1. We're working in EPSG 27700, and have a drawing with plenty of content already created. I need to send some of this information out, ideally in EPSG 4326. I have tried to just change the EPSG in the existing document properties... which seems to perform a transformation of my geometry depending on the options for transformation I have selected. However, when I export (for example, an image file with associated georeferencing file,) the export still references EPSG 27700 co-ordinates. Am I doing something wrong here? Does Vectorworks perform georeferencing re-projections like this? (And if so, what's the right workflow?) If not, I can work this out in GIS - I just thought it might be neater to do directly!
2. Hi all, I'm exporting a Cinema 4D file from VW containing a sport arena. I made a symbol of the sport floor, with all the lines for off side and so on. When I import this as a 3d-file into Twinmotion the symbol doesn't appear. Any clue why this is? Thanks!
3. I'm writing an script that will take each symbol(_i in list of symbols) from the resource folder makes an render and places it in an folder. for _i in _lSymbols: _Renderlayer=vs.Layer('Render') _hRenderlayer=vs.ActLayer() vs.Symbol(_i,0,0,0) vs.DoMenuTextByName('Standard Views',8) vs.DoMenuTextByName('Fit To Objects', 0) vs.SetLayerRenderMode(_hRenderlayer, 6, True, True) vs.DoMenuTextByName('Copy',0) vs.DeleteObjs() vs.DoMenuTextByName('Paste As Picture',0) _hImage=vs.LNewObj() _iRenderFolder=_RenderFolder+ '\\' +_i+'.png' vs.ExportImageFile(_hImage,_iRenderFolder) vs.DeleteObjs() One problem i encountered is that when i set the render mode as "Final Quality Renderworks" (14) or "openGL" (11) it will produce an white square with "paste as picture". so whit this script I'm limited to using modes as "FinalHiddenLine"(6) Also my "vs.ExportImageFile" is not working at the moment. Can Anyone give some tip ore advise on this script or how the get an similar result using other functions. I also looked into using vs.DoMenuTextByName('Export Image File') but this wil give an dialog for the user and I'm trying to limit/eliminate all user interaction. See also my other topic on an small part of this script
4. Hello everybody, please excuse if this has been posted before, I've been searching for it but didn't find anybody to have the same issue. I'm working on a massive map, which i need to export to illustrator in order to continue working. The document is fairly big with 2000*600mm on 1:5000. My issue is that, when i export it to pdf, all the lines become kind of wobbly, straight lines have dozens of curves and appear thicker than normal. The document itself is a mess, i've got it from a colleague, originally it was an illustrator document, but due to the massive size i had to convert it to dxf and edit in in vectorworks. Now i reduced the number of objects, but can't get it back to illustrator, when i export the document to dwg, illustrator wont open it (unknown format, despite me hitting "open dwg" and selecting the .dwg document) I hope i could express myself in a clear way, if anybody could help me, i'd be really happy. Attached you'll find before and after screenshots of the issue. Thank you very much for your efforts and have a great day! kmdf
5. It would be great to get a little status bar when doing an export or publish process so you can get a sense of what VW is doing (though you do get a nice complete dialog at the end)... while you wait, maybe take a quick nap, grab a cup of coffee, whatever. There's no indication that something is happening other than: the program is locked up. Which leads to the question: is Vectorworks doing something or did it crash? There's a pattern there for heavier processing tasks (I.e., rendering / updating viewports 😮). A global, functional status bar would be ideal.
6. Hi! Can someone explain me why exportin a drawing as JPG is changing the colors so much? I'm exporting from the design layer, and not from the layout sheet. Attached you can find a screenshot with the VW project and the JPG open side by side Attached you also find a screenshot with the Export Image file dialog box. Thanks! Francesco
7. Hi Team. In previous versions of Vectorworks Landmark the User Origin is recognised by the shapefile importer & exporter as the 0,0 point for GIS data. This allows shapefiles to be generated directly from drawings which have an offset User Origin through a previous CAD file import (eg. from a civil engineer or surveyor). You simply georeference the layer to the coordinate system of the received CAD file, and export. It also allows a shapefile imported into an existing drawing based on a previously imported CAD file to appear in the correct position, provided that the shapefile and the CAD file share the same coordinate system. In Vectorworks Landmark 2020 I've found so far that both the shapefile import and export functions ignore any User Origin settings, and handle GIS data relative to the Internal Origin only. This prevents a shapefile from being correctly exported from a drawing with an offset User Origin (through previous import of a surveyors CAD file), and results in shapefile data imported into drawings with an offset User Origin appearing at the wrong numerical coordinates within Vectorworks. Perhaps for technical reasons the introduction of the new Geolocate and Geoimage tools required this separation of GIS and CAD workflows, but it certainly seems like a step backwards in terms of CAD/GIS integration. I'd be interested to hear other's thoughts.
8. When creating a PDF, the "Export Classes as PDF Layers" option doesn't work the way I expected it to and I'm curious if there's another way or a setting that I'm missing. I have one main symbol that I'm using for this project that has an attached record format and text objects in the symbol that are linked to record fields. Unfortunately, there's not enough space in the symbol to spread these text objects out, so I put them all on the center point of the symbol and put each one in a separate class. This way, I can turn classes on/off to see the information that I'm interested in. I'd like that functionality to exist in an exported PDF as well so that end users without VW experience can access the information as well. However, I'm seeing that in the PDF, all of the text objects respond to the PDF Layer/VW class that the symbol was assigned to rather than the class they're assigned to individually. Right now, all of my symbols are in the None class, so when I change the visibility of the None class/PDF layer in the PDF viewer, all of the text objects in the symbols follow suit. I've tried publishing both sheet layer viewports and saved views, as well as directly exporting from the active design layer, all with the same results. Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated!
