  1. Dear VW lovers! Q&A Is there a way to avoid for a Viewport to become 'Out of Date' when simply going to an associated Design Layer of the Viewport? Example I go to a Design Layer - either by: A) Double Click on a VP --> Edit Viewport --> Design Layer or B) via the Navigation Palette I don't change anything on the Design Layer. I only activate everything and copy it. This in order e.g. to copy paste it to a new and unrelated Design Layer to try out some things. By that time ALL VIEWPORTS associated with the Design Layer are out of Date. If I go direct and simply --> 'Duplicate the Design Layer' then of course all associated VPS are also Out of Date because they attach themselves automatically to DL duplicates. Soooo frustrating and time-consuming to re-render everything .... Is there a 'Work-Around" to this or am I the only one experiencing this? Cheers, Grethe
  2. Dear VW lovers, when rendering a Viewport and searching for the best outcome and in a time saving manner at the same time, I do Test Renders of various Viewports along side of each other and monitor the time they take to render apart from the result of the quality. Rendering a Viewport can take some time, so either I work on something else - once the VW program allows it - or I walk away. Either way - once the Viewport is not 'active' the slider on the bottom right hand side of the program won't show the time it took to render. And it cannot be retrieved. At east I haven't seen it. At times it doesn't show the render time at all when the 'Auto-Backup' pops in between. Q&A Is there a Setting or some way I can go back to a Viewport and see how long it took to render? Any insights are appreciated. Cheers, Grethe
  3. Hi everyone, I have used few of skylights symbols on roof face but it not showing up on hidden line elevation viewports. Has somebody faced a similar situation? Thanks! Hassan
  4. Recently Revit 2019 enhanced it's visibility filters by adding an "OR" option which makes this feature even more powerful than what it was. For those who don't understand Revit's visibility settings, one can control elements from being shown or not, overriding colours, etc. eg. some copies of a family (equal to vw symbols) can be visible and other copies of the same family (symbol) can be invisible. My wish would be to have a filter option for vw viewports. However, for this to work effectively (with the power found in Revit) another feature need to be added, that is, parameters. Eg. various parameters can be applied to symbols then using the filter option, certain copies of a symbol can be visible and other ones (of the same symbol) can have their colours overridden, etc. Htms, Jershaun
  5. Dear VW team, I wish it would be possible when creating a new Viewport to have the option to create a crop right there and then, for example in the shape set by the camera settings - 'Aspect Ratio 16:9'. This by choice or default. Reasons for my wish are: 1) when being on the sheet layer and I want to move a Viewport that has no crop object within, it is more difficult to snap to the corners of the VP in order to position it on my layouts 2) when trying to place a rectangle into the open Viewport Crop to have my VPs match the shape which has been created by the Aspect Ratio, it also does not snap to the corners of the VP, whilst it does snap to the 3 snaps on each side Hope this makes any sense, please let me know in case there are any questions. Happy days from Melbourne OZ. Grethe
  6. After years of creating viewports with drawn rectangles, all of a sudden on files I've been using for a long time, a green rectangle comes up in 2D crop viewports both on the sheet layer and the original design layer. Sometimes there are several stacked on the design layer. They show up as simple rectangles in the None class - I can delete them, but they come back. I've never seen these in over 17 years of using MiniCad / VW. There must be some default that got triggered. I'd like to know how to get rid of these for good. thanks, Ken
  7. Dear VW Lovers, I am creating a Viewport with Hidden Line RW Style. Unfortunately the process of rendering is not possible, meaning it not only renders indefinitely but also the VW program becomes none responsive. This probably due to a lot of detail in the drawing. As a result I have to 'Force Quit' the program and start again. After many times of trying I am now working around the issue like this: Viewport on-top of Viewport - splitting the drawing into multiple Viewports with different Design Layers visible - thereafter I overlay one Viewport on-top of the other --> Problem Any objects in a Viewport are not filled. --> Which results that you can see through all the objects on any VP. I would like to be able to create a VP that 'closes' the objects and nit the whole VP. Like when you give an object a fill through the Attributes. Only when I give the VP a fill through the Attributes palette the whole VP becomes filled and not only the objects. I have attached a screenshot of the individual Viewports and the one on the right hand side bottom holds the sandwiched Viewports. Here it shows that all objects have no fill. I would be grateful for any input and work around. Cheers, Grethe
  8. Hi, Is there a way to automatically relocate the page (printable area) to the centre of a new viewport? - without having to zoom out massively and try to spot it's current location and drag it manually. Cheers,
  9. It would be very helpful if there were some solution to interior elevation viewports dis-associating with their markers when copying to different sheet layers. It would be fine if the move had to be accomplished by going to the elevation marker itself and specifying a new sheet layer, as long as all viewport annotation items are retained. As it is, if I want to change the sheet layer for an interior elevation VP, I need to create a new marker pointing to the desired sheet, and then copy all annotation layer items and any crops to the new viewport, which is irritating and time consuming. It's pretty common that we end up needing to reorganize our elevation sheets as we move through the phases, usually as new elevations become important due to finish choices.
  10. For some reason I cannot reference external file via viewport on a design layer. "source" is greyed out. Any ideas.
  11. Hi, I'm wondering if there is a way to save a render in pixel dimensions instead of what's supported in sheet layers which are millimeters. I'd like to export a render the way you do in Cinema 4D, by telling the width and height of your rendered image in pixels... This would work if one would want to make a render that would fit snuggly to a specific 4K TV or any screen really... Hope someone can help me figuring this out. Thanks in advance.
