  1. Yearly thread to please add the Spotlight menu items & toolsets to the Designer workspace. Or create an 'Everything' workspace. This doesn't require any engineering since users can create it themselves (but shouldn't have to). 2. Beforehand I think this is great and something we've asked for some time, so Thanks! On the other hand, I haven't found any information that specially shows how it works so here are some questions: - I am guessing that the "Channel" field has to be the Unit number, can this be changed? - I've tried to use the numbering tool to get the DMX address populated but haven't found it, is the patch window the only way to get it done? If so, this is something to reconsider... - I've seen the Vision data mapping has vanished and for what I've tried it uses the same fields as the patch window, is this correct? Is this editable?
  3. I'm was thrilled to see the schematic views as a new feature as the model viewports were next to useless when you needed accuracy in a model. (I actually opted to maintain a 3D file and a 2D file as it saved me time). I cannot stress how much I would like this feature to work for theatrical designers. I spent the better part of the morning trying to make this work and I stumbled upon the fact that I needed to create the lighting position perpendicular to the plan and then rotate it up. If I built this as I normally would in 3D (with a boom created as a boom would normally stand) I can't use label legends: Obviously there is a workaround (create the position and rotate it) as I have done here, but this seems like an oversight. Is there a way to display the "2D Component View" AND the view of the schematic so we can control this behavior more accurately? It seems to me that I'm nearly ALWAYS going to want to display the 2D component view in "top" where my label legends will be legible but I might want to LOOK AT THE SCHEMATIC from the FRONT/LEFT/RIGHT etc... Is there any more insight I can get into this workflow? It is an obvious improvement but I'm going to be forced to rotate all my 3D components 90 degrees to make it work.
  4. I would really like to be able to use a renderworks camera as a source feed on video screen tools. I have clients that change minds on scenic/staging all the time and its quite an ordeal to have to capture and export an image file, then re import it as a texture then apply it to a screen. When a client changes camera locations, scenic etc, I just want to be able to move the camera and have it update my video screens. Is that possible?
  5. I use the wall tool to draw a good portion of my theatre architecture and scenic elements (how I was taught). When I export to dwg for some collaborators, all of the walls are not exported as 3D objects and are only visible in plan view. Is there something I can do to make them show up?
  6. hi , im trying to add the spacer to the universal corner block , the auto insert tool will just snap one to the middle of the truss , and not 4 spacers on each side. by duplicating the symbol then editing 2d and 3d component, i created my own symbol for a corner block with spacers. Im just failing to fix the the auto insertion parameters as the 6 mentioned points are very difficult to understand, does anyone have an idea about this?
  7. Hi All, Does anybody knows what the arrows are about? It's in no class, and you don't see it while printing, but it's always visible in your viewport. Seems to be a setting or anything..
  8. Hi, I'm looking for a Vectorworks Spotlight (Mac) licenses. Thanks!
  9. In reference to this post it would be nice to get some upgrades in the new numbering tool: - Ability to reorder the fields. I personally think it should affected by the lighting device parameters you see in the preference menu, if not at least being able to reorder within the tool. Also this way you can see everything that is checked at a glance. - Highlight and check mark seem rather confusing: To check mark any field a double click has to happen (and after the first click the field usually scroll down, so if you had the last field selected you will have to scroll down again and give it the second click) only one click would be wonderful
  10. I've run into this issue when ganging fixtures. I create the "gang" but the label has the two fields offset from each other -- in my case, the circuit name is higher than the circuit number. I've ganged fixtures many times but have never had this happen before. I've tried rebooting, restarting and all the usual tests. i created a new drawing and it's still happening. The two-fer object properties are as follows: Style: >un-styled> Corner: Arc Gang by: Circuit Field Vale Is there some kind of a symbol/group layout that can be modified to correct this? Thanks. VW 2019 sp4
  11. I've never done any scripting before, only used scripts that others have created. I would like to know if it is possible to create a script that does the following things to all "Lighting Devices" in a file: - Copy rotation data - Enable "Set 3D Orientation" if it is not already enabled - Enable "Z Rotation" if it is not already enabled - Paste rotation data into "Z Rotation" field If anyone could help me out with this I would truly appreciate it! Thanks!
