  1. Hi All, It is a constant frustration that when using viewports on sheets, which in turn show content from reference viewports in the modelspace/design layer, you cannot override the visiblity of the reference viewport. i.e. I have a section referenced in from another file. The reference viewport displays some information which is useful for my working process (room data tags or levels, say), but I want these turned off on the sheet output. Unless I have missed something, there is no way to override the visibility of classes in the sheet viewport; instead you have to turn off information in the design layer (reference) viewport. P.S. If there is already a way to do this, please someone let me know!
  2. I have a file (primary one) that works flawlessly, I created a spin off (save as) for the purpose of filing with the local dept of Buildings, all fine. One day I opened the spin off file (all settings are the same) and suddenly some elevations viewports are like X-Rays showing everything as if not opaque. To be exact north south south are showing correct and east & west are X- Rayed.
  3. Hello, Am I missing something obvious... when trying to data tag objects (with record format attached) on annotation layer of viewport with 3D view I see highlighted eligible objects absolutely off rendered ones. You can see in background all three posts and other parts of structure scaled down and forming some kind of different view... My viewport use hidden line renderer and is up to date. Any clue?
  4. Vectorworks Community! I need some help with surface hatches. I have a brick texture on some of my buildings and have amended the surface hatch so that it appears lighter in 'Hidden Line' render settings (see attached image). The problem is when I create an elevation viewport the surface hatch appears really dark in the 'hidden line' render settings (see attached image). What settings do I need to change to correct this? TIA.
  5. Hi All, Every time I try to render a section viewport VWX crashes. These viewports worked fine until sometime after upgrading to BIG SUR and probably after upgrading to macOS 11.1. These viewports render fine with hidden line, but I am trying to render them with renderworks background with hidden line foreground. I imagine this might be a RAM issue, but on my activity monitor my Ram is not spiking and I have plenty of ram available. Is there some sort of RAM govenor in VW 2021. thanks in advance for any help. -patrick iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 32 GB 1867 MHz DDR3 AMD Radeon R9 M390 2 GB
  6. Hello, I have difficulty to correctly export/print a sheet with viewports (section viewports) that have same data visualization applied. Some print correct some not. On screen everything looks OK but on exported/printed PDF something goes wrong and some viewports render without DV applied partially or completely. I have tested type of DV settings: one (DV01 - red fills) based on class function and other based on material function (DV02-black solid fill) but no difference. When no DV is applied everything works fine. It looks that viewports that dont export correctly are same for all scenarios... Any idea?
  7. Hi everyone, I have notice that there is problem which I am constantly coming across with. Quite often, the renders I do result being different once I render them in a viewport window. For example: This is a render I did on a design layer and both shape and texture look fine. But then, when I render through viewport on to a sheet layer, I end up having a different image: The image looks blurred and the texture lose its original color. I tried to scale up the viewport scale to see if at a bigger scale the resolution would change: and the image did improve in terms of sharpness but still the texture's color would not match the one I have in the design layer. Another odd mistake I've bumped in to, is this: It did happens a few time now, that when I render a solid, on the final render image comes up a shape that is not supposed to be there. In the green circle there's this black form that does not appear in the design layer as solid. In this case the green circle should result just the same as the blue one. All these little inconsistencies, often showed up in the final renders and even If I go back to try to sort them out I will not find the solution. I am wondering if this could be due to hardware performance that are not matching the software requirements or maybe some render settings that need to be edited? Once again, thanks for your help. F.
  8. I would like to be able to customise the Default Crop Object in the Viewport and have it show up customised right from when opening the Viewport, rather than having to change it manually again and again. Every time I go into a Viewport to add a Crop Object to my Design Layer by the steps below - it shows a thick green outline: Double Click on a Viewport --> Design Layer --> "ADD REFERENCE CROP OBJECT" Now I know I can place it into a CLASS. But still I would need to add the Crop Object every single time to a Class. Which if you have hundreds of Viewports is rather time consuming.
