  1. The shapefile's hegemony over spatial file formats is quickly becoming outdated in terms of variability and portability, its many limitations are outlined here. Currently the only real useful option when exporting is the the ability to modify attribute records that can then be used as modifiers inside VW. Also, weird things happen in .shp exports (like data coming in as integer!!) The only other export alternatives from spatial applications is the .dxf file, which limits efficiency in modifying by record. I personally like the geopackage format developed by OGC. It permits multiple layers to be stored in one file along with style information. Its an open standard. As of yet unlimited file size, other benefits are listed in the link above. But I am open to other spatial formats if members of the VW community have strong opinions. PWF
  2. Hey Hive mind, I am using Vworks Spotlight 2023. The drafting coming from designers are large DWG files and they are taking forever to import. These are not super complicated drawings. The files are anywhere from 300kb to 60mbs. The larger ones are taking upward of 45 minutes to import. Is there a faster way to open these in vectorworks? I also use AutoCAD 2020 (but prefer working in VW). What is the best file type to export for VW import for faster info transfer? Current file included as example. Thanks ALL! 1935395509_CLUSTERAV-RETRO.dwg
  3. Long time VW user / script writer, and very novice Twinmotion user. Curious question that I hope isn’t to much of a bother. I’m curious if I have the ability to write a script/program in Twinmotion to substitute imported Vectorworks symbols with Twinmotion symbols from its internal library or user library. My current VW symbol library doesn’t have any materials attached to its 3D components so using the functionality to substitute materials during the import process within Twinmotion isn’t very helpful. I’m hoping I can write a simple script to substitute symbols but don’t know if I have that kind of access or functionality within Twinmotion to do that. Hoping someone might be able to offer some clarification to help guide my search in working Twinmotion into my workflow. Dave
  4. Hi All! I'm currently working with two files referenced inside a third. The design layer AND classes structure is coordinated between the three so that we can model and design at will. Thing is that we are using the option for the referenced viewports to use the "host" classes visibilities, but each referenced file is split into several viewports each placed on the corresponding design layer so that when we layout in the host file, we see what we want... Thing is that I'd like to "collapse" the two guest files into a single one, and "try" the project sharing way instead of the referencing and here comes my problem. When I "break" the reference and tell VW to import the file, the design layers are imported with a new-name instead of importing the objects inside the existing design layers (which would have been just logic for me)... So... is there a way in which I can "paste" together two different models of two different buildings that have the same design-layers, floors, reference levels, etc. and MAINTAIN all this very important information structures? Thanks all in advance!!!
  5. I have been given an Autocad 2010 DWG file (and more recent versions) to import in to Vectorworks I do the import the way I normally have done, but this time the imported image is problematic. Colours and line thicknesses make the drawing unreadable (The fat blue and fat red splurges are actually room numbers/ door numbers etc) Changing classes does not appear to make a difference. We tried with DXFs also but same problem Is the sender creating DWGs incorrectly? the sender also sent us a "CBT" file (CW_Plotstyle_2021.ctb) but we don't know what to do with it!! I hope you can suggest what to do? Many thanks I have: Vectorworks 2019 SP-6 Mac OS 10.15.7
  6. Hi my friends I have some problems to import .OBJ files, follow the link to download one of these files. When I tried to import this .OBJ, the textures doesn’t import (Appears this message in attach). Import only the 3D Object without textures. http://vectorworks.com.br/temporario/Obj_File.zip Anyone have a idea, what it's happen? Regards Paulo Renan Ferrari Technical Manager
  7. It would be great if anyones, and by anyone I mean my, Vectoworks Class Structures would Export to a Rhino 3DM file as the Equivalent of a Rhino Files Layers. This would help quite a bit for work flow and would value add and reduce labor for the file Export/Import exchange. Any idea if this is possible or being considered? Been Chewing on this issue a while in my work flow. Regards.