  12. I am not sure why there is so little conversation about it. I find it very common to reuse drawings at different scales and lack of control over window & door tag size makes it very difficult. The only solution so far, from what I know, is to adjust text size in advanced settings but that in turn forces the text to be different size in every viewport which in turn when copying notes from viewport to viewport makes the whole exercise quite cumbersome.
  13. I wonder if it is possible to have class control in viewport by group just like in navigation window. I reuse viewports for different purposes and it having more global control over classes would be a time saving for sure.
  14. I have not often used dvlp refs to external file but wanted to report. In at least one file, Vwx crashes a second or two into a slvp update if a dvlp ref is out of date. Is that usual? Seems like it should refuse to start the slvp update and warn about the out of date ref? -B
  15. OK, maybe it's me. I haven't been doing much with 2017. Still working w/2016. Went to create a viewport from an object but the option is not there. When choosing "Create Viewport" it doesn't ask me about using the selected object. I can't find anywhere to reset that request. Any ideas?
  16. Hi all, When I draw a line on a 3D plane with line type set to dashed: And I create a section viewport that shows this line (hidden line render mode), I get the following result: Anyone has an idea how to display this line as a dashed line in the section viewport? EDIT: Design and Sheet layer have the same scaling set (1:10) Thank you, Bert
  17. I did post this in another area of the Community (Architecture) so apologies if this is doubling it up but I wonder if anyone can shed any light on this please? The 3D solid object is absolutely correct (does not appear to contain any errors) when viewed on its own Design Layer (in OpenGL): But when viewed in a Viewport from a Sheet Layer, it looks like this (as a Shaded Polygon): It's a bit of a long story as to how the object is produced (I can provide details if required) but it is a 3D solid object, derived from various solid additions and subtractions. This has just started happening with VW 2018. Does anyone have ideas as to what could be causing this please?
  18. So for the 2018 Vectorworks after you make a viewport and put it on a sheet, there is a defaulted drawing label in the annotation. How do I change my setting so that the drawing label does not show up with ever new viewport I make?
  19. Hi I need help. Just upgraded to 2018 and 4 viewports that are on active set of drawings are invisible. I say invisible because I can select them and I get an orange high light and also when I zoom in or out they flash on the screen and then disappear. I tried: saving and restarting , turning on all classes and layer, updating the veiwport. making sure lines were turned on etc. it is only happening with just a couple of VPs on one sheet. any help would be greatly appreciated.
  20. Through the layers button in the OIP it is possible to rearrange layers in a viewport. It would be nice if the same could be done in the organizer through visibility settings for viewports to be able to rearrange layers for multiple viewports in one go. Or select multiple viewports in detail view and the edit option allows to do the same for layers visible in all of the selected viewports. Just ran into a situation where it would have been really convenient. I had to add several additional layers through importing them from another document, the imported layers ended up near the top of the layer list in the viewports but should be near the bottom. Now I had to rearrange multiple layers in about two dozen viewports one viewport at a time. Having this option to rearrange layer order in viewports in the organizer's visibility would have saved quite a bit of time.
  21. Hello. How can I make window hinge markers visible in hidden line viewports? I want them to be visible in elevation, but they don't display in any of my viewports. I have ticked Show Interior and Exterior Hinge Markers in the object settings. The hinge marker class is also turned on in the viewports. When I look at my model in 3D wireframe mode the hinge markers are visible but as soon as I switch to hidden line mode they disappear. They disappear both on the interior and the exterior side. Same thing happens with the window preview when I try to edit the window settings. Surely there must be a way to display the hinge markers in elevations (hidden line viewports). Alternatively, is there any other render mode I can use for my viewports to get a decent line drawing elevation? Thanks
  22. First of all sorry for my rubbish title, could think what to write!! So in VW2017 when editing your viewport crop you could see (in grey) what was outside of your crop, I find this useful. I have noticed however that in VW2018 this doest seem to happen? Is it a feature that just needs to be turned back on? I have (hopefully) attached two images to show what I mean. Thanks in advance.

    Floor Hatch in TopPlan?

Hello, I have a graphic representation problem. I would like to show the plan in TopPlan view in order to see the wall detail (default at wireframe) (image 1) However, I'd also like to show the hatch of the floor finish below. (image 2) Is there anyway to achieve this in a single viewport without layering by using the background/foreground options? So far I have not found an answer. Any ideas?
  24. When you update something in the model, the viewports remain outdated, but you don't update right away, you just keep working until, at some point, you need to review the sheets with the viewports, right? Many of us have good enough machines, so it could be possible that the unused hardware resources could be used in the background to update the viewports while we work in the model?
  25. Sometimes when you finish to elaborate a rendered viewport (maybe after hours) you need to manage the object for impagination setting. Not for rescaling picture, but for exemple you need to move it into the sheet layer, aling it, cut it, eccetera.. Try to move a rendered viewport and then press cntrl+z WIN or cmd+z macOSX. The rendered viewport disappeared, and it's easy not to take it positively. The same when you need to recover the backup file. All viewport are losts. So: could be very helpful to find something for really saving the rendered viewports, even when "saving cache viewport" is enabled. Maybe is just sufficient to create automatically a png image on the final process, like when you separate a pdf file, you know? Thank you and have good work Z
