  1. Vectorworks Architect 2020 is the Jury Winner for the Design Tools-Software & Digital Tools category Now in its eighth year, the Architizer A+ Awards has selected global design and BIM software provider Vectorworks, Inc. as a 2020 Architizer A+ Award winner. Notably, Vectorworks Architect 2020 is this year’s Jury Winner in the Design Tools-Software & Digital Tools category. The award-winning BIM software was previously named a finalist for the second year in a row and also won the 2019 Popular Choice Award in the Design Tools-Apps & Digital Tools category. The Architizer A+Awards highlight the most pressing issues facing architecture and design today with separate categories for architecture and products. Through relevant new categories, topical coverage and pioneering jurors, the awards celebrate industry professionals working at the forefront of today’s creative challenges. The awards emphasize the industry’s most innovative use of materials and technologies, as well as those celebrating sustainable design and new approaches to building. New categories this year included sustainable products, design hardware and BIM technology. “Being recognized as this year’s Architizer A+Award Jury Winner is an extraordinary honor, and we thank Architizer and the esteemed jury for presenting us with this prestigious award,” said Steve Johnson, vice president of product development at Vectorworks. “This achievement reinforces our dedication to provide the AEC industry with progressive BIM tools and capabilities needed for their entire design process. Vectorworks Architect 2020 is the epitome of providing our customers with best-in-class quality and performance improvements for a great user experience and this commitment will continue with future software versions.” The jury, composed of some of the world's best architects, interior designers and product designers, judged entries based on aesthetics, performance and impact. Vectorworks Architect is an award-winning BIM software solution that allows you to sketch, model and document any size project from concept to completion. From initial sketch to coordinating full-scale construction plans, Architect brings efficiency to workflows and data-rich insights to the full design process. 2. Global design and BIM software developer Vectorworks, Inc. is helping designers harness the power of the cloud with the release of its new reality capture feature, Photos to 3D Model, as well as its virtual reality feature, web view VR. The two technologies, along with the Bluebeam integration announced earlier this week, are available with the latest update to Vectorworks Cloud Services in addition to the third Service Pack (SP3) for the Vectorworks 2018 product line. Create 3D Models in a Snap from your Mobile Device The Photos to 3D Model feature is a new reality capture innovation that allows designers to create 3D models without having to measure or re-create existing 3D geometry or pay for expensive laser scanners to re-create existing conditions before modeling. Simply snap some photos on a mobile device and use the Vectorworks Nomad app to send that data directly to Vectorworks Cloud Services to process the 3D model. Communicate Designs in Groundbreaking Ways The latest update to web view Virtual Reality (VR) provides the ability to toggle shadows off and on and to control shadow direction in the web view. The ability to interactively section or isolate parts of the model allows designers more flexibility and precision to communicate their designs in groundbreaking ways. Plus, for those with access to higher-end VR gear, the web view feature now also offers support for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Google Daydream, upping the ability to use web views on five different types of headgear. “At Vectorworks, we look forward to continued innovations and improvements in solutions that will incorporate reality into the design process,” said Steve Johnson, vice president of product development at Vectorworks, Inc. “We think designers will love our new Photos to 3D Model and web view VR capabilities, as they can now easily capture and share data using cutting-edge technology that’s already in their pockets.” Other improvements in SP3 include the Cloud Services and Bluebeam Studio Integration, truss section data for Global Truss and Prolyte, a modified user interface (UI) design for Vectorworks Nomad and other fixes. This Service Pack is available as a downloadable updater for all U.S. English-based versions of Vectorworks 2018. To install, click here or select “Check for Updates” from the Vectorworks menu (Mac) or Help menu (Windows). To find out more about this release, read the tech bulletin. Contact tech@vectorworks.net with any technical questions.
  3. Today, global design and BIM software developer Vectorworks, Inc. introduces the Service Pack 2 update for Vectorworks 2017, which includes a multitude of general improvements to the software along with enhanced compatibility with Bluebeam® Revu® PDF creation, editing and markup software from Bluebeam, Inc., a leading developer of technology solutions for the architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) industries. This improved functionality will appear in the 2017 product line, specifically Vectorworks® Architect, Landmark, Spotlight and Designer. “Accessible open standards, flexible design processes and overall productivity gains are highly prioritized by the design community,” said Steve Johnson, vice president of product development at Vectorworks. “With this in mind, we teamed up with our partner and sister company within the Nemetschek Group, Bluebeam, to provide an optimized PDF export between our robust BIM software and Bluebeam Revu.” As part of the new collaboration capabilities, Vectorworks 2017 has an improved PDF export functionality that now automatically includes Vectorworks space object data and attributes. Space objects can be used as dynamic, data-rich massing model components, supporting BIM workflows as part of the 2D/3D design process with parametric modeling. These data-rich PDF files can be readily imported by Revu users, saving time and increasing accuracy by eliminating the need to enter space object data manually every time an architect issues a revised set of construction drawings. "When it comes to developing a seamless set of applications that work together, interoperability is everything," said Don Jacob, CTO at Bluebeam. "Vectorworks and Bluebeam worked together to tailor a solution for their users that streamlines data transfers, preserving valuable data in the process that Revu users can use to begin working with immediately." To learn more about the other Service Pack 2 performance improvements in Vectorworks 2017 software, read the Vectorworks Knowledgebase article. Current users can implement the Service Pack 2 updates by running the “Check for Updates command,” and those purchasing a Vectorworks 2017 license after the Service Pack 2 release should double check that it was downloaded too.
