  1. I have about ten classes each of which includes a number of hexagons (ranging from one to about forty, and created using the Regular Polygon tool). VW does not retain Regular Polygon as a criteria object though so how do I count them in Worksheet? If it matters all hexagons are the same size 346m² A script would only be useful if the answer is written back to the worksheet, or another worksheet. I only use VW's workshet function so only looking for worksheet solutions, I've not had fun or success using the DB thing - and basically don't trust it not to profoundly f&^% up my drawings.
  2. Just this morning drawing simple 2D polygons and lines - short lines just vanish when when I finish the line - yes all classes are on. Lines they keep vanishing until the line length is about 35 metres., also small polygons with say 7 vertices are reshaping themselves to a smaller poly of 3 vertices. This occurs with snaps on or off. Units metres, precision 0.001 Anyone seen this? No changes to system recently. Windows 10 Home 64bit, not networked. VW2012 update4
  3. Another one that seems obvious to me. The polyline tool is great for getting really specific lines and calculations. However, coming from other applications I've found getting used to how it functions to be a little slower than I'd like. Especially if I just want to keep drawing without switching modes. Would be great to have a more traditional pen tool as an option. Simply drawing, point by point (like the polygon tool), but having the ability to add bezier handles. Similar to Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects and many many other creative applications' pen tools. Seems to me it's a tool that functions somewhere between the freehand and the polyline tool. A lot of reasons this would be useful... Here's a roundup of just a few times this exact feature (or one very similar) has been requested:

Creates a pattern of parallel polys along the path of an input poly depending on widths and classes set by the user. Erzeugt ein Muster paralleler Polys entlang eines Polys in Abhängigkeit der vom Nutzer festgelegten Breiten und Klassen. By ComputerWorks GmbH. Compatibility: Vectorworks 2020 and higher.
  5. Hi all, I'm sure this must be basic functionality and I'm just missing something, but is there a way of making Polygon and/or Polyline vertices (or nodes, points, whatever you like to call them!) permanently visible while editing? I know the points all show up if you double click the line, which is great, but if you then want to position a new line or object to certain points on the previous line, and as such you activate a new tool, the points on the original line all disappear. In my particular case I am trying to add coordinate stakes to a boundary line for a contractor to set out on site. The boundary line is over 100m long with a lot of points/vertices/nodes, and it would make the task a lot simpler if I could see those points in a permanently 'on' manner while I add stakes to each one. Before you ask, yes I have snaps turned on, but they also snap to midpoints which I don't need to mark, and it would still be easier to just be able to see the points in the first place. Hopefully there's a simple solution... Running VW 2017, SP5 on a Mac Retina 5k, 27 inch, 2017 running masOS High Sierra
  6. In an effort to continuously improve our redraw speed when working on large 300-600 fixture lighting plots, I am exploring different methods of building our hybrid lighting symbols. - I am curious if there as a hardware advantage drawing 2D elements with polylines versus polygon objects. I often find myself waiting for the drawing to redraw when going between design layers and sheet layers. The time lost there adds up. Thanks.
  7. Hello, I have a problem with the node 'convert to polygon' I' m using this node in a network and it works just fine but when I make a marionette object from my network the node doesn't work anymore. I've uploaded a little example with only the objects you need to see the problem. Is there a way to work around this problem? Benny convert to polygon.vwx
  8. Hi, is there anything similar to multipart polygon? I want to import a shapefile containing a couple hundred polygons with records attached. I can custom select by different records, but than i want to make the similar ones "work" as one polygon for later work. Making a group is not an option, because after exporting the group that forgets the attached records. Does anyone have any solution for this or it is not coded in VW at all to work with multipart polygons?! Thanks!
  9. hello I've been dealing with this issue for a long time ...I thought it was not of a big deal until now that I have to repeat this process everytime I need to quantify the length of floor panels. The plans were made in an old Vectorworks version and in the most primitive way, so the easiest way I found was to draw polygons arround the walls and then select all of them and see in the OIP the total sum of the polygons lengths. The problem comes when the length is of a straight line (meaning I couldnt form a polygon) then it will not be added to the perimeter sum. So ok, lets select all the polygons and find the total sum of their lengths, do the same with the lines and then just add both values... Now I see that the OIP will not give you the sum of all the lines lengths while selected ....thats a must.. no?
