  1. I’m trying to connect the roof and wall components but it doesn’t seem to be working. As you can see from the image attached, the gabled roof sort of works as it is understanding where to offset the joists, sheathing and insulation (in relation to the wall) but the other roofs are not working. I’ve associated the walls to the roofs. I’ve tried manually offsetting components but this doesn’t seem efficient when there are many walls. Maybe I’m missing something but it’d be great to get some opinions. I essentially want the cladding, wall insulation and sheathing to run up to the roof finish. 19.07.31 PLAN TEST.vwx
  2. Wondering if anyone has a lead on any decent Vectorworks specific podcasts out there. So far I've only found the Novedge Podcast. I've got a long show with some headphone time coming up. Bonus points if it's Spotlight specific!
  3. Hi all, I'm looking for a license of Vectorworks Architect / Fundamentals (2017/18/19). Is anyone selling? Thanks, Francesco
  4. Since starting to use this program I have been having problems with the purge command. I currently am refining a .dwg I have imported into VW and having put the objects I want to keep into the correct classes, deleted the unused lines, I am now trying to purge the old classes that came in with the .dwg from the file. The file was 280Mb when I saved it just prior to purging. I started the purge command at 10.30 this morning and it is now 2.30pm. So 4 hours + is what VW thinks is appropriate to recognise the handful of unused classes etc. Before everyone says, "upload the file"; this is NOT a file related problem. This is absolutely a vectorworks problem as it has followed me through 3 full versions of VW, probably 9 Service packs, 3 New template files and every single file over 10Mb I have used. However, I know I am the only person to experience this as I only get condescending comments from tech support and there is nothing discussing purge slowness in the forums. Help?
  5. Global design and BIM software solutions provider Vectorworks, Inc. has been honored by the inaugural Land8 Social Media Awards for Landscape Architecture. Hosted by Land8: Landscape Architects Network, Vectorworks was named a Top 10 Social Media Account for Allied Organizations. 6. Attempting to reenter the workforce independently as an Interior Designer and would love to jump back into Vectorworks. Looking for a single Vectorworks license for use on a Mac; ANY release. (Used Architect in the past; Fundamentals is a consideration, too!) Please let me know if you have one to sell! I really appreciate it! Thank you, Elizabeth
  7. Hiya & Happy Pre-X-MAS season, I was wondering where the 'Vectorworks Image Gallery' has been? It was not posted on the new Vectorworks website up until about 4 weeks ago when it briefly popped up and then dissapeared again. I even posted the question to technical support but even when following it up never received any feedback. See some of the images of projects Vectorworks users posted. I'd love for this page to be up and running again if that would be possible.

  9. Hi VWX team, how do I turn off all beam directional markers while in Viewport? I inserted LEd and moving lights and created a viewport and have these directional arrows and angle markers that I want to turn off but can't seem to locate any settings for this thanks!
  10. Hello, is there any way to select "lining figures" for fonts in Vectorworks 2017? I am using a font that allows to view its numbers in "lining figures" style, but in Vectorworks 2017 I don't see that option... Can anyone help? Thanks.
  11. I am looking to purchase a license of Spotlight 2017 or 2018. Please message me if you have one to sell. Thank you.
  12. is there a shortcut way of adding (for example) 6" in dimension (could be height, for instance) to a selected group of objects currently located at different heights? I thought there surely is a way to do this, so I tried entering "+6" in the Z field, but it entered 6" for all of the selected objects, which was not what I wanted. i want them to all be shifted up 6" relative to where they were located originally..

  15. Hello, I work with VW 2017, but I'm still not really used to build complex 3d volumes. At the moment I have to model an elliptical stair, and I'm only able to build it in Rhino. I've exported a DWG file from Rhino and imported it in VW. The imported faces are not really clean (dividied in triangles) and I am also not able to make sections through it and having a nice and clean section/elevation. I guess that this has also to do that rhino works with planes and Vectorworks with solids (?). Is there a way I could model/export this stair in rhino, import it in VW, and be able to make sections through it and also have the elevations? Thanks a lot. Have a nice week.
  16. Having issues exporting an ifc file. Everything converts and exports as it should, yet it takes 45mins plus for it to process and complete. File size, after purging is 370mb approx. Stories all set up correctly, for each of the 16 stories. Set in plan/top view when exporting, 3D conversion is "low" and most settings are as per the Vectorworks "Sharing your model with IFC" Document. Really is poor, as it means that no drawing work can be done until after the export. ArchiCAD users in the office export larger buildings than this in under a min in work. Any further tips? or is this standard for VW? You can see from the attached image, there is not a lot of detail in the model. Also attached is my computer specs. Its a top of the range iMac
  17. If you thought Vectorworks was just 2D, it’s time to take a look at our 3D modeling capabilities.
  18. Hello, I am looking to export a Vectorworks 3D model to rhino. When I export using the rhino function all the layers are lost. I can individually export each individual layer and rename this and then import into rhino but this is very labour intensive. Is there an option similar to DWG export that allows layer preservation and solids to be exported.
  19. Hello!. I just changed from laptop to a 28" screen to work better on vectorworks, but now the information box when I measure is incomplete. On other words, using a line trying to measure doesnt show the whole information on the text-information box, the numbers appear half of them. Also, Arributes text: solid and opacity looks so small that I cant read them and that is happening with other palettes. Can somebody help me?. Thanks, SG
  20. We need to make more visual presentations to sell energos to our clients this software is an example http://sefaira.com/sefaira-architecture/

