crack the code on pulling the "Site Model" Cut, Fill, Net C&F Volumes. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration!
17. I have a number of rooms on my drawing, and each room has a closed polygon around it that I've named that given rooms name, so when I want to summarize all the items in each room all I have to do is create a worksheet with criteria that's pretty basic. All the items on layer 'Room items' that fall within the location of 'Room1'. This works great, but what I'm struggling with is how to call out the location name 'Room1' in the resulting search criteria cells (if that makes sense). i.e. in the attached file, I'd like cell D3.1 and D3.2 to have the name of the location the items were found in. Any thoughts?
18. I have a large convention center project with many separate areas. I want to put a hoist worksheet on my viewport. But I do to want all the hoist to show up. How do i sort the criteria for the worksheet. Do I need to create a worksheet for each area? Thanks!
19. Worksheet database headers calling valid data cause sub rows (item rows? not sure of name) to appear below the database row. eg 12.1,12.2.12.3, etc. Is there a way to collapse or hide these sub rows and show only the summation values in the header row? thanks! -B
20. I couldn't find any related topic so I started one. I'll try to explain my problem. I'm editing fields within a worksheet and I need to use the calculator (macOS) so when I clic the calculator to inpout some values, the worksheet in the VW window becomes invisible. All I can see is the giant X. (see attached image) This dramatically reduces my workflow because I have to keep clicking (or Command+tab) VW to see the values. The other option is to get out of the worksheet but then, when I return to VW I have to double clic everytime to get into the worksheet. Maybe it is a hardcoded macOS thing but it will be GREAT if I could see the worksheet while using the calculator.
21. Hi all, So I have set up custom palettes with named colors, eg. I have a "Floor" palette with different, named epoxy colors such as "Nanten 340" etc. I use these palettes and color to visually assing the space object fill. Once I've a nice color scheme, I'd like to read the info to a worksheet directly. The problem is, I can't find a suitable function. I can find image, image fill, hatch etc. but not a function or a record for a color name in a palette. I've used this succesfully with images by grabbing a flooring carpet image from a manufacturer's website, naming it correctly and importing that into VW and then assigning the image fill to a space object. Then I can just read the info to my worksheet. However, this requires the extra step of creating an image and quite often one can do with colour codes(names) alone. I can also find a way to get the RGB values of the fills but this is not helpful really. Any ideas? Is there such a function/search criteria? Thanks
22. Hi Everyone, I Have a worksheet in Vectorworks, with the CMYK values and, the code/nome of product. I need to convert this in .xml, like this below: <D>0.000000,0.117647,0.156863,0.419608</D> <N>SW 0001 - Mulberry Silk</N> I trying made this with this Script below: But I have problem with separation after 0 (.), My export script doesn't put dot (.), Decimal point, after 0. MY EXPORT PLUG IN: 000000,3584070,6858410,113725 R129Abóbora I WANT IT TO BE LIKE THIS: 0.000000,0.3584070,0.6858410,0.113725 R129Abóbora PROCEDURE ExportTXTCMYK; VAR fileName : STRING; hplan : HANDLE; vcode, vnome, vcyan, vmangen, vyellow, vblack : STRING; numRows, numColumns : INTEGER; vlin : INTEGER; vboo: BOOLEAN; BEGIN fileName := 'Suvinil_CMYK.txt'; Append(fileName); hplan := GetObject('Teste2l'); IF (hplan <> NIL) THEN GetWSRowColumnCount(hplan, numRows, numColumns); vlin := 2; REPEAT vcode := GetCellStr(hplan, vlin, 1); vnome := GetCellStr(hplan, vlin, 2); vcyan := GetCellStr(hplan, vlin, 7); vmangen := GetCellStr(hplan, vlin, 8); vyellow := GetCellStr(hplan, vlin, 9); vblack := GetCellStr(hplan, vlin, 10); WriteLn(vcyan, vmangen, vyellow, vblack, vcode, vnome); WriteLn; {WriteLn('Teste Teste');} vlin := vlin+1; UNTIL(vlin>numRows); vboo := EOF('Teste_CMYK.txt'); Close('Teste_CMYK.txt'); END; RUN (ExportTXTCMYK); Sherwin-Williams Colors.xml
23. Whatever function the 'Does not Contain' dropdown criterion applies isn't correct. It should be, in the case of a Symbol Name: (S<>'*STRING*')
24. Hi folks, Trying to make a worksheet report that includes the start and end label but it seems that the end label isnt an option. Is there another menu where I can select perameters to add? Being able to make a document that I can hand off to crew to make install is a big deal. Labels for both ends matter... *Sorry for the dodgy photos...
25. When trying to represent an image (Planting Schedule) using the =IMAGE function, it seems that the cell formatting options of Layer Scale and Custom Scale seem to not be working properly. When selected, regardless of the scale chosen, the images miniaturize and become almost invisible. Additionally, the Auto Size setting acts differently depending on what option was previously selected...sometimes scaling symbols proportionally, sometimes not...but never responding to the relative plant definition settings for different plant objects. I don't remember this being an issue in previous versions or if this is just another NEW to 2018 bug, but I am pretty certain we haven't had this problem before. Finally, IMO the whole =IMAGE function within worksheets needs to be completely rethought to yield much better results. I have made several postings to this effect on the forum before and I'm not going to re-link them here...but this should be a prioritize FIX of an existing feature.
