  1. With the introduction of Schematic Views, utilizing CPMV and DLVPs as means to communicate details in a 3D and 2D environment have become obsolete. This is a pretty big bummer as that's really the best way to efficiently create vertical lighting positions. Users who have updated to and adopted 2020 really have no recourse. Yes, DLVPs still function as means of getting the 3D representation of the position into its proper location. However, the fixtures will not point accurately at any focus point they have been assigned, regardless of manipulating the rotation along its cardinal axis'. That ability has been removed from the software as a means to further support the MVR functionality. I understand thats its work in progress, as with most new features of VW, but this really needs to take priority over any introduction of a new features in future releases or service pack updates until the functionality of this feature has been ironed out. So, I'm asking for Vectorworks to reinstate the full functionality DLVPs until the Schematic View workflow is improved and truly is a valid replacement. I've been beating my head against this for about a week and came up with a small wishlist of features for Schematic Views that I feel would greatly improve the workflow: - Allow 2D label legends to translate to the Schematic View. - Allow user the option to create a "backwards" Schematic View by drawing elements in a 2D form first and then create the Schematic View. Ideally, the result would be a "2D/3D symbol" that would be a footprint of the position in Top/Plan View and would show actual geometry when viewed in any of the 3D views. - Navigate away from using Hidden Line rendering to create the Schematic View. This utilizes GPU resources over CPU and can lead to longer, more taxing manipulation of the model. Many thanks to those involved.
  2. Could be usefull to have a tool that allow to build a strip LED with some parameters like brand of LED, kind of LED (white, multichip etc...), size of the strip, distance between LEDs and soo on
  3. Hi Everyone, I am having an issue where my sheet layer shows a plot which is coloured based on the Universe of the fixtures, which works really well. However when i publish that sheet layer it looses the colours for the fixture and shows them all as grey. The data visualisation key that it produces in the annotation, does however output with the correct colours. Any thoughts on a simple setting i might be missing? Worth mentioning its 2020.
  4. I have not been able to edit a label legend in Spotlight 2020. I can add a field, but when I click Edit 2D layout, I get an error message: Script Error - Error on Lin-1: 2418_2421 - Index outside array limits. Any ideas on this?
  5. I'm trying to create a worksheet that auto calculates spare lighting fixtures. So far I have it setup a database row that shows symbol image, instrument type, count per fixture. I want to add a column that calculates spares. I want the spare fixture count to be 15% of the total count. I would also like this number rounded up to the nearest whole number. For example, if I have 5 fixtures, instead of the column saying .75, I want it to say 1. I have tried using the Round command. I've been trying =(Round(C3*.15)+1). In my head that should get me a minimum of 1. What always seems to happen is the formula is calculated on the total of all the fixture below, instead of each row. See Image. My next question is, how do I set the row height for the cells in 3.*. I know I can select the cells and change the height, but I want to change the default height for those cells, so anytime I add a fixture to the drawing it gets added at the correct height? Thanks.
  6. Hey there. So I'm working in VW2019, SP2 and I've had this crazy glitch happen. It seems now that while I've built all my lights correctly (I did this years ago and they've always worked fine before), with Light Info Records, etc. now when I click on the data tab in the OIP the Light Info Record isn't listed there anymore. Is that something that I'm just noticing now, or has that always been the case? When I look at a symbol that isn't a light the data tab shows the Light Info Record. Am I crazy? Have they just always folded themselves into the Lighting Instrument Data on the Shape tab?
  7. It's been years since I did this... but my ellips shutter cuts aren't rendering to match the wireframe beams. The cuts show, but nowhere near where they should. I've since adjusted them in rendering mode, but how does this @%^$%^ happen?
