  1. I wish you could reshape distributed loads with the reshape tool rather than trying to edit the path which won't allow you to see the underlying objects to snap your adjustments to.
  2. 1. With the UI change in the numbering window, you can click on Channel and set the start and increment, etc. in the top right box. Then you can select another field (like Unit #) and set those attributes. It'd be great if I could do multi directional numbering as well (i.e - channels left to right and unit numbers right to left). I'd love to be able to set that on a per field basis. 2. We should be able to drag and resort the field. Who uses Left Shutter Depth on a regular basis? At the very least, we should be able to select what is displayed so we can save sets!
  3. Hello! I'm having trouble using the new spotlight numbering tool in VW 2019. I can't seem to get fixtures to take the channel info. I've attached a video of the problem. Any ideas? Rx VWX Problem.mov
  4. Hi VWX team, how do I turn off all beam directional markers while in Viewport? I inserted LEd and moving lights and created a viewport and have these directional arrows and angle markers that I want to turn off but can't seem to locate any settings for this thanks!
  5. I'm working in Designer, and when switching to the Spotlight workspace, the tool set palette is not visible. When I turn it on, it shows as an empty gray rectangle. I can move it around, but not access any tools or dock it. When I switch to other workspaces, I do not have the same problem - the tool sets are there, and working. Is this something I can fix myself? Best, Palle
  6. Hi all Apologies if what I am seeing is something obvious I am just missing. Instead of a BLACK stroke according to the Attributes palette, a portion of a soft goods group has a RED stroke. I've tried changing it to a different color and back again with no affect. Appreciate the input! I've attached a photo.
  7. Would love to see some improvements to Seating Section tool - namely : Consolidate it with the Seating Layout tool (having two similar tools is confusing) Ability to add cross aisles. Currently can limit the number of rows - but that's pretty useless most of the time. I'd like to see an option like "Add a Xmm / ' aisle every X rows" or similar Make the focus point more obvious. Currently only visible (and barely) when in an interactive scaling mode. This must be a killer for beginners Ability to show loci only instead of actual symbol (on the design layer - not within the tool). It is PAINFULLY slow sometimes with big seating layouts Make the "Always redraw section" check box work. Doesn't seem to do anything at the moment. Constantly redraws no matter what Fix the numerous slow downs and odd behaviours. Just 30 minutes of messing about / experimenting with the tool throws up all sorts of odd stuff. Currently waiting for the dialogue box to refresh whilst I type (use actual symbols is unticked). Seems the more you use it in one session - the slower it gets? (just a guess). Been staring at the attached screen shot for about 2 mins? It won't let me update the seat spacing / row space (as they both default to 0 and 0 - the preview window takes forever to re-draw. Does it need to refresh after every key press? Just typing 500 can take 30 seconds waiting for it to update between 5, 0 and 0. Remember settings fro previous session. Generally - if you have lots of seating sections in one document - they would have the same seat / row spacing and maybe limits. These need resetting each time you start a new seating section If after deleting some seats manually (after selecting "Edit Seating") - you click on "update" - the seats are replaced with out warning 😡. Very frustrating. (Update only available if "automatically redraw section" is not selected. Also happens when you re-shape boundary without warning. Surely Edit Seats should be used as a last resort) No point using "Edit Seating" as even a minor change results in your edits being lost. After using "Clip surface" whilst editing the boundary - you are asked if "you want to automatically fill the new area with seats". Slightly misleading if you have clipped the existing poly. Should the message say "re-populate the new area?" or similar? After "Edit Seating" you are asked if you want to re-shape the bounding box. The new bounding box doesn't always help though - doesn't seem to be accurate. Ie - delete some seats manually whilst in "Edit Seating" mode, let it update the bounding box, then click on update (or for some reason "Always Redraw Section" twice) - and the deleted seats re appear. Add ability to create a centre aisle. Currently, if you clip surface through the entire seating section - you lose half the seats. You need to finish the poly just short so that you are not dividing the whole seating section into two. Bit of a work around and not obvious. Personally - a straight forward (ie - not curved) seating layout is much quicker using duplicate array etc and not bothering with this tool. I only use it for curved layouts. Not worth the effort otherwise. Andrew
  8. Wishing for VW or some other coder to develop (Landru design?). I would love to have a "theater lineset" tool which can do the following: Layout in plan and section a theater's lineset and lineset schedule via manual entry of lineset info Linesets would be numbered and classed and be in 3d, with the correct length (adjustable) and the correct height (adjustable). Scenic items could be assigned to specific linesets and they would then be positioned according to trim height All information can be controlled via a worksheet (lineset schedule) which updates in both directions, ie. if I move scenery A from lineset 12 to 14, I can make the change in the worksheet and it will update the scenery, and vice versa. Other things like including weight calcs, scenery in /out positions etc. also desired.
