  1. I have a file on spotlight in which, being used to the workings of AutoCAD, I simply set up a 24x36 rectangle and drafted in 1/4" scale in that, since this was my first time using this program. Now that I want to export, I can't seem to get it within the sheet layer. Is there a quick and easy way to get the sheet layer to contain what I drew, or do I have to alter a lot? Also, is there an easy way to change my title block, drawn just in a design layer instead of sheet layer, to the regular format of a title block? If it helps, I have attached the file in question, in vectorworks 2017 format. Beauty_and_the_Beast_Plot.vwx
  2. I have a file that I have drafted in 1/4" scale that I'd like to scale up to 1:1, since it would be easier to manipulate. Is there an easy way to do this without messing up the dimensions of my drawing? Beauty_and_the_Beast_Plot.vwx
  3. I am unfamiliar with this forum and how it works, but I have a persistent issue for which I am seeking help. For the past 3 versions of VW (2012, 2015 and now 2017, running on Mac OSX, now ver. 10.11.6), my Spotlight toolbox shows a red "X" where the Curtain Object tool ought to be, which gives me an error message. Any idea what I need to do to recover that tool? Here is the message I get: An error occurred while opening the plug-in. Make sure that the plugin is located in the "Plug-ins" folder located in the User Data and Preferences Folder. See Vectorworks Preferences - User Folders tab. I don't know what I am supposed to do in the Preferences - User Folders tab, and I cannot locate the plugin in any of the "Plug-ins" folders. Other plug-ins seem to be fine. Any help is appreciated!
  4. I'm using VW2016 Spotlight Site Protection Network Ver. (Japanese:サイトプロテクションネットワーク版) on new released MacBook Pro w/o TouchBar. It is so heavy behavior, pan, input text, and all movement does not move as I want. I Installed SP6, but not changed there symptom. I'm think of problem of Hardware, but browsing website etc other behavior is not late. Have I that solution? Using Laptop : MacBook Pro 2016(without TouchBar) OS Version : OS X Sierra(10.12.2) VW Version : 2016 SP6 Japanese Edition Memory and SSD is normal. Using Windows 10 in BootCamp. Running VW2016 in Macintosh. Thanks.
  5. I'm not sure if this has come up before, but I would love to see a change to the way fixtures with zoom ranges are handled. Right now we can only input the x and y beam and field spreads for a fixture, but we cannot designate a smallest zoom size and largest zoom size. I cannot tell Vectorworks that my Source Four 25-50 zoom fixture has a minimum field size of 25 degrees and a max of 50, then when I place the fixture choose where in that zoom range I want the beam size set. Ideally VW would also do the basic math on the Candlepower and be able to do the math on the inverse square calculations of what happens to beam intensity when you flood. Thoughts?
  6. I wish.... I wish that in Spotlight's label legend tools there was a way to set a preference to have a line drawn from one field to another. This would allow for a line to connect from an instrument to the instrument's container(s). This would then replicate the way containers were associated with instruments in hand drafting, and add greater clarity to the drawing. As things are now, I create a layer below where the instruments are drawn, and manually draw a line from the unit number to the dimmer, address, or circuit bubble. A mindless and relatively easily programmed task. (Or so it seems.)
  7. I wish.... I wish the ganging tool would allow the ganging of addresses, just as it allows the ganging of Chanels, Dimmers, and Circuits.
  8. I was wondering if there could be a carpet tool for the events section. The tool could have the following items. 1) Stock Carpet Widths & Roll Sizes. 2) Places Data inside object after created. Meaning it will label itself like the Hoist Tool. 3) Can select carpet type from tool 4) Tracks Rolls of Carpet use and Costs 5) Lets you select room and automatically carpets with data inputted. 6) Creates Carpet Report 7) Carpet Layout Tool Would allow you to easily carpet and event where you may use different colors of carpet or material in the event! I know I could use this everyday in the Event world. I would imagine it could be used in the architectural word as well.
  9. I'll try to explain what I am looking to do. I am trying to create a worksheet that will count my pipe and drape cross pipe, uprights, and drape counts, which after a bit of googling I can do on a basic level. However, I have two sizes of pipe and drape, 12' and 16' high uprights. I also have multiple types of drape, different colours of supervel and velour. I am using the material, material colour, and note records in the Softgoods PIO Object Info to track the info. The note record has either a 12' or 16' value. Where I am running in to an issue is when I try to limit the database row in the worksheet to only target subdivisions. Ex, I only want a drape panel count of 12' Black Velour. But if I try to set multiple criteria I do not get the result I want. If I try the following criteria on the database row: Record>Soft Goods>is present Field Value>Note>=12' Field Value>Material Type>=Velour Field Value>Material Color>=Black instead of looking at only the objects that are all three, it returns all of the 12', all of the velour, and all of the Black pipe and drape. Am I missing something in how Criteria works? I'd like to be able to have multiple criteria that allows me to really narrow down on a selection. Thanks

  11. I am using the cable tool to plan the cable layout for an upcoming show. After I insert the first cable and set its properties it doubles as the default setting for every other cable I insert using that tool. Is there a way to change that default after the first instance has been inserted? Basically, so that once I have done all my 4Pin data, I can set a new default to 5Pin...
  12. Need to be able to display specific cable breaks and have them update the cable parts. When trying to do this manually, and change part one to a specific length, part 2 will not automatically recalculate to achieve the same desired overall length. Also, is there a way to format how the text displays on the cable tools?
