  1. When I want to place a text I type 1 (for the shortcut) and click on the screen. But instead of seeing the textbox where I clicked, it shows up 300mm lower. I can still type and all, but it's really annoying that I have to drag the text to where I want it to be. I probably adjusted a setting somewhere, but I can't figure out what it is... Anybody have an idea?
  2. Hey folks, I have a custom Title Block that has a text box for the Sheet Title. Is it possible to have this text scale based on how wide it is? See the two screenshots attached where the first labeled "Speaker Plot" fits just fine, but the second one labeled "Speaker Plot Annotated" is so wide is goes out of the bounds of my Title Block. It would be great if the text could shrink, wrap, or something. Thanks, GW
  3. Running VW 2019 SP2 on MacOS Mojave 10.14.1 Mac Pro (Late 2013) 3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5, 2 * AMD FirePro D500 3072 MB, 64GB RAM Experiencing a consistent problem when trying to edit text. After clicking on the text, moving the cursor about and editing is SO SLOW! Also editing text inside the Call Out tool is slow and artefacts are left behind by the cursor. These problems only started with the upgrade to Mojave. On my laptop, which is still running High Sierra and the same version of VW, the problems don't exist. There are also still annoying incompatibility problems when importing and exporting DWG files, line thicknesses and arrow sizes especially seem to be a problem. Currently trialing Bricscad which flies along in comparison to VW and also seems to be more compatible with DWG drawings (which is unfortunately a requisite in my industry as I often need to exchange drawings with AutoCAD users). If SP3, when it eventually comes out, doesn't solve the problems with Mojave then I think when my VW subscription runs out next autumn (fall) I shall have to move on to another CAD platform - suggestions welcome!
  4. Hello, I am wondering if there is a way to draw text over an object in 2d so it will remain attached to this object. When I visualize the object in 3d I wish to also see the text "stamped" to it. I wish to do that without having to set the heights of each piece of text separately. is it possible? thanks,
  5. Hi All, Does anybody know how to place disclaimer/copyright text inside an IFC model for exchange? I can't find any advice about this anywhere so far.. Apologies for the raft of questions I'm currently barraging the forums with. I'm actually surprised by how few threads there are regarding IFC - perhaps not many BIM users yet? Thanks, A
  6. When I insert a Scale Bar, normally the text sits above the bar, but recently it has been overlapping with the bar itself whenever the "Printed Height" is set to a value less than 5. I can't see any settings to change the position of the text. What am I missing? (VW Architect 2018, Mac OS 10.13.5)
  7. When create blocks using any of the tools my text is now double spaced. I have tried adjusting text styles, but the text menu doesn't seem to affect spacing in a block. What controls text styling inside one of the tools?
  8. it would be extremely useful to be able to control upper lower case inside the worksheet. I frequently copy paste product specific information into various schedules and it is never formatted to match my spreadsheet. The workaround is to first past into standard text box, change it then select all cut and paste into worksheet - a bit of work.
  9. Running VW 2018 SP1 on Mac. We have a few fonts (specifically DIN) that we use for our drawings that are becoming distorted when exported to PDF. The characters become squished to look tall and narrow with lots of space between each letter. This is occurring in all text including titleblocks as well as drawing labels. Changing to a system font seems to fix this (tested with Helvetica). Unfortunately our title block was really designed around the DIN font, so changing the font would require a complete redesign of our titleblock. The problem can be fixed by checking the "rasterize text" option in the export to PDF window, but this is really not ideal. The font was working perfectly for us in VW 2017 and prior. Anybody else with font issues in 2018? Any possible solutions?
  10. It would be nice if VW would get better support for OpenType features, especially for symbols and fractions that are available in fonts that sometimes cannot always be inserted with e.g. the windows character map. For example, standard fractions like 1/2, 1/4 etc. are usually not a problem but fractions like e.g. 3/16 don't show as a proper fraction in text even though the font supports such fractions in its font properties. It would be nice if VW would support OpenType fractions so that they can be used in e.g. dual units setups and/or dimensions etc. The same applies to some special characters that are in the private space of unicode fonts, they may not always show up in e.g. the windows character map utility but they do in other graphics/dtp programs that can show the full glyph/character palette. To have such a palette in VW would be quite nice as then you could make full use of such fonts.
  11. Design Layer text works as expected, but in Sheet Layer View Ports, the "space" character, (y'know, press the space bar) goes bad in OGL. It's OK in Wireframe, but in OGL, positions of characters following a "space" relocate close to beginning of the text string. Causes stacked up characters in the VP. I remember similar, but don't recall link to the space bar. Could any of you please take a look or try to recreate. It might be something local to my system Thanks! -B TextTest.vwx
  12. Surprise Surprise... upon exporting a PDF using 2018 Service Pack 2. The text is now totally Unreadable. I checked the Raster Text option and it looks like my text has been written with a crayon. Anyone else experiencing this issue and whats the fix?? Here's a screengrab of in-program view and exported PDF view. Here's the exported PDF
  13. Hello!. I just changed from laptop to a 28" screen to work better on vectorworks, but now the information box when I measure is incomplete. On other words, using a line trying to measure doesnt show the whole information on the text-information box, the numbers appear half of them. Also, Arributes text: solid and opacity looks so small that I cant read them and that is happening with other palettes. Can somebody help me?. Thanks, SG
  14. Is it possible to format text within a call out box, eg have some words in "bold red" and others in "regular black" ?
