  1. The Wall Data Cost Index System and Cost Index Code are mapped to ifc fields Classification.Name and Classification.Item Reference respectively. They don't import into Solibri - at least I can't find them in Solibri info palette Classification tab where I would expect to find them. Am I missing something here?
  2. I'm building a library of walls based on the popular CSR Redbook wall types for our Australian users of Vectorworks. How do I know which Classification I should use? Omniclass, Uniclass etc. or can they remain unclassified??? Any ideas or pointers will be helpful.
  3. Hi, Exporting ceiling grid to IFC and it moves randomly in the export, some don't move and others move what seems to be no particular distance from where they originally were. Any others experience the same issue? VW 2018 SP 6 on Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.6
  4. Hi, Before we have had issues with the wall end cap to IFC. It has exported as "open sheets and not a solide wall into IFC. Then we did a work around to make it solide. In 2018 SP4 it export as solide, but its not a wall it export as covering not wall that is an issue for us. Is this fixed in 2019 or will there be another service pack on 2018?
  5. Hi, There is a new feature in Solibri in the INFO Location pallet called Federated Floor. I have done a couple of exports and don't understand how I can control this from Vectorworks to IFC. Seems like its random. Does anybody know how to control this from VW?
  6. Hi folks, did some one successfully use the wall component function in an ifc-export? Neither ifc 2x3 nor ifc 4 does anything for me. What am I doing wrong? Where is it supposed to be found in an ifc-file? Vectorworks Help doesn't offer anything remotely helpful. Regards, Eddi
  7. Hello everyone, I'm learning how to manage personal IFC data on specified object. My goal is to generate a IFC file with specified information, to manage costs in STR vision. On this way, I'm trying to set a specified personal pSet, and I'm searching for a variable that can define the object's volume, for instance. Actually I just created the record format to define the fields to fill. I would like to create a variable formula that generate data depending from the object's volume. If I correctly understand, I need to add a specified formula in the pSet dialog into IFC data mapping dialog. After that, I need to manage the specified mapping on the specified voice. The focus is: where can I find the entire formulas list to manage it? For instance, I need to add the volume, so I think it depend from a specified object's variable data. I just find this short list attached: it is the right way?
  8. Hi All, Having a bit of a nightmare at the moment exporting an IFC file for our QS on a BIM project from 3D Vectorworks Model. I have been using various wall types, which are largely generic at this stage. Currently 5 core types, 3 of which are generic walls (3 different thicknesses but no buildup shown), 2 of which are curtain walling types. The QS is trying to break down the building into different wall types to put costs against them. They have told us that the IFC Data they would expect to see in the model (which they would use to read these varying wall types) is not appearing when they open our IFC file. Looking at the model in Solbri, I can see that a lot of fields I would expect to be filled in are blank, and the walls are not searchable/sub-dividable by type. Has anyone successfully used wall types in IFC exports? Have I missed a key step where IFC data is added to each wall type? i.e. 'Wall type code', allowing all wall types to be differentiated in the model. Can anyone explain the 'IFC' menu under 'Data' in each wall type? Where on the below screenshot should we be inputting information? The 'global' vs 'single instance' toggle buttons in the IFC data panel don't work how I would expect them to. I would expect this to allow you to set, say, all instances of the wall type in question to have the same 'type' or 'name'. However clicking on the toggle appears to make data disapear, and clear the field. (I can't explain this very well - please try it yourself if you are reading this and hopefully what I'm saying will make sense!) Any advice much appreciated. Thanks, A
  9. Having a problem with Curtain Wall objects exporting to IFC currently. Problem arose after exporting a curtain wall to IFC, then opening to view in Solibri. The glazed panels did not display with a transparency. After a maddening process of trial and error, I still can't seem to resolve this. It seems that no matter what curtain wall style options or class settings are used, either the glazed portions of curtain walling are not exported, or are exported with a solid fill. Somebody please tell me I'm missing something obvious! On another note, the curtain walling tool could really do with an overhaul. This should be a simple process.
  10. Hello, We are working on a BIM level 2 project and have to import our 3D landscape model (produced in Vectorworks) into the Architects master Revit file. We planned to do this via .ifc but it is not importing in the correct place. If we export our drawing as a 2D .dwg it imports correctly but the .ifc seems to lose its georeferencing. Does anyone have any idea why this might be/if I am missing something? Many thanks! JJ
  11. Hi All, Does anybody know how to place disclaimer/copyright text inside an IFC model for exchange? I can't find any advice about this anywhere so far.. Apologies for the raft of questions I'm currently barraging the forums with. I'm actually surprised by how few threads there are regarding IFC - perhaps not many BIM users yet? Thanks, A
  12. Hi All, I'm trying to export an IFC model for a BIM project, and have run into some problems with grouped objects. Hopefully something I'm just not understanding properly.. When I view IFC data I've exported, any objects contained in a group seem to shift from their correct positions. Screenshots attached, of the same objects not grouped, then grouped (you can see how the row of 4 blue panels shift out of position). Have I missed something? Any tips?? Thanks, A
  13. What is the most up to date recommended workflow to export BIM objects from Vectorworks to Revit while keeping their properties intact?
