  1. I'm back to troubleshooting things and writing it all down as I go so that folks in the future, if they stumble on a similar problem, might find this helpful. Oddly, my lights aren't effecting image props / image textures: Thought it was Redshift and then noticed it was happening with Realistic, too. Ahhh interesting, when you import an image for an image prop it automatically throws a glow on as the reflection property... I can see why someone might want that but it's weird to be a default IMHO. Cool that's solved. Next problem.
  2. Hey everyone, I'm not sure if General Discussion is the place for this, but really it's not an issue or anything, just something I was curious about. Is there a way to edit multiple label legends at once? I'm trying to make them consistent across the board, but it can be tedious to go through each one individually, especially when I'm pretty much only concerned with changing text and container sizes. Thanks all! You're the best.
  3. Hey all, I'm not sure if there's a way to do this. I would love to add labels to my box boom positions (just something like HR Box Boom) while they're in 2D view. I used lighting ladders and effectively have a plot view and a 3D view so I can use them in Augment3d, but I can't seem to figure out how to actually make that position name show up as a label in the 2D view. Hopefully that makes some sense. Thanks in advance!
  4. Hi it's my first time using lighting devices in Vectorworks. Is there any way you can edit a device so I can open up the barn doors of the spotlight? I can't seem to figure it out if it's possible. Any help would be great. If you do have a way please give me step by step instructions. Thanks Ami
  5. Hello Vworks World, I come to you all in a time of great need, struggling with creating a digital stage lit virtually, and facing some issues/maybe bugs with Default and Ambient Lighting. So, after some tinkering with two .stl files I've received from my Set Designer for a digital proscenium (with a metal black texture for now), and an inner piece meant to glow like a molten iron texture, I've discovered that there was a rather unsavory, very pale white light that seemed to stay on my final quality renderings coming from the angle of wherever my view was pointed, or whatever texture was on each of the objects. I've read in the forums that this is probably the Default lighting, as I've removed the ambient lighting from the document. But what I don't understand, is that no matter the amount or brightness of other lights that I add, there seems to always remain the ugly default lighting. I don't know if this is something to do with STLs ( I had the same issue with it in .obj form as well), or if default lighting is bugged rn, but I am honestly trying to achieve a true black with a small glow from the inner piece for a lot of the looks I'm trying to generate. I've added the vwx file as well as a screenshot with the issue showing for me. Any solutions, tips, or fixes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -Hrindous Prosc Test.vwx
  6. Please see two screenshots attached below... The first image is a screenshot taken from a design layer in OpenGL, when orbiting the lenses remain clean and exactly how I want them to render. The second is taken from a sheet layer of a viewport, rendered in OpenGL only this time I get random artifacts appearing on the lenses of this particular fixture. My first thought was that there may be some overlapping geometry (although this doesn't explain why it renders correctly when in the design layer) regardless, I tweaked the position of this polygon but no success. I also played around with crease angle, removing texture, setting solid colour, various lighting settings, turning off ambient occlusion and DPI settings of the sheet. Any suggestions on a fix would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Dan
  7. Just placed a bit of Christie Lites 7'10" F-Type truss in a drawing straight out of the VW library... As you may be able to see from the attached screenshot, when in OpenGL (or anything other than Wireframe) the truss does not render, however, is still there as it highlights when hovered over and is selectable. I did have other truss in the drawing that was rendering absolutely fine. I have also tried in a blank file and checked the 3D component to make sure that it's solid. Can't work out what's going on after having a good look. Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks!
  8. Hello all, I have been struggling with hanging ETC fixtures on a light pipe for awhile now. My problem only happens when I try to hang ETC Source 4 19deg fixtures from the pipe. I do not have the same problem with my 17deg fixtures or my Robe movers. I have tried replacing the lights with their 26deg sister and the 26degs hang great as they are supposed to! I only have the problem with ETC Source 4 19deg. The problem is illustrated by the below images. In this first image, you can see that the ETC Source 4 26deg fixtures hang great just as they are supposed to. They also will turn and focus as they should when assigned a focus point. I took the same fixtures in the file above and did "Replace Instruments" with the 19deg instrument. In the below two images, you can see the ETC Source 4 19deg fixtures aligning themselves incorrectly along the light pipe. In the third image, the device is thoroughly messed up when I try to assign it a focus point center stage (but it points to the wall and breaks the fixture composition). Things I have tried/double checked: - the light pipes have been converted to hanging positions - I have attached the lights before I try to change the height of the hanging position to "fly" them - I am using the Lighting Instrument tool (not the symbol insertion tool) - I am making sure the hanging position highlights red in order to connect the fixture to the hanging position. - Since I first had this issue, I have done a fresh install of VectorWorks. This did not repair the problem. - I have started numerous fresh files and the problem has occurred each time (no background data somewhere messing it up in the file itself) Please let me know if I am missing something because I have watched so many YouTube videos on hanging lights and going through this process and nothing seems to fix the problem. Thank you!