  8. Hi all I have being experiencing a great deal of crashes with VWX 2020. On its own, the programme seems fine but whenever I open an existing show file from an earlier version it tends to have a major stroke and then crashes. The crashes have occurred with plans created/modified in vwx2019. The plans are all "simple" geometry and are all venue based drawings with some being Autocad, Vectorworks, PDF hybrids etc. The crash seems to specifically happen when I open the earlier version file in 2020. The program will run fine for 5-30mins and then the screen will crash and the fans go into overdrive. At this point, a force re-start is the only option. I was teaching a class and the computer crashed at least 3 times in the space of 20mins. At the moment, vwx 2020 is unusable for the mixtures of venue files I possess. I have not narrowed it down to a particular file but have found it seems to have across any file edited/created in vwx2019. I have a great deal of work on an upcoming tour with older version plans and need to do an updated lighting plan for each. I will have to revert to 2019 to play it safe. I am on a macbook pro 2011 c/w SSD & 16 RAM. I am currently running High Sierra. I will upgrade to Mojave but not really wanting till December. Too much work on etc. If Mojave is required to cure this ill, I will take the chance! I am on the latest version of VWX 2020 SP1 Does anyone have any pointers or would this be classified as a bug report? Eamon
  9. Tonight I discovered that my 3D Label legends were not appearing on my elevations. I attempted to select the data I wanted to appear in the Label Legend Manager, but after clicking done and exiting out of the LL Manager my data was still not showing up. I would then re-enter the LL Manager, I would select the data I wanted to"Use in 3D", and then edit the layout. However, each time the data would not appear on a Design layer or Sheet Layer after I exit the editing mode. Is anyone else having this problem?

  12. I've run into this issue when ganging fixtures. I create the "gang" but the label has the two fields offset from each other -- in my case, the circuit name is higher than the circuit number. I've ganged fixtures many times but have never had this happen before. I've tried rebooting, restarting and all the usual tests. i created a new drawing and it's still happening. The two-fer object properties are as follows: Style: >un-styled> Corner: Arc Gang by: Circuit Field Vale Is there some kind of a symbol/group layout that can be modified to correct this? Thanks. VW 2019 sp4
  13. Beforehand I think this is great and something we've asked for some time, so Thanks! On the other hand, I haven't found any information that specially shows how it works so here are some questions: - I am guessing that the "Channel" field has to be the Unit number, can this be changed? - I've tried to use the numbering tool to get the DMX address populated but haven't found it, is the patch window the only way to get it done? If so, this is something to reconsider... - I've seen the Vision data mapping has vanished and for what I've tried it uses the same fields as the patch window, is this correct? Is this editable?
  14. I would really like to be able to use a renderworks camera as a source feed on video screen tools. I have clients that change minds on scenic/staging all the time and its quite an ordeal to have to capture and export an image file, then re import it as a texture then apply it to a screen. When a client changes camera locations, scenic etc, I just want to be able to move the camera and have it update my video screens. Is that possible?
  15. I use the wall tool to draw a good portion of my theatre architecture and scenic elements (how I was taught). When I export to dwg for some collaborators, all of the walls are not exported as 3D objects and are only visible in plan view. Is there something I can do to make them show up?
  16. hi , im trying to add the spacer to the universal corner block , the auto insert tool will just snap one to the middle of the truss , and not 4 spacers on each side. by duplicating the symbol then editing 2d and 3d component, i created my own symbol for a corner block with spacers. Im just failing to fix the the auto insertion parameters as the 6 mentioned points are very difficult to understand, does anyone have an idea about this?
  17. Hi All, Does anybody knows what the arrows are about? It's in no class, and you don't see it while printing, but it's always visible in your viewport. Seems to be a setting or anything..
  18. Hi, I'm looking for a Vectorworks Spotlight (Mac) licenses. Thanks!
  19. In reference to this post it would be nice to get some upgrades in the new numbering tool: - Ability to reorder the fields. I personally think it should affected by the lighting device parameters you see in the preference menu, if not at least being able to reorder within the tool. Also this way you can see everything that is checked at a glance. - Highlight and check mark seem rather confusing: To check mark any field a double click has to happen (and after the first click the field usually scroll down, so if you had the last field selected you will have to scroll down again and give it the second click) only one click would be wonderful
  20. I've never done any scripting before, only used scripts that others have created. I would like to know if it is possible to create a script that does the following things to all "Lighting Devices" in a file: - Copy rotation data - Enable "Set 3D Orientation" if it is not already enabled - Enable "Z Rotation" if it is not already enabled - Paste rotation data into "Z Rotation" field If anyone could help me out with this I would truly appreciate it! Thanks!

