  1. I'm exploring the viability of using Marionette to create bespoke cabinets. They will vary in H, W, D, number of bays and bay components. I intend to use the script to generate several outputs; a simplified 3D model suitable for Hidden Line rendering used to illustrate the configuration; a detailed 3D model with panel gaps, filleted edges and individually orientate-able woodgrain textures suited to presentation Final Quality renderings; and (eventually) cut-lists derived solely from the input parameters. - But I'll start with just the simplified 3D cabinet first. I'm at the early stages of still figuring out what Marionette is capable of and how to achieve things that seem possible that will enable the above. As a result of seeing the impressive post by @DomCthe "parametric metal framework cabinet" I decided learning Python would be necessary, but it's slow going so I've returned to experimenting with Marionette nodes as-they-are, especially because of subsequent enhancements to Marionette's repertoire. Currently I'm stuck trying to make Extruded 2D polygons spawn at the desired location. I'm testing using the top panel of a long TV cabinet. I created the top panel's profile and prescribed it's location by using four point locations. The network achieves this up until the 2D polygon gets created, but when the Extrude node goes to work, it gets put on the opposite side of the Y axis. How do I control this? Or is there a better way of crafting and positioning these panels? (Note that many panels will have at least one mitred end so I can't use rectangles and standard extrude nodes). I'm now thinking about lofting between two profiles for each panel, but this is getting rather busy... Does this interest either you @Marissa Farrellor @DomC? Any help or guidance on offer would be great. Thanks! Marionette Sto - Dev 03.vwx
  2. Hi During my last Marionette-Project, I produced some simple geometry nodes. Which maybe can be useful to can make geometrical constructions instead of mathematical (trigonometry) calculations. The Nodes: "Perpendicular from Point to Line", "Parallel from Line through Point", "Circle-Circle Intersection", "Line-Circle Intersection", "Line-Line Intersection", "2 Circle Middleline" and some more. Also the more Complicated Nodes "Circle tangent to 2 Circle", "Point or Circle tangent to 3 Circles" Take a look here: CircularFilling.vwx Circlular growing.vwx Geometry Nodes and PCC CCC.vwx
  3. Hi all I am having difficulties using the debug tool in Marionette. The connection lines turn red as they are supposed to when I hover, but nothing happens when I click. I am on a PC running version 2017 architecture SP 3 I hope someone out there can either help me or tell m if I am alone on this one Cheers Andreas
  4. Learn how to design using all of the capabilities of coding without having to become a programmer during our AIA-accredited webinar, “An Introduction to Graphical Scripting” tomorrow at 2PM ET. In 60 minutes, Sarah Barrett, Assoc. AIA, architect product specialist at Vectorworks, Inc., will explore the basics of using graphical scripting to enable an iterative design process and automate tasks using the integrated Marionette tool in Vectorworks software. You can sign up for the webinar here: http://vector.works/go/2421 After watching, you'll receive a certificate of completion via email, and if you registered with your AIA member number, your name is automatically submitted for credit. P.S. If you can’t make the live airing, register anyway and we’ll send you a link to the recording once it’s available on demand.
  5. Thanks again to Dom C for the great workshop upon Marionette , that I attended in march. Now , weeks later , trying to pick up the thread, trying to redo an exercise builiding a network for an easy table. Desperate, that I messed it up, and I don`t unerstand ,why debugging doesn`t work any more, as soon as the offset data are connected to the move node?! And I don`t get any result. Maybe someone can s.m.s. (save my soul). Friendly regards Bernd L. 2017_04_23_Table_Marionette_Workshop_Test.vwx
  6. I've created a pretty nifty 3D projection cone object using marionette. I can change the throw distance, lens shift, etc... However after I turned the marionette network into a marionette object every time I change one of my parameters everything gets screwy. If I double click into the object and edit the network, then exit everything looks normal again. Anyone have any thoughts? File attached. . . Marionette Proj Playground.vwx
  7. I am trying to calculate the area of a 2D polygon in square feet, independent of whatever the document units are. The "area" node only returns a value in the document units. Is there a way to specify the units independent of the document settings?
  8. Empty group is created when I use the convert to 3d polys node. I've attached the vwx file. Can anyone help? Marionette Proj Playground.vwx
  9. I'm trying to figure out how to duplicate on object (symbol) along a 3D polygon with a marionette node. The command Edit>Duplicate Along Path works great but not in a custom marionette script. Any ideas?
  10. My first day programming in Marionette is going great, but I'm having trouble finding some tools. Is it possible to fillet the corner of a rectangle in marionette? How about creating a rounded rectangle?
  11. The parametric wall tool that is default to VW is nice but I want to know if its possible to take it a step further. I am trying to find a way of distributing objects or extruding custom profiles horizontally and vertically across the surface of a wall efficiently to create things such as flashings or cladding. Ideally being able to click and drag a wall like you would with the wall tool but automatically generate and space specified extrusions or recesses across its surface. On one of my current projects I am using the curtain wall tool to create a second wall on the outside of my exterior walls that represents the 4x8 reveal panels and it works quite well. See attached screenshot. Theoretically the curtain wall tool performs most of the functions I want to do, but it is restrictive. I need to create two windows at each opening to cut the curtain wall as I cannot find any way to combine or link multiple walls so one window cuts through both (Is this possible?). The curtain wall tools frame and panel options are limited and do not allow for the use of custom profiles (custom profiles are a big deal when I need to model something after a specific product). So what I am wondering is wether there already exists or if its possible to create a function or tool (Maybe with marionette?) that functions similar to the curtain wall tool but is more customizable and less restrictive. Another Issue I have yet to find a good solution to is the inability to fillet or chamfer the edges of plug-in objects like doors and windows (or say the edges of the frames and panels of the curtain walls above) without losing their parametric abilities. I do a lot of rendering and having soft edges is important for realistic lighting. I have a feeling all this and more could be possible with the marionette tool, but I have yet to set aside the time to start learning it.