  9. We use Open GL for most rendering. It's fine for most of our needs. For interiors however I don't like the fact that ceilings tend to look dark (see attached). So I thought I had a great idea: just add just one simple light source to illuminate the ceiling while leaving everything else as is. However it appears that as soon as I turn on one light source the default Open GL lighting disappears which then forces me to add several more light sources to get everything illuminated. Is it possible to keep Open GL illumination while adding just a little supplemental light to the ceiling? Thanks Ed 2020-10-19 Brossmann AADU Schematic Options (dragged).pdf
  10. I'm enjoying working with the new version of Plot and Model view, Schematics, but I would be even happier with it if the data was linked both ways. I'm using it where I have a handful of stacked ladder like positions where I keep my 3D true fixtures in their positions relative in space, have one set of schematics for my sheets in relation to the true position as well as a second set of schematics placed elsewhere in my file. If the schematic views could correctly add, delete, number, etc (what my second set of schematics would be for).... that would speed up my workflow instead of trying to find my fixture under a handful of other pipes to delete or adjust. Currently if I delete a fixture on a schematic rigging point it won't delete from the true position, as well as not correct show it's rotation.
  11. Hi VW, I would like to see an update on the Lighting tools in VW. As an interior/ Retail designer we want to create for example boxlights, line lights. The "convert to" line light of area light tools are in my eyes a bit old dated, or not working fine when you have a large store/ interior space. I dont want work with a Glow texture but with actual lighting that i can control. My vision; update the light tools by adding something like; light using line & light using box. Also options to change the spread and beam of the box. What do you think?
  12. Hi VW Brain.... I am having an issue with Cloud publishing. I have a simple drawing that has about 6 lights (Plug-in ETC and ARRI fixtures). Tried publishing a single sheet render to the cloud and the final product comes back too dark with no lighting. Tried rendering on my local machine (iMac 2019 VW 2020) with the exact same settings etc, and everything was fine. Same occurred when I tried to export (via Cloud) an orbital animation of the same scene. The PDF attached is the Cloud version of the export and the Jpg is what I was able to do wiht the local machine. I might be missing something obvious, but the cloud version is not working. Anyone encountered this before? Concept TLMOP format.pdf
  13. Custom IES lights should show the .IES lighting distribution in OpenGL. Currently in Vw2016 SP2, Custom Lights with an IES distribution file do not show any light pattern and therefore do not render as light sources. See this thread for additional information.
  14. I'm in the process of learning how IES files work and am wondering if anyone has a good resource for a library I could play around with? Something like so would be great (looking for the reference jpg and the corresponding .ies files):
  15. Could be usefull to have a tool that allow to build a strip LED with some parameters like brand of LED, kind of LED (white, multichip etc...), size of the strip, distance between LEDs and soo on
  16. Does anyone know of any good tutorials for creating a wall sconces or pendant light fixtures that renders properly? Thank you.
  17. Hello wonderful community Ive chosen to work in a blank document instead of a Spotlight template. In the blank document the lighting instrument Dont show colorfilter and ch-number etc. Is there an easy way to turn on that function in a blank document. ps. Its not the mistake of dragging the symbol into the drawing instead of placing a lighting instrument. which i used to make the picture example. Thank you for your time. Magnus

  19. In the attached screen caps you'll see a 3D lighting fixture symbol (Shelled box w/ custom light—IES File) rendered. In one cap the fixture is oriented N/S, in the other, the fixture is oriented E/W. Alas, the Lighting beam does not rotate with the fixture, against all the physical laws of nature, apparently. The ies file is a stock ETC Vivid-R70H. I have attached the VWX file as well. Vivid-R.vwx
  20. Hello Really excited to see new Manfrotto stand object library's been waiting forever for these. However they are all wrong as the leg spacing is not 120deg around the stand but lop sided. Please correct as it makes these library's useless as they are not right.
  21. Hi, I am new to the 360 panorama view within vectorworks but I have been experimenting with the tool over the past week and am trying to export a view to send to a client. I've included 2 screenshots of Panorama's I've managed to export the first (Export1) worked well in final quality but i'd missed a few things so made some adjustments in the model and exported the panorama again, now when I export in Final quality I get a final render as shown in the Export2' - a lot worse quality with dark areas. I've tried going back to the original file before I made any changes and exporting again but no matter what I do now my render will not export a high quality image. I'm very confused as I have not amended the lighting at all since the first export and nothing I do seems to be able to achieve these results again. I would be grateful for any advice as to why this is happening. Thanks,
  22. Looking for generic symbols for things like C-Clamps, Mega Claws and Clamps, Side Arms, tail downs, extenders, tube extenders, Safer Side Arms, etc. Does this exist already? I've checked the Service Select Portal and don't see anything there...
  23. Does anyone have a library for Manfrotto stands? Windups with variable heights should be very useful... Thanks in advance!
  24. Dear VW lovers, a little bit of shameless self-promotion going on here 😂 but I thought I'd share some really nifty rendering results which I have been working on for a veeeeery loooong time 😴 😫 I work with VW Architect, not VW Spotlight. So when looking at the results, you can tell how I brought my VW version to the very brink, including my poor graphics card and CPU or whatever works in the background rendering away ... 😱 My main aim was to figure out the best Renderworks Style settings for backlighting, glowing graphics, LED, neon, shiny, glitter, metal, and reflective textures, fog lighting, lighting, even multi-coloured lighting beams, and the combination of many of the above in one single scene. Now honestly I could not have done it without this forum and the help of the always patient and very resourceful support of @Jim Wilson and @Luis M Ruiz who were outstanding in their knowledge, 1:1 correspondence, video tutorials and even providing template files. So hats off and my biggest gratitude to you both 😘 !!! RW Styles - Event Venues - 2018.pdf
  25. Someone on the team probably can make a festoon / bistro lighting tool/plugin. Step 1: draw a polyline Step 2: choose how much vertical swag to use OR the difference between the start and end heights Step 3: choose what symbol to use for the bulbs Step 4: choose the interval at which bulbs appear. Maybe default to every 2ft?