Global design and BIM software provider Vectorworks, Inc. will solidify its place at the forefront of the entertainment industry with the pending acquisition of connectCAD, a systems design solution geared for the audiovisual (AV) industry. Since 2009, connectCAD has been offered as a plug-in for Vectorworks software, offering the ability for designing broadcast, AV, lighting and IT networks or any other type of connected system. connectCAD ensures that as-built drawings and cable lists exactly match the completed cabling architecture, avoiding expensive or even impossible reworking with other methods. connectCAD is used worldwide to design and coordinate complex AV installations such as exhibitions, casinos, conferences, churches, staging events and theme parks, as well as broadcast systems, IT and telecom infrastructure. Additionally, anyone involved in design, installation and connection of electrical and electronic systems can benefit from the powerful combination of connectCAD and Vectorworks. “connectCAD has been a great partner product for Vectorworks over the years and has gradually built a product for Vectorworks that creates a powerful, yet intuitive interface for generating audiovisual system designs and reports,” said Vectorworks CEO Dr. Biplab Sarkar. “In response to the growing audio needs for our customers, connectCAD was an obvious choice because it’s a high-quality product that naturally extends our AV capabilities for our users.” As part of the pending acquisition, connectCAD Founder, Managing Director and Programmer for the tools, Conrad Preen will be committing to a minimum of two years with Vectorworks to continue the development of connectCAD. “Part of the Vectorworks family, connectCAD is poised to enter a new era and will be able to realize its true potential,” said Preen. “We’re looking forward to introducing many new features in the coming years with the expertise of Vectorworks engineers fine-tuning our existing features. As in human enterprise, teamwork is the key to great results, and I can think of no better team than Vectorworks.” Part of the acquisition, the first priority will be to convert all Vectorscript tools and commands to C++ using Vectorworks SDK, thus enhancing the performance of the connectCAD plug-in. Once completed, connectCAD will be offered as an add-on module for Vectorworks Spotlight or Designer in English and German. Completion of the first phase will be during the Vectorworks 2020 version cycle. Beginning June 12 through June 14, connectCAD will be on display in Orlando, FL at InfoComm 2019, which is deemed the audiovisual and integrated experience event. To learn more about the pending acquisition and technology, visit the Vectorworks booth #7672. To purchase or learn more about connectCAD, visit connectcad.com.
  22. Hello, I'm attempting to show a couple of different color options to a client for a stage set and am running into an issue where my intensity and color settings are being overwritten on all lights when my drawing renders regardless of whether or not "Use emitter" is selected and affected on individual fixtures prior to rendering. I feel like I'm missing something simple as it is happening across multiple layers and fixtures in the drawing. When I render (custom renderworks) my fixtures all reset to whatever emitter settings are set in the Lighting options. Is there a way to disable that? Thanks in advance
  23. I'm trying to make a Z value data tag for hanging position, I don't see it listed so I have tried "Z Location" and "RelDimZ" without any success. Is there any workaround or if it is not listed there is no way of having it?
  24. GDTF importer for Vision Symbols... maybe the physical form can be based on the 3D info from the Vectorworks file and the attributes can be defined by GDTF?
  25. I have just upgraded from VW 2015 to VW 2017, and now having a problem with the accessory insertion tool. First I place a lighting unit on the plot using the instrument insertion tool. Select the instrument insertion tool. Select a non-static accessory (such as a scroller) via the pull-down menu (note in the displayed window, that the data record indicates the device type as an "Accessory" Click on the front of the unit to place the scroller, click to set the angle of the scroll, and click on the unit to connect the unit to the instrument. The scroller will be placed on the plot successfully, but if you look in the object info, you will note that the device type is Static Accessory rather than simply Accessory. As a workaround, I can manually change the device type, but the is obviously less than ideal. UPDATE - After talking to Tech Support at VectorWorks, this seems to be a bug. It has been referred to engineering.