  15. Is it possible to add prefixes and/or suffixes to the text (numeric values) displayed with a Marionette object? Attached is my "Attic Ventilation Calculator," which basically lets you draw the plan shape of a ventilated attic and then, based on the NFA of ridge and soffit vents, calculates how many linear feet of each of those is required. Rather than just displaying 100.00, 2.67 and 5.33, I'd like to make it display something like this: Attic Area: 100.00 SF Minimum Ridge Vent: 2.67 LF Minimum Soffit Vent: 5.33 LF Thanks! 03-Attic Ventilation Calculator-02.vwx
  16. Is there a way to obtain screen x/y co-ordinates of 3D points or loci? I want to place text objects at the centre of 3D objects but in screen plane. I can find the objects' centre and I can place a 3D Locus there, no problem. Now I want to either place a text object in 3D or on the screen plane but where the centre point of the 3D object is. Here's a fake result: I want this to run as an executable Marionette, not as an object because I'm looking for a specific object type in the current layer to be labelled. I cannot seem to find a node that will return the screen plane co-ordinates of a 3D point. Also, there seems to be no way to move a text object to a specified location in 3D space.
  17. Hello- How do I prevent data visualization from affecting my label legends? I do not want to change the color of the container or the text in it.
  18. Hey All, So, I'm looking to retrieve some fields from a custom PIO object and then drawing them as text in the document. I've defined the parameters as dimensions so that when the units of the document changes, units of said fields in the OIP change and you case use standard entering of numbers with units. What I'm getting stuck on if formatting these values. Whether I use PParametr_name or GetRField() to obtain these values, theyre always returned as a real number. Is their either a different function that I should be using to return the values as VW displays them in the OIP (i.e. 3'4", 54mm, 7.6m, etc) or is there an inbuilt function to convert the reals to display based on the documents current primary/secondary unit info or is this a function that I am going to need to build? Cheers all, -gonda

    Text Box Tabs

How can i change the tabs from Left indent to Right indent within the ruler at the top of a text box? I have a list of items i want left aligned, and their corresponding values i want to have right aligned on the opposite side of the same text box. Is there a right or center justified tab? If not, there should be.
  20. I am working in Vectorworks 2013 on a file imported from a DWG format and I can't get the text to remain visible, regardless of what font I set the text to. If I edit a dimension or a text block, it might stay visible for a moment, but minutes later, everything disappears. I have used the "custom modification" tool to select all text, I have set the class attributes to visible colors, all classes are turned on, and I have used "Font Book" to "validate" my font files. Enclosed file: "Untitled 2" shows my drawing with the font recently set to "Helvetica", which ought to be one of the most commonly used fonts. "Untitled 3" shows the same drawing a few moments later with none of the text visible... Untitled 2.pdf Untitled 3.pdf
  21. I'm seeing text trouble again. Wonder if it's my graphic card? I ask that others test the attached vwx file, or confirm in similar file you create. The problem I see: Design layer text is misinterpreted in Sheet Layer View Port The space character (press the space bar) is misinterpreted if view is not Wireframe. Space character causes following word to move backwards two characters. Or something like that. 4 example viewports show same text with spaces (black) and without spaces (red). Same behavior in all options of compatibility/performance display preference. This file not display the problem on initial view after creation of the VP with default SLVP 72dpi. Raising the dpi manifested the problem. Changing back to 72dpi did not fix the problem. Thanks -B TextTest.vwx
  22. Start typing a TEXT, then switch to another app leaving the TEXT command open, switch back to VW and try to input any letter/number/symbol... it does not work!!! Just the RETURN key works. If you click on the VW screen, then it starts to work again. This was not happening before VW 2016. If you need to copy/paste texts often this is very annoying and time wasting. See video. Test.mov
  23. Is it possible to have different sentences / paragraphs / blocks of text in different classes within the same call out box, so that we can hide sentences / paragraphs / blocks of text on a class by class basis. Eg. I have a drawing that i want to present both to a client and to our in house workshop, their are some pricing / production notes that i dont want the client to see, but everything that the client sees id like the workshop to see. So id like the 1st sentence in the call out box to be in a class "notes - for client" and the 2nd sentence in the call out box to be in a class "notes - for workshop". When published, the client pdf / viewport would have the "notes - for workshop" class off, the workshop pdf / viewport would have both classes on. Is that possible or is there another way to achieve something similar ?