  13. Hey al, Is there a way to use a spreadsheet of X,Y,Z position data to populate the appropriate X,Y,Z fields of a symbol, fixture, or any object? For example, a designer i work with gave me an MA3D file created in 3D but i need to turn it into appropriate lighting plot paperwork. I have X,Y,Z data for every finxture and want to use an easy copy and paste to position all fixtures correctly in the drawing. I have tried using a lightwright data exchange, report functionality listing the X,Y,Z data of each fixture, and tried to create records with no luck. any time i populate the fileds in a spreadsheet, the changes do not get reflected on the fixtures. Any tips? Thanks!
  14. According to the Lightwright manual it will exchange X, Y, Z coordinates with VW but they can not be edited. It would be really useful if they could be edited. It would then be possible to create lights in Lightwright and have them appear close to their final positions in VW as opposed to stacking on top of each other when the two programs exchange data.
  15. Hello, I am trying to render a 3D model in Vectorworks Spotlight, with graphics. I have added these graphics using import Image file (They are JPGS from PNG. It all looks fine, but when I render the model, some of the graphics are not changed, but some are completely enlarged, misplaced, or missing. Can anyone tell me why does this happen and how to fix this? Thank you
  16. I am having really odd issues with the Hoist tool in 2017 SP2. The object info palette shows correct distance from drawing origin but the Hoist data displayed on the plot itself is not even close. Is this a Known issue?
  17. Just got off the phone with V'Works support. V'Works 2017 Spotlight. I had to call and ask where the location of the entertainment lighting instruments is. It's under Object Styles. I asked if I can move that to somewhere easier for my users, and they said that wouldn't be recommended. Best you can do is make a copy of it into your user libraries. Can I request that the location be moved to the root Libraries and perhaps be renamed to "Objects-Entertainment-Lighting Instruments"? I know that you can just use the drop-down menu when you select the instrument insertion tool, but I've got several users in the company here that just plain don't want to do that. They want to do things from the Resource Browser, and they're not going to be happy when I tell them that they have to remember that the location is in Object Styles.
  18. Does anyone know if it is possible to define/customize the cable options presented in the OIP? Im sure everyone can agree the connector types are not exhaustive..
  19. Been running into a few problems with symbols in 2017 I've never seen before: When I layer a normal 2D symbol on top of a lighting instrument, then zoom out, the stacking order gets messed up and the lighting instrument is on top. Double clicking a 2D symbol in the resource manager brings up the symbol selection tool, yet when I click to place the symbol, I get the error "A symbol needs to be selected." It can still be dragged from the resource manager to be placed, but this is inconvenient. I never encountered this issue in previous versions. Any help/insight much appreciated!
  20. Hi I made clay paky alpha800qwo symbol, and I made a new file and tried to use that symbol. When I use that symbol, The symbol was recognized as a 2D / 3D symbol and I convert it to a light instrument , Instrument Tpye becomes blank. What's the problem? I fill in blank with ' AlphspotQWO800 32ch' and export LC, LC cognize it correctly.
  21. Got very excited when i saw a dropdown for "Fixture Mode" in the Obj Info palette but then noticed its only for vision integration. Would be great if we were able to custom create fixture modes that get attached to a fixture type, and have a place for this dropdown to be integrated into report worksheets, or into they instrumentation key. Instead of mickey-mousing a user field or some other field to hold this data.
  22. Hi @ all, I think this problem is not knew, but I cant find any good solution for it. I have several booms on sidestage with 4-5 fixtures on top of each other. Booms and fixtures are drawn in 3D. Now I want to find the best position for their corresponding label legends in Top/Plan view. Of course drawing them in 3D and switching to Top/Plan wil have all legends overlapping and you can't read anything. So my idea is to make legends for low-, low mid-, top mid- top- and highside position, and distribute each label more to the side. But how do I deal with the fixture symbol ? If I'll leave it at its positon everything is fine unless there are different fixture types. If I make separate labels for each fixture types this will result in a lot of labels and any hand-drawn 2D plan would be quicker. How do you generally deal with this ?
  23. Can you rotate the projectors to be on there side and still use the all the video screen tools? I have an installation for an event and all the projectors are being placed on there side to project large portrait projections. How can I show this in Vectorworks using the current tools set?
  24. I have noticed that the Align/Distribute Items tool in Spotlight is broken. This is still true as of the most recent Service Pack. Has anyone else seen this?
  25. When I updated to SP 1, I was hoping to see that the Y axis of the 3D rotate function of the Spotlight Instrument had been fixed to allow a fixture to hang on its side. At the moment, the Y rotate angle actually rotates the component parts of the symbol about the Z axis which serves the purpose of rotating only the base once an instrument is focussed. Please will you restore it's original functionality which worked so well and was logical. It's current state is illogical and means that firstly, my old drawings do not read correctly in the newest version of the software, secondly, some of the uses of Vectorworks are now not achievable and lastly, for other tasks it requires a laborious workaround to fix. Could I suggest that you put back the Y functionality and add a Z functionality to do what you have inadvertently done to the Y axis. It would be good to hear from a Spotlight engineer to know why this was changed and when a fix is due. There have been so many welcome advances with the software in recent years but this seems to be such a retrograde step. @JimW could you help to pass this on for a response. Many thanks Mark