  10. Is there a limit to the number of vertices you can have in a polyline or polygon? I am working with some imported GIS data and some areas that should be polygons are split up into polylines with no more than 12000 vertices. If I try to use the connect/combine tool to join them it crashes Vectorworks every time. Is there anything I can do about this?
  11. Hello: I am attempting to create a curved built-in bookshelf using extrude along path. I created the profile as a 2d polygon and am using a polyline converted to a 3d polygon in order to gain a z parameter, as the path. This is a fairly simple path and profile, yet it takes upwards of 30 minutes to generate, all the while vectorworks is frozen and I get a spinning beach ball. Luckily I am able to use other applications on my computer as normal, but vectorworks is reported as "application not responding" until the process is complete. Once the EAP operation is complete, the file is still very laggy in both 2d and 3d views. In an attempt to make the file less laggy, I converted the EAP object to a group of 3d polygons and simplified them by 1 inch, but this results in very weird texture rendering unlike the EAP solid. This does almost completely eliminate the lag associated with the EAP In the file attached, the path and profile objects are on the Extrude Primitives layer, the extrude test layer contains the completed extrude, and the polygons layer contains the grouped 3d polygons generated from converting the EAP object. EDIT: I know that my hardware specs are not the greatest, but vectorworks runs fine except for this issue as long as I don't try and do crazy OpenGL or renderworks fanciness. EDIT 2: I realized I forgot to upload the file and attach it, and in the process I realized that it is 236Mb. This would potentially explain why it is so laggy, but why would an EAP object, 2 polygons and the extracted group of polygons be over 200Mb. My other file that I was originally trying this in is only around 155Mb and contains loads more geometry and PIOs. 12. I would like to know the largest orthogonal rectangle to fit within any handled polygon or polyline. Within that one might fit a textblock or other. Could I script this using VectorScript?
  13. def rename(h): vs.AlrtDialog(h) return () vs.ForEachObject(rename, "((L='Layer') & (SEL=TRUE))") Hi, sorry in advance if I'm not using the correct terms. I'm new to Vectorworks and I want to write a script which get the properties of selected objects. At the moment I have a Handle object which does show me the attributes of the selected object. I want to use the data to populate other objects in the same layer.
  14. Hello, all. Looking at the VectorScript function reference I see no functions that could tell whether a given polygon/polyline is self-intersecting. The only function that is told that it is the VS:OffsetPoly. But I don't want to see if a polygon/polyline is self intersecting as a side effect of an operation that actively acts on the selected object but just a read-only operation whether it is self-intersecting or not. Any suggestions are welcome.
  15. Hi, I'm a interior designer and want to achieve Polygonal Architectural walls in my current retail project. I have never used Vectorworks but I heard it would be the best software for the job. I have sketches of what I want to achieve but now it's time to build and I would like to create a 3D concept and export 2D plans for the woodwork. Can someone point out to me where to start... Thanks, FX
  16. Forum, It's been a while since my last posts, hopefully you're all well! In among other things I'm tutoring a series of very creative Post-Graduate students with theatrical backgrounds. One of them came to me with an idea that currently I can't solve, perhaps some of you out there might. Without a serious amount of tracing we wish to create a structure that looks like this: ... however has the outlines of this: I've tried several things here - Trace Bitmap Commands Layered Photoshop Files in Broken Layers Exporting Paths created in Photoshop to Illustrator to then save as .dwg and open in VW. (Self intersecting geometry during extrusion got me but it's the closest yet!) Now I'm asking for input. How would you approach this and create this series of extrusions? I've included reference files and a .zip containing the PSD with individual layers available. Any input welcome! Stay safe otherwise all. - J Stacked_Layers_Examples_-_PSD_and_JPGs.zip