  9. Now the question is, how do I use my custom bumper in the speaker array tool? RCF HDL-30A.vwx
  10. Hello all .... I realize this is something I should have figured out a long time ago -- however .... The Spotlight tools are chocolate-- ie - insert a projector, speaker, array, etc .. The Spotlight libraries are peanut butter - ie. L'acoustics, Panasonic, etc ... How to I make a Reese's ?? (insert the library symbol into the plugin tool?) thanks e
  11. We are a Vectorworks based firm working with a local community college on their infrastructure upgrades. They sent us their new light plot but it will not open on my software since it was saved in a student version. In the past these opened with a watermark. Now I cannot even view the file. How do we handle this? Dan McLaughlin Scenic Solutions
  12. Hey all, While importing VWX truss symbols from the subscription library, the symbol shows up as a solid in 3D (see attached). Does anyone know how to make them show up like a normal truss. Like when using the Spotlight Truss Tool Plugin?
  13. Hello All I am a user of Vectorworks Spotlight for many years. I have recently invested in vision. Why of why is there not a standard set of 3D figures that are not legacy that can be used to pre vis a band setup. Why is there not a basic set of guitars amps and bass amps and keyboards etc. There are a few bit and bobs but nothing acceptable. Currently being laughed at by WYSIWYG and Capture users as these are basic necessities of a 3D entertainment drawing package and visualiser. Please sort this as its a bit problem. Richard
  14. I believe this happened in SP1 also. I have a drawing, with two manually selected hoists, just for example: I run the number hoists tool: Use these settings: Upon clicking OK, I receive this: (You can clearly see the two original hoists are still selected)
  15. Hi, I hope all of this makes sense - I've been trying to troubleshoot this for hours. I have created a 3D model of a set. I use section viewports (that I have configured to be elevations) to create my front views of the walls. I am to the point where I am setting up my sheet layers and dimensioning. All has been fine - for the most part. I'm not sure at when in the workflow, but something changed. All of the elevations were on the sheet, and I had dimensioned everything. I went to work on the next sheet of elevations, and went back to the previous sheet to double check something, once I got back to that sheet, one of the viewports was missing a wall - dimensions where there as annotations, and a few stray shapes that I couldn't identify. Thinking this was strange, I go back to the original sheet (plan view) to see if I had unintentionally moved the viewport reference (section line?) and it's not there. Nowhere to be found - whether selecting all, or using the custom selection tool. I didn't save, quit the program and reopened to see if that would fix it. No go. Quit again and shut down the computer (not restart), then rebooted, opened VW - still had missing info. Every other viewport and its reference is fine. I tried to create a new viewport and nothing. The problem isn't resolved. Has anyone run into this before? Thanks.
  16. It's possible to see the total weight on a hanging position in the Object Info palette. It would be very useful to be able to use this info in the Position Summary or in the Instrument Summary, so we can quickly check if the weight exceed the rig limit. And also an option to include in the calculation the weight of the Hanging Position itself or not.
  17. I am looking to purchase a license of Spotlight 2017 or 2018. Please message me if you have one to sell. Thank you.
  18. Here's an oddity I'm running across. I have a file I'm working on for some client renders, there is a mix of spotlight fixtures and regular visualisation light objects. If I cut a section out from the drawing, in this case a front stage view, using the clip cube it technically works, but in rendering it will not visualise the spotlight fixtures, their lights aren't rendered. It's not a huge deal, I'm just missing a couple of gobo breakups on the furniture and my front wash. My workaround has been to just use Vis Light objects for the stage wash, but is this normal behaviour? I haven't tested this yet in a fresh blank file to see if it's something file specific. I normally don't bother with section cuts but decided to do one this time around and then ran in to this little annoyance. Thoughts?
  19. This is something I would love to see, which would make my life insanely easier and hopefully others. Right now Spotlight fixture objects can only handle a single set of beam/field and candlepower figures, but why can't we put the beam, field, and candlepower values in for a low and high end of a zoom range and then have a slider to move along between them in the OIP? Practically every moving light has a zoom parameter, and conventional zooms and fresnels all have posted values for the narrow and wide extremes. As it is, if I adjust the zoom factor of a fixture but want to take advantage of the light calculators I need to manually do the inverse square math on the candlepower values to find the correct number. Surely the object info pallete can handle this level of math and make dealing with zoom fixtures much easier. Thoughts?
  20. Someone on the team probably can make a festoon / bistro lighting tool/plugin. Step 1: draw a polyline Step 2: choose how much vertical swag to use OR the difference between the start and end heights Step 3: choose what symbol to use for the bulbs Step 4: choose the interval at which bulbs appear. Maybe default to every 2ft?

  23. The vast majority of the time when i create a seating section, and then edit the section later, the bounding box is some how transposed from the drawn seating section. Its mostly an annoyance, but functionally it seems that if I type anything into the Object pallet the value is reflected on the seats in the perspective of the now misplaced bounding box. Making things such as setting angles very difficult, and basically a guessing game. Anyone else seeing this?
  24. When create blocks using any of the tools my text is now double spaced. I have tried adjusting text styles, but the text menu doesn't seem to affect spacing in a block. What controls text styling inside one of the tools?
  25. In an effort to continuously improve our redraw speed when working on large 300-600 fixture lighting plots, I am exploring different methods of building our hybrid lighting symbols. - I am curious if there as a hardware advantage drawing 2D elements with polylines versus polygon objects. I often find myself waiting for the drawing to redraw when going between design layers and sheet layers. The time lost there adds up. Thanks.