  22. Hi All, Seem to have a problem with scrolling on certain palette when using Windows systems. I've noticed this on: PC running Windows 7 (vwx 2017 sp3, sp4, and 2018) Laptop running Windows 10 (vwx 2017 sp3, sp4, [not tested 2018]) Also tested with multiple brands of mice. I've uploaded a short video as I don't know how to describe the palette clearly. You can see that the scroll works fine on some palettes, but fails to work on the one shown at the end.
  23. Hi All, Has anyone paired vectorworks with projectwise for project information/document/sharing management? If yes, what has been your experience? or do you have experience integrating vectorworks with aconex, asite adoddle, newforma, Sharepoint, archdesk, selfie, or similar for project management/information management/collaboration? If yes, what has been your experience? and what about blue beam integration with these? I know that blue beam is integrated into projectwise and sharepoint. I've heard that vectorworks and blue beam are working on much tighter vectorworks/Bluebeam integration for the future. It seems that this could be a benefit when interacting with project management software that is also integrated with blue beam. thanks in advance, joe
  24. Hi Jim (or anyone else), I have a general question about the future of Vectorworks development. What is Vectorworks doing (if anything) with incorporating predictive analytics, and/or rule-based intelligence, and/or machine learning technologies into the functioning of Vectorworks? Bentley, Graphisoft, and Autodesk have all introduced predictive / intelligent tools in the last few years. These are all early forays into incorporating predictive analytics and/or intelligence into their overall toolsets. What is Vectorworks doing in this regard? I ask because I have really come to enjoy using Vectorworks, but I am on the fence committing to it as my primary design and BIM-authoring tool package. I followed Vectorworks development for a long time before starting to use it and my impression is that Vectorworks 6-7 years ago was not at all competitive with Revit, AECOsim, or ArchiCAD as a BIM authoring tool and as a design tool ( back then, it had 32-bit architecture, out-dated geometry kernel, limited 3d capabilities, limited support for IFC, limited/no scripting/graphical scripting capabilities, limited ability to handle large data sets, limited visualization capabilities, no building performance analysis, more problematic file exchange performance). In the last several years, Vectorworks has made up an incredible amount of ground at an incredible pace and is now as strong as or stronger than each of the other major tools in some ways. I'm not saying that Vectorworks is "the best program" in all areas. But I think that it is a very competitive BIM authoring tool. Right now it is an incredible value. And its focus on the user needs does seem to have yielded great, easy, fast, intuitive workflows. But the near future of BIM authoring tool development seems to be in reducing time to develop designs and improving design performance validation by incorporating predictive analytics and rule-based intelligence such that designers indicate design intent (for instance by laying out a stair, a road, a sketch line, a room, a roof line, etc. with some conceptual strokes) and then the program applies a combination of a set of rules and perhaps some learning about typical user preferences in order to instantaneously complete the geometry so that the designer may then evaluate the repercussions of the particular strategy on the overall design instantaneously. Graphisoft and Bentley have both introduced tools that offer this ability. In addition to its stair tool, Graphisoft also uses predictive technology to allocate computing resources more efficiently to speed up workflow. Bentley is probably leading with regard to automating and integrating context capture, automated conversion of point cloud data to usable models, and civil infrastructure design, and is also using predictive technology to improve its help assistant (Connect Advisor). Autodesk is deploying predictive analytics with regard to sketching and performance data management, among other applications. And yet a search of the Vectorworks Community forum yielded no results for "Vectorworks"+"predictive analytics" or +"rule-based intelligence", nor did a google search. So what is Vectorworks doing with predictive analytics and rule-based intelligence and machine learning? Is it staying competitive? Or will we realize over the next several years that Vectorworks has allowed a significant gap to develop with regard to predictive analytics and rule-based intelligent tools compared to its competitors and that it then has to close that gap in order to catch up with where the industry is? Thanks in advance for your response(s). Best, Joe