  9. If I create a cut through a viewport (I don't know the English term for this) I can select to use a drawing label. This drawing label is not how I want it to be, so every time I have to adjust it. Now I've made a symbol of the drawing label the way I wan't it to be. And place this in my viewports. But is there a way to place the drawing label automatically the way I want it to?
  10. Hey all, I have Vectorworks 2020, when I export DWG & re-import I've noticed my dimensions & drawing number info are outside the viewport and are on the sheets, as groups. Is there a way to solve this issue? Thank you Olivia
  11. Hi, I have used the LED screen tool to create several screens and I have now made a plan viewport but I don't want the green loci to appear. How do I hide the green loci? Thanks
  12. Sometimes when you finish to elaborate a rendered viewport (maybe after hours) you need to manage the object for impagination setting. Not for rescaling picture, but for exemple you need to move it into the sheet layer, aling it, cut it, eccetera.. Try to move a rendered viewport and then press cntrl+z WIN or cmd+z macOSX. The rendered viewport disappeared, and it's easy not to take it positively. The same when you need to recover the backup file. All viewport are losts. So: could be very helpful to find something for really saving the rendered viewports, even when "saving cache viewport" is enabled. Maybe is just sufficient to create automatically a png image on the final process, like when you separate a pdf file, you know? Thank you and have good work Z
  13. I recently learned how to use both the sectional viewport tool and the Helidon tool in Vectorworks. I have created a 3D model for my university project that is based in Italy, I enabled shadows for the OpenGL rendering option, I was wondering is there a have the shadows come up whilst using 'sectional viewport'? Also can is there a way to enable shadows for the Hidden Line rendering option?
  14. It would be very helpful if there were some solution to interior elevation viewports dis-associating with their markers when copying to different sheet layers. It would be fine if the move had to be accomplished by going to the elevation marker itself and specifying a new sheet layer, as long as all viewport annotation items are retained. As it is, if I want to change the sheet layer for an interior elevation VP, I need to create a new marker pointing to the desired sheet, and then copy all annotation layer items and any crops to the new viewport, which is irritating and time consuming. It's pretty common that we end up needing to reorganize our elevation sheets as we move through the phases, usually as new elevations become important due to finish choices.
  15. Dear VW Lovers, I am creating a Viewport with Hidden Line RW Style. Unfortunately the process of rendering is not possible, meaning it not only renders indefinitely but also the VW program becomes none responsive. This probably due to a lot of detail in the drawing. As a result I have to 'Force Quit' the program and start again. After many times of trying I am now working around the issue like this: Viewport on-top of Viewport - splitting the drawing into multiple Viewports with different Design Layers visible - thereafter I overlay one Viewport on-top of the other --> Problem Any objects in a Viewport are not filled. --> Which results that you can see through all the objects on any VP. I would like to be able to create a VP that 'closes' the objects and nit the whole VP. Like when you give an object a fill through the Attributes. Only when I give the VP a fill through the Attributes palette the whole VP becomes filled and not only the objects. I have attached a screenshot of the individual Viewports and the one on the right hand side bottom holds the sandwiched Viewports. Here it shows that all objects have no fill. I would be grateful for any input and work around. Cheers, Grethe
  16. Hi, I am having trouble with getting exported 3D section viewports to consistently appear cleanly as an exported DWG to match the PDF viewports. Viewports on a sheet that are plan section viewports or detail viewports often lose their crop box and the DWG line data is very unclean or does not appear at all when exported. Fills are also lost. I have attached screenshots to show how the bottom drawing is not appearing after exporting as 2D graphics in model space and re-imported into rhino. It appears as a block instance and once exploded appears a coloured surface and not cad data. The Hidden Line dialogue box is selected for foreground render. Help with this would be greatly appreciated as it makes sending clear well annotated information to consultants from 3D model in 2D very difficult.