  14. I’m carrying out a pre-issue check of the vwx to ifc file in Solibri and have come across the error shown below. Exported geometries on a number of objects (not restricted to stairs) are exporting incorrectly. This hasn't happened in any previous ifc exports of this file and I’m at a loss as to why it should start now. VWX's ridiculous ifc export times isn't helping matters. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks
  15. Hi all, We are using Aconex in a project and Im having a problem whereby the Aconex model viewer isn't showing any extrusions (flashing profiles etc) - see attached below. Ive made sure to attach ifc information to the extrusions, and checked the ifc in Solibri before uploading - which shows the extrusions, but when we upload to Aconex theyve disappeared. Im looking at the minute at converting the extrusion to a solid etc, but I can't see a quick solution. The ifc has been sent to Aconex help, but weve got nothing back - VSS believe its to do with the Aconex viewer. Anyone have any solutions??? thanks
  16. Hi guys, I'm starting a new landscape architecture project and I'm having some issues concerning top/plan representation of an IFC file. From what I understood, when I import an IFC model to VW, the elements are recognized as an "IFC Entity", but, entering in edition mode, are just Extrudes, creating a problem in the top/plan representation. Any suggestions to correct this problem? Any IFC import procedure should be done? Create 2d Poly's of the faces of the Extrude Objects? Just attach some print screens of the situation (the site models were already created by me). Thanks!!
  17. Background info: An architect client uses Revit. They usually export to DWG and that works okay, but it seems to be somewhat of a hassle for them. Not sure why. They have shared some Revit files, but the import feature in VW 2017 and 2018 does not produce a usable VW file. I asked them to try an export to IFC. The didn't know how to do that... So, I'm looking for a best practice guide to give to them for exporting Revit to IFC. Request To Vectorworks: PLEASE publish a straightforward step by step process for a Revit user to export an IFC file which will be usable for VW. If this exists, I couldn't find it. A VW webpage dedicated to a Revit to IFC Workflow would be very helpful for VW users. We can send our Revit clients to it. This would also be a great marketing opportunity to Revit users who may be interesting in switching to VW. Thanks!
  18. Hi, Have made several concrete stairs. (The solid stair seems not to have the same problem) When I export to IFC the landing disappears. U-stair double landing and U-stair singel landing. Anyone with the same issue? Bug? Vectorworks 2018 SP2 Ida
  19. Having issues exporting an ifc file. Everything converts and exports as it should, yet it takes 45mins plus for it to process and complete. File size, after purging is 370mb approx. Stories all set up correctly, for each of the 16 stories. Set in plan/top view when exporting, 3D conversion is "low" and most settings are as per the Vectorworks "Sharing your model with IFC" Document. Really is poor, as it means that no drawing work can be done until after the export. ArchiCAD users in the office export larger buildings than this in under a min in work. Any further tips? or is this standard for VW? You can see from the attached image, there is not a lot of detail in the model. Also attached is my computer specs. Its a top of the range iMac
  20. hi all again, Is there a way to mass import several revit libraries? It would be extremely useful to make custom libraries for vectorworks from already made revit object libraries. Currently, importing one by one is a bit cumbersome, wanted to get a take on how to do that at a faster pace? A script perhaps? or is there a way to do this via marionette tool? Looking forward from hearing some ideas. Best, Sam
  21. Good afternoon, I know one of the features for vectorworks was the ability to import native elements into vectorworks from Revit. So I tried to do an example door - using TRUstyle doors as a guinea pig. Here is the attached link : http://www.trustile.com/tools/revit maybe I'm doing something wrong? Also - Simplify Geometry - Awesome Addition to importing complex models. Breath of Fresh air!!!
  22. Dear VW Users, I have more than 500 custom furnitures with a custom property set and different values to import from Revit. Doing this one by one is another pain (is there any way to import more than 1 IFC file to VW at once?) but the more frustrating thing is that after the import something goes wrong. The first IFC entity appears to be good. Than I import the second one, still seems everything ok. Than I make a schedule to show my custom properties with the values, still ok...but after a while, when I import more IFC files my custom properties don't show up anymore and even the ones I've imported before are turned off in the IFC data sets. I have a custom property set called "Other". When I import the IFC this property shows checked as active. Than later on it switches off itself somehow and forgets all the values were in it. I only use =GETIFCPROPERTY('Other.Customvalue') command to list my data, no big magic. Any ideas what do i do wrong? Oh...and now I see while im typing...after I restart VW the IFC entity even forgets my custom property. It is not anymore in the Data Sets for my objects. What is going on?????? VW 2017 SP4 Entity: IfcFurnishingElement 2X3
  23. Hi all Problems have arisen with the framing member. I have create an equal angle and placed it in the model. When exported to IFC and opened in Solibri we find that the framing member has revered side! Please see photos. Other than reversing the member in VW and then exporting does anyone one know why this might be happening? Many thanks Paul Using the latest service packs on VW17 and solibri viewer v9.5
  24. Will I be able to export my vectorworks projects to Navisworks to use clash detection etc. My drawings is mainly piping systems drawn as extrudes, so no ifc information (I guess?)
  25. I want to edit and use some tools for the site model such as cut and fill for the imported site model from elsewhere (ifc format). Can I do this without reconstructing the whole site model all over again from start in Vectorworks? Also, if I exported a Vectorworks site model (ifc format), I cannot edit it again when I import it again to Vectorworks? Is there a way to edit it (and do some cut and fill etc) after the site model was exported?