  12. Global design and BIM software provider Vectorworks, Inc. will solidify its place at the forefront of the entertainment industry with the pending acquisition of connectCAD, a systems design solution geared for the audiovisual (AV) industry. Since 2009, connectCAD has been offered as a plug-in for Vectorworks software, offering the ability for designing broadcast, AV, lighting and IT networks or any other type of connected system. connectCAD ensures that as-built drawings and cable lists exactly match the completed cabling architecture, avoiding expensive or even impossible reworking with other methods. connectCAD is used worldwide to design and coordinate complex AV installations such as exhibitions, casinos, conferences, churches, staging events and theme parks, as well as broadcast systems, IT and telecom infrastructure. Additionally, anyone involved in design, installation and connection of electrical and electronic systems can benefit from the powerful combination of connectCAD and Vectorworks. “connectCAD has been a great partner product for Vectorworks over the years and has gradually built a product for Vectorworks that creates a powerful, yet intuitive interface for generating audiovisual system designs and reports,” said Vectorworks CEO Dr. Biplab Sarkar. “In response to the growing audio needs for our customers, connectCAD was an obvious choice because it’s a high-quality product that naturally extends our AV capabilities for our users.” As part of the pending acquisition, connectCAD Founder, Managing Director and Programmer for the tools, Conrad Preen will be committing to a minimum of two years with Vectorworks to continue the development of connectCAD. “Part of the Vectorworks family, connectCAD is poised to enter a new era and will be able to realize its true potential,” said Preen. “We’re looking forward to introducing many new features in the coming years with the expertise of Vectorworks engineers fine-tuning our existing features. As in human enterprise, teamwork is the key to great results, and I can think of no better team than Vectorworks.” Part of the acquisition, the first priority will be to convert all Vectorscript tools and commands to C++ using Vectorworks SDK, thus enhancing the performance of the connectCAD plug-in. Once completed, connectCAD will be offered as an add-on module for Vectorworks Spotlight or Designer in English and German. Completion of the first phase will be during the Vectorworks 2020 version cycle. Beginning June 12 through June 14, connectCAD will be on display in Orlando, FL at InfoComm 2019, which is deemed the audiovisual and integrated experience event. To learn more about the pending acquisition and technology, visit the Vectorworks booth #7672. To purchase or learn more about connectCAD, visit connectcad.com.
  13. Hello, I'm attempting to show a couple of different color options to a client for a stage set and am running into an issue where my intensity and color settings are being overwritten on all lights when my drawing renders regardless of whether or not "Use emitter" is selected and affected on individual fixtures prior to rendering. I feel like I'm missing something simple as it is happening across multiple layers and fixtures in the drawing. When I render (custom renderworks) my fixtures all reset to whatever emitter settings are set in the Lighting options. Is there a way to disable that? Thanks in advance
  14. I'm trying to make a Z value data tag for hanging position, I don't see it listed so I have tried "Z Location" and "RelDimZ" without any success. Is there any workaround or if it is not listed there is no way of having it?
  15. Hi, I'm a German Spotlight User and found in the Architecture Version the Grid Tool (in German "Raster Werkzeug"). It's pretty useful for a lot of Situation like big Festival Sheets or Axes in Venues etc. Could you please add this tool to the Spotlight Version as well. Thanks in advance
  16. Does anybody know if there is a way to create a specific ganging object? I want my ganging tool to only show a fixture's Circuit Name not Circuit Name & Circuit Number? OR if I have to stay with Name & Number, can I tell it to only display the Name? Thanks.
  17. I have been working on a document in 2018 and suddenly the Color of my lighting symbols has disappeared. I do not have Black and White Only checked and I also do not have use layer color in document preferences checked. I do have 2 viewports used in the show. Are there any other settings that could be causing this? spotlight question example.pdf spotlight b:w question example.pdf
  18. Hello Really excited to see new Manfrotto stand object library's been waiting forever for these. However they are all wrong as the leg spacing is not 120deg around the stand but lop sided. Please correct as it makes these library's useless as they are not right.
  19. It would be cool if you could actually place hoists and braceworks connections on the same layer as your truss/position that you use for a rotated DLVP position. You currently cannot do this, you get the hybrid symbol error if you try to rotate it (this is solely caused by hoists and rigging connections, which is stupid because if you uncheck show screen plane/planer view it seems like it should be a non-issue since it's treated as 3D only anyway) In addition to this it would be rad if the hoists could auto adjust their chain and orientation to always be vertical, or show the toe-in/toe-out of the chain. In a similar way to how a lighting device can track it's focus point through the DLVP.
  20. Looking for generic symbols for things like C-Clamps, Mega Claws and Clamps, Side Arms, tail downs, extenders, tube extenders, Safer Side Arms, etc. Does this exist already? I've checked the Service Select Portal and don't see anything there...
  21. Festoon / Bistro Light tool... This probably wouldn't be too much of a stretch from the Rope and Stanchion tool.
  22. Option for Vision to take dmx info from Vectorworks’ Address field in “universe/address” format. Currently, Vision only takes Universe and U Address information, and there is no option to move data from the Address field into the Universe and U Address fields without the use of Lightwright.
  23. Cable Swag Tool to show cable swags from point to point and/or dropping off truss.
  24. Spotlight Truss count tool... We have a Lighting Label Legend plugin to summarize Lighting Object names and qtys. Can we have a plugin to summarize Straight Truss and motor size, length, and qty?
  25. GDTF importer for Vision Symbols... maybe the physical form can be based on the 3D info from the Vectorworks file and the attributes can be defined by GDTF?