  17. Hello Forum, I'm putting some viewports on my sheet page, I'm getting strange things happening, they look a mess. I seem to be able to get some elevations to look ok, but any kind of 3d perspective is producing bizarre results, any ideas ? tia screenshots attached of how a view in the model space, and then on the sheet page after creating a viewport
  18. Hi All, Does anybody knows what the arrows are about? It's in no class, and you don't see it while printing, but it's always visible in your viewport. Seems to be a setting or anything..
  19. Hello. How can I make window hinge markers visible in hidden line viewports? I want them to be visible in elevation, but they don't display in any of my viewports. I have ticked Show Interior and Exterior Hinge Markers in the object settings. The hinge marker class is also turned on in the viewports. When I look at my model in 3D wireframe mode the hinge markers are visible but as soon as I switch to hidden line mode they disappear. They disappear both on the interior and the exterior side. Same thing happens with the window preview when I try to edit the window settings. Surely there must be a way to display the hinge markers in elevations (hidden line viewports). Alternatively, is there any other render mode I can use for my viewports to get a decent line drawing elevation? Thanks
  20. I'm creating a viewport from a clip cube, the model has other viewports created by reference files.. As you can see in the picture the viewport only shows part of the model, even if the crop includes all the model. I've also tried to create horizontal viewport but the result is the same.
  21. First of all sorry for my rubbish title, could think what to write!! So in VW2017 when editing your viewport crop you could see (in grey) what was outside of your crop, I find this useful. I have noticed however that in VW2018 this doest seem to happen? Is it a feature that just needs to be turned back on? I have (hopefully) attached two images to show what I mean. Thanks in advance.
  22. Hello everyone, Am quite new to vectorwork. I have tried to look how to crop apartment without having to draw a poly-line on my sheet layer but i have not seen any post. may be i miss it. Is there an option that when we create our viewport, Every wall end are close at the end? Please find enclosed a PDF with 3pages. Thanks for your help and advice. Apartment.pdf
  23. Hi, I have a wall Style made of various components and classes and I assigned it a fire rating value, for example this I would like to be able to highlight every wall's fire rating and obtain something that looks like this I created a custom line style that looks like this. Then I selected the rei properties of the wall styles with data visualization I don't know how to edit attributes to make things show. Editing pen style has no result. I know I could manually draw the lines in viewport annotation but I want it to happen automatically. I also created a custom tile to edit the fill attribute of the wall but the result is not as I expected. Any advice? Thank you in advance Martina
  24. hi, this may have been covered - I have found a few similar posts but nothing exactly this problem: stairs, visibilities on VP's: defined upper floor and lower floors as seen in stair settings below, from 2nd floor DL. they are visible in the DL of both main and 2nd floor, but not the 2nd floor VP. (also visible in main floor VP). class is not the problem - all are on. should I copy the stairs to 2nd floor DL so it's duplicated? (I have done that before just to get the job done, or draw in 2d, so I can keep going, but don't think it's the idea intended with the stair tool) also, the hand rail is set to inside only but shows up both sides, that's secondary to this visibility thing and too much time spent already to figure that out.... thanks for any help!! ps is there a good video tutorial for stairs that covers stuff like this?
  25. Documenting in 3D with VW will get you pages and pages of Sections/Elevations (good!). However, if the viewport caches are not properly saved, then you end up with pages upon pages of blank pages with empty red rectangle frames (no good!). The problem here is not that we do not render our viewports often enough, it is that updated viewports are not synced properly across the various machines in Project Sharing. The end result after a few rounds of 'save and comment' is that we end up with blank viewports again across all the terminals. So, if a staff was expecting to 'fix up' something in an elevation we printed out, he would finds himself having to re-render that section/elevation in his machine, because there is no viewport cache. Unfortunately rendering a hidden-line viewport is not a quick process (will post a separate feature request for fixing this). VW has to better log which VP is the most recently rendered, regardless of when a particular terminal performs the 'save and commit' function. As an office that needs to produce drawings for issuance. This fix can't come soon enough. This fix really needs to happen NOW. (and if you were going to ask whether 'save viewport cache' is checked across all terminals. Well, obviously, yes)