  12. Not sure if someone can point out where I have gone wrong. I have tried to create a pool using the marionette. Have an extrude along path which creates the four walls. Have an extrude which creates the base of the pool. Have another extrude which will be the water (set down from the top of the pool edges). When I run exit I get a Marionette Execution Error, when I click on select node nothing selects. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Pool.vwx
  13. Hi guys, I'm new to marionette. Is it possible to load an excising 2D Polygone to my marionette wrapper to modify it? (especially extrude) thanks, steven Vectorworks 2017 Spotlight (German Edition)
  14. Currently I'm working on an algorithm to generate random triangles within a source shape. Here are some images and a video of my progress. When I find it more stable, a vwx file will be available.
  15. Hello dear forum members, I am only dealing with VW Marionette Tool recently, it seems to be a good tool but the Tutorials are too few. My questions • Is it possible to insert symbols? • It is possible to manipulate 3D components in length • Is this when 3D components lie side by side and touch each other, which I change all in length and the positions again fit so that the components touch again. Thanks for Reading HerrGohlem
  16. Using a worksheet and a marionette network, I can create 61 circles (one rank of organ pipes) with spacing based on a percentage of their diameters. I'm trying to figure out how to create number labels for the pipes. I want the largest circle to be "1" and so on with the label using the same center as it's circle. Pipe Labeling.vwx

  18. Hello, I'm a beginner in Marionette. I succeeded in creating an hybrid object to parameter different sizes and aesthetic of a sliding closet door. However i have a problem if i want to convert the marionette in a result object i can edit as i want. All my geometry is designed based on a bottom left point, with copy and move of rectangles. But when I use the command "create a result object" it appears that all the copies don't move anymore. I joined a picture to show. In a second time i would like to use this object as a symbol to insert it in walls. Manually it works, but i would like that the result object can automatically be inserted. Is it possible ? Thanks for your help to improve this object, Nicolas
  19. I am trying to determine what parameter to input into the Create Field node/FldType to create the different types of fields (i.e. integener, boolean, text, and the multiple formats of numbers).
  20. Hi, I have a problem using Planar Boolean (Subtraction) in a wrapped script in which the original components are not deleted. I've seen this same topic in the forum but, because I cannot find the file attachments I cannot access to the solution. I have attached the file with the script (Marionette object). The subtraction operation happens in the Matboard wrapped script and it's supposed to generate a hole in the matboard through which the picture is supposed to be visible. I will appreciate if somebody can provide the solution. --Carlos picture.vwx
  21. In the current shipped VW Versions (2017 Release & 2016), the Set Layer node is a little flaky. I've attached an updated Set Layer node that is much more user friendly and behaves more appropriately and aligned with the rest of the default content. I hope to have this updated with our shipped content soon. SetLayer_v2.vwx SetLayer_v2_v2016.vwx
  22. I'm having a problem with marionette. I want to make a series of rectangles. I should be able to first enter how many rectangles I want, then each rectangle should get a different length. Is this possible?
  23. Im trying too work out a Marionette that will let cables connect to devices. Kind of like a connection point that I will add to symbols. Can anyone explain this in a simpler way. Im basically trying to make a small AV symbol like ConnectCad uses. I just need a simpler version. I m willing to put the time in. I just can figure out how to plan that Marionette.. I have watched all the videos. I just can seem to grasp what i need to start with for this item.. PLEASE HELP
  24. I really like the functionality of the new Slider node in Vectorworks 2017. It has a good amount of flexibility. Here are a few examples of it used for Angle (-90 to +90 range), Angle (1-360 range) and Percent (0-100). (@MarissaFis there a trick to putting an arrow marker onto one end of a line in Marionette? I thought it would be easy using the Attributes node but that doesn't work. Searching around I couldn't easily find a way to do it....) Kevin Sliders.vwx
  25. Hey guys! I'm looking for users who have 2017 installed to test a network for me... It's the file I was using before for image processing. It should be cross platform, so both Windows and Mac users are welcome to give it a go, but you MUST use VW 2017. This network WILL NOT work in 2016. Attached is a file with a test image and a network. My suggestion would be to not change the test image, but if you really, really want to give it a go, make sure it's still a small image. I would recommend under 100x100 pixels - this network takes a while to run if you use a large file. (One of mine took over a day...) Some additional information to be aware of: 1) This network will install an external python library from the web. The library will be installed into your userfolder/Python Externals. You can delete this at any time and it should not affect how VW runs. 2) This network will create a 'temp' folder in your user folder. This folder is created to store the image that is exported from VW, then imported later. This is done because the Pillow commands require an actual image time to query. You can delete this later, if you would like. Every time you run the network, the image will be re-saved to this location, unless you edit the code. 3) Again, DO NOT use a large image. I promise, there's a chance you would regret it. So I'll end this with a 'use at your own risk' clause, and I would suggest saving/closing any important files you have open in VW in the off chance that you encounter a crash/hang/whatever. Please tell me if you encounter a crash! Also, I'll field any questions you have. If you want more info before giving it a go, let me know, and I will do my best to answer them. This is a very limited script at the moment, I still have a lot more in mind. I just want to make sure it goes well small-scale before I go big ImgProcessing.vwx
