    slow file

Hello all, I am working on a project who's file has suddenly become incredibly slow. I have a previous file that would seem to function just fine, the new file has some minor wall changes but that's all. previous file size is 71 mb and the new file has jumped to 95.6mb. Has anyone encountered anything like this? Update this file has jumped to 256mb with nothing added to it. I have other files at 117mb that I can work with with no issue, no issue with flyover or render . This file I can’t even rotate it or change my view Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you
  2. I have a large problem file that I am currently working with tech support to attempt to fix, but in the process I have noticed something strange that I wanted to put to a broader audience to ask what might be the cause. I have had difficulties recently opening and operating this particular file. I was finally able to get a version open, move around a little, but not make any changes to anything in the. I mainly just flipped between different design and sheet layers. Afterwards I saved, and I noticed that the file size has been creeping upward. Over the course of five saves or so, without making any real changes in the file, the file size has migrated as listed below 1st Save - 1,716,180 KB 2nd Save - 1,717,524 KB 3rd Save - 1,717,568 KB 4th Save - 1,717,608 KB 5th Save - 1,717,696 KB I'm not liking the trajectory here and I'm wondering why this creep is occurring/if this is a problem other people are having? These are not substantial changes in size, but without making any changes to the file, I don't know why there would be any increase at all? Honestly, file sizes in VW have managed to creep up on their own as newer versions have been released, independent of this kind of creep, so I'm afraid of where we are headed.
  3. In an effort to continuously improve our redraw speed when working on large 300-600 fixture lighting plots, I am exploring different methods of building our hybrid lighting symbols. - I am curious if there as a hardware advantage drawing 2D elements with polylines versus polygon objects. I often find myself waiting for the drawing to redraw when going between design layers and sheet layers. The time lost there adds up. Thanks.
  4. hi guys, as i've not encountered anything of that size in my own practice, can anybody report on a possible / usual / average file size of the architectural contribution for a 40'000 msq residential or office usage edifice? i know it depends on many factors, as i mean the delivery (final) status of the model. thanks for any hint. rob
  5. I am still having issues with a design client who wants to share exhibition design files with me (I provide the lighting design for their exhibitions). They usually want to send me a single project file, which contains all of the drawings, and usually requires several referenced drawings (the building walls, base build information and so forth). As they are designing 3D exhibitions, then scans or .jpegs of the objects or artworks are included. The upshot is the file sizes can often reach 800-900MB. For me, only adding a layer of lighting information to each drawing, this makes the files unwieldy & slow to use. At present, the simplest work around for the designers is to export the relevant drawings to me in .dwg format, which I then convert back to .vwx to use. This is clearly silly, and we are now beginning to wonder why we don't just all convert to using Autocad to cut out the middleman. Is there a way the designers could export the drawings that I need in a simple manner without all of the detail that they want to keep? The process of stripping this detail out for them is deeply tedious, so they just send me .dwgs. Why can't Vectorworks offer such a similar feature that reduces the file size, without us needing to invoke a third-party process?
  6. I have an .stp file that I need to import, but it is over 300mb. Any ideas on how I could reduce file size for better performance?
  7. Just tried to load a file into web view because we will be seeing the client shortly and wanted to show them. Uploaded to the server, left it on low just to see if it would work and got a warning that it was probably too big for mobile viewing. Then went to the web browser and just got a lot of sky and no model. So took out all the tricky multi polygon stuff and just left in a few walls and extrudes and tried again. No dice. Then tried a bare landscape and boom. Very nice. Very high seemed a bit buggy but high looked great. I have used Nomad and the choice of flyover and walkthrough modes make moving around pretty simple. I couldn't use the 2 fingered pan command in the web view file which made accurate viewing difficult as I could only fly around it or zoom into it. Is there a pan command on the iPad in Web View? The main problem is that I cannot show the client their file. Is there a polygon/size limit? Matt
