  1. Hi all, I'm creating a whole stair manually as the stair tool won't be able to do this kind of stair. But i'm having some issues with the Handrail creation. I've tried Sweep for the curved part so i can also add height and angle, but then i don't know how to join those 2 sweeps, thinking on using Extrude along the path but i'm having a hard time adjusting. other idea was trying to create a whole 3D polyline and use the extrude along the path but at a certain point it seems it just twists the shape and doesn't look nice, but i will keep trying on this idea a bit further... Any other suggestions ? Some images Blue arrow - Sweep curve Pink arrow - extrude along the path but is giving a weird twist at the top.
  2. Good afternoon folks, Doesn't anyone know why there are these vertical lines are showing? Any how to get rid of them? Thanks folks! - Dylan
  3. Is it possible to pull in/edit stair General Geometry (i.e. Tread Depth(G), Riser Height(R), Num of Risers, Stair Width, Walk Line Length) into a worksheet? If not, why? I noticed that Total Rise can be queried and edited, but not other geometries. I have a project where I need to edit 50 stair objects to ALL be the same, albeit different than originally drafted, dimension. It would be so awesome if this was available in a worksheet, with the ability to change them all from 4'-3" to 4'-0". Otherwise, the only way to change these all is to go through them individually and change the width because they all have different total rises, and riser heights.
  4. Hello, I am trying to create a L shaped stair with only one step after the "middle" landing but VW needs to have 2 risers as a minimum. Any idea on how to do it? is it possible? I now that I could model the steps as solids but then I would have to draw markers and I will lose all other options that you usually have with a stair. Thank you for your help!
  5. Hey all, I really hope this is where this post belongs and I also hope I am not asking the same questions as someone else and I just wasn't able to find it. Anyway, how much can I edit stair railings? In this instance, I am needing my stair railing to change from having guardrails to not having guardrails because the stairs go from being open to being in between two walls. The image I added to this post shows where the guard rails need to stop. Is that possible to do or not so much? Would I just need to make my railings from scratch? Same with adding a center railing. That one does need to go all the way up the stairs though. Thanks in advance!
  6. Hi, I don't know if anyone can help, my stairs are coming up as under my floor and the Z is 0, and I have a floor, I don't know where I'm going wrong.
  7. Am I missing something or is it true you can't do a two step stair without custom modeling? Overall height: 1' A step at 6" A step at 1' Is this possible?
  8. hi, this may have been covered - I have found a few similar posts but nothing exactly this problem: stairs, visibilities on VP's: defined upper floor and lower floors as seen in stair settings below, from 2nd floor DL. they are visible in the DL of both main and 2nd floor, but not the 2nd floor VP. (also visible in main floor VP). class is not the problem - all are on. should I copy the stairs to 2nd floor DL so it's duplicated? (I have done that before just to get the job done, or draw in 2d, so I can keep going, but don't think it's the idea intended with the stair tool) also, the hand rail is set to inside only but shows up both sides, that's secondary to this visibility thing and too much time spent already to figure that out.... thanks for any help!! ps is there a good video tutorial for stairs that covers stuff like this?
  9. Looking for some help. There are a number of situations where I am creating a stair and the number of risers on the first flight will be less than 3 (sometimes 0) Example: In a domestic situation where the stair starts on a winder - this is currently impossible to achieve as the winder requires (in vectorworks) to be preceded by at least three risers. I have tried to many times and never managed to get round this problem. First picture shows what it should look like (manually drawn - and constructed / passed regulations etc.) and the others shows the best I can achieve from vectorworks. Any suggestions??

Hi I am creating a short set of outdoor concrete steps and when I look at it in plan it looks as it should, but when I switch to 3d theres a n extra step at the bottom of the stair? Attached are a couple of images, plan view and right view. The steps should end at the edge of the wall as shown in plan, but when viewed in 3D they go past the wall? Is there a setting Im missing? Thank you for any help
  11. When I assign a class to a stairs in order to show it differently in a sheet layer viewport, it apparently is of no use because there are 20 or so objects in the stairs each of which has a different class assignment. Impossible to use. Also, changing the characteristics of a 3d object by means of editing its class works for line types and line weights, but if you change the fill to "None" the object is still opaque. Trying to get foreground objects to appear as unfilled dotted outlines in an elevation. It seems like this would be a common use of class attributes overrides. v2017
  12. Hi I am trying to build a stair with a landing at the top and wondering if there is a way to do this with the stair tool? I have seen some posts about a custom stair tool but I can't seem to find it 2018? Thanks for the help
  13. Does anybody have issue with creating a sectional viewport of U shape stair on to sheet? Please see attached image It looks good in 3d perspective or in plan but when a sectional viewport is created is starting to mess up .
  14. Attached is an image of a staircase with landings and a retaining wall on one side. The lower staircase was easy, just 2 sloping contours and the adjacent pads. The upper part required a lot more work because of the landings and the sloping terrain adjacent. Could these sloping contours be automatically generated as a feature added to the stairs? Alternatively, could you give the contour the operability of the 3D polygon so i can snap it to the edges of the stairs with the correct Z height (ie not have to set z height in the OIP)?

This file contains a simple stair object to show that Marionette can be a solution to an over-complicated problem. Marionette will allow you to generate your own plug-in objects to give the user as much or as little control over the object as you would like. I hope to expand upon this object in the future to show more opportunities for control over a stair object - both simple and complicated.
