I was wandering how to extract a specific page layout from a file, i.e. front page of a bldg permit set, as a template page. Do I need to delete all the other pages and then purge the file first or do I create a symbol and export to a favorite template folder? Please advise. Thank you CF

Hi, I have a template file on my computer, that i want to import to an "old" drawing. So I get all the classes, viewport etc from the template file to the drawing. Is this possible in one move?

Recently I was asked for guidance on how a user could update their Vectorworks template (.sta) file. Wanting to provide a technique that used the least amount of Finder navigation as possible (because the User folder on a Mac is somewhat hidden and can require some skillful navigation to reach) I came up with the steps below. I thought I would share them here on the Forum so that others may benefit from them. (They are written for a template going from version 2018 to 2019 but it should work for other versions.) 1. Run Vectorworks 2018 2. Run Vectorworks 2019 3. In Vectorworks 2018, go to Vectorworks Preferences > User Folders tab. 4. In the “User Data and Preference Folder” section, press the “Reveal in Finder” button. 5. Your “2018” User folder will appear in the Finder. 6. Go into that "2018" folder, and then into Libraries > Defaults > Templates. You should see your v2018 template there. 7. Drag your v2018 template file from its current folder and drop it onto the Vectorworks 2019 icon in your Mac's Dock to open the template file in Vectorworks 2019. 8. When asked if you want to open and convert the file and give it a new name, reply “OK” in the lower right. 9. Once your file is open in Vectorworks 2019, right away go to File > Save As Template. 10. The typical Finder “Save” window will appear and it will already be pointing at the folder (your user folder for v2019) where you want your v2019 template to be saved. 11. Give the template the name you want it to have. Then press the “Save” button in the lower right of the save dialog box. 12. Your converted template will be saved and you will be returned to your regular Vectorworks window and the file that is open there. Close that file without saving it (because you have already saved it as a template.) To ensure all of this worked as planned. a) In Vectorworks 2019, Go to File > New b) In the “Create Document” dialog box that appears, Choose “Use Document Template” c) Press on the dropdown menu and you should see your template in the list that appears. Enjoy!

Hi you all, My workplace are looking into Vectorworks, and i am the man to setup our new template. I was told, that they want to draw in 1:1 scale, so the design layers are in 1:1. Our sheet layers (viewports) is typical in 1:100 and 1:200. Everything is good, excpet of one "hopfully" small thing. We have different line types in our drawings (water, electric, gas etc.) and these have different line styles and colors. I have made different classes to these lines, so it is easy to switch around them and to edit the style. Now the problem: When i draw a line in my design layer (scale 1:1) can i see the color of the line, but the style is "gone". Well it is not gone, but I have to zoom alot in to see it. When I then switch to my sheet layer (scale 1:100) is the line just fine, with the color and style. Is there a way (a check mark, option, etc) to do so the line is looking correct both in my design layer and sheet layer? Alternativ must we draw in scale 1:100.

I'm working on building a template file for my firm, and I'm trying to improve our class organization. I've set up a custom naming scheme to use with Auto-Classing, but I'd like to have all of the classes listed in the appropriate column of the "ClassNameStds" worksheet created in the file. Is there a way to do this, or do I have to manually create every class? My goal here is to provide a wide variety of sensibly named classes so that users aren't running around creating lots of additional classes. These classes will all be preset with reasonable lineweights to minimize the amount of post-processing in our viewports (which is currently a lot). I hope that question makes sense. The help documentation and tip videos on auto-classing are ok, but they don't really address this.

Hi, I am upgrading our Vectorworks 2016 templates to 2017. When I attempt to create a new file from a template, the opening (verifying) process can take a very long time. Any clues? I am running a MacBook Pro Late 2011 macOS 12.1 with Vectorworks Architect Australia SP1. Thanks.