9. @Eric Gilbey, PLA @Vladislav Stanev @Tony Kostreski We need better control of our DWG export process from VW. In order to coordinate with almost everyone, we still rely on this process and unfortunately, it is an extremely time consuming process...both in Vectorworks and in AutoCAD to deliver a product that is acceptable. I have voiced several of these concerns in various topics/threads/forums before to no avail, so I am trying one last time! One thing in particular I am noticing now is that Hardscape objects become AutoCAD blocks, regardless of the export settings! This is BAD...very BAD. We need the ability to have clean, simple, traditional AutoCAD files with minimal time spent exploding and cleaning them up. Block objects are relatively useless to a consultant, who will completely disregard files we send if they have to spend too much time on them. Next. Even if I go through the process of EXPLODING the hardscape blocks in AutoCAD myself, the result is NINE (9) overlapping coincident objects! WHAT?!? This is horrendous! Even if I go through the OVERKILL command in AutoCAD to try and eliminate coincident objects, it will only delete (5) of the (9) overlapping polylines, leaving me with (4) redundant shapes and a pissed of consultant! I am sure these are the result of the SLAB sub-components being exported, but we need a way to ignore that and get simple 2D linework to export. One of the BIG challenges we now face with VW is what is the BEST hybrid geometry to use for exterior hardscape/paving/slabs? For a long time we used floors because they were simple and didn't have any of the issues mentioned above. Hardscapes, although they have made simple strides recently, have always had problems. Additionally they allowed us to manipulate 3D textures on the surface independently, very easily. Obviously, for complex grading scenarios they were ineffective, but for simple "flat world" 3D models, they were perfect...until 2019. VW destroyed FLOORS and their simplicity in 2019 and we have been forced to using Hardscapes. The problem, in addition to the aforementioned export problems, are Hardscape Styles SUCK - They don't act like other styles where, when edited from a central location (the Resource Manager), they should update globally...they don't. CANNOT manipulate 3D texture direction - Think of pavers. If you want to have a varied direction for paver patterns, perhaps following the longest edge or two linear patterns running perpindicular to one another, you cannot do it. It is impossible! 3D Textures sometimes just don't work. Matching properties to ones that do, recreating, editing styles or slab styles all fail to make textures even appear (wireframe) on hardscapes on occassion. I haven't been able to really dive into this specific problem because it happens at inopportune times Slab Styles will automatically switch or break from time to time and have to be manually reset on each object or use the match properties...this should be easily controlled By Style. I know you are making strides in the Hardscape object in VW2020 and I haven't had the chance to really test them yet, but I'm fairly certain that none of these issues have been resolved yet! THIS IS HUGE FOR US! Please find a way to fix these issues ASAP! We need a "Hardscape" tool and workflow that doesn't compromise our workflow...in any way, let alone in 4 or 5 different ways.
10. Why, when using the extremely useful Publish Saved view to DWG option in the Publish settings is the option Export as flattened 2D graphics not available? This is extremely annoying and destroys the productivity of this functionality if ALL of the options traditionally associated with DWG exports are not available from the publish command.
11. Hi guys, I am currently working on Autocad for a couple of projects. I want to use the resource library that I have created over the years on Vectorworks. Although all the resources are embedded in the file (in the resource browser) and are not in the drawing space. I could drop all the items to the drawing and export them, but that would take ages... Is there a way of easily exporting all my resources to DWG? Thanks in advance, Russo
12. I use the wall tool to draw a good portion of my theatre architecture and scenic elements (how I was taught). When I export to dwg for some collaborators, all of the walls are not exported as 3D objects and are only visible in plan view. Is there something I can do to make them show up?
13. In my current project I have Sheet Layers composed of five Design Layers. All visibilities are good and the Sheet Layers in VW (2019, Mac) look complete on the display. Recently, though, when I 'Export to PDF' pieces of one or more Design Layers are missing. However, when I zoom the resulting PDF in and out the missing parts are visible, sometimes only momentarily. It's difficult to find a zoom distance where everything is visible. This started occurring several days ago. Before that the 'Export to PDF' worked fine for making PDFs to print. I can't think of any changes I've made. I tried quitting VW and re-opening, etc. Any ideas or sympathies will be appreciated! Thanks. RLB in Brooklyn
14. I would like to have an option where VW appends a prefix- or -suffix to classes at export. We export DWG to coordinate with consultants. Since they don't have a Class/Layer setup, things get very complicated very fast. For walls on the in VW are on Class: A-Wall & Layer: 1st Floor Plan or 2nd Floor Plan In AutoCAD that wall would end up on: Layer: A-Wall (stacked on top of each other) I would prefer to append the AutoCAD so the walls end up on: Layer: A-Wall-1st Floor Plan Layer: A-Wall-2nd Floor Plan or some version of that. And the same for Plumbing fixtures & Doors & Windows, etc.
15. We would like the clip cube 3D export option. Our entire building file is too big for a quick export. And for various consultants, and we just need a small part to be shared (e.g. Stair). But would still like to attach a bit of contextual information such as the surrounding floor and the ceiling in the said export file. Splitting the file takes too long, and a clip cube 3D export would be so convenient and efficient for our workflow. Similar request has been made in 2017. Looking forward to seeing this update soon.
16. Hello people, I just edit because I found this way. import vs import os Vendor = 'ACME' Price = 123.45 Tax = 1.07 fileName = 'Classes.txt' def Example(): vs.GetFile(fileName) if not vs.DidCancel(): vs.Rewrite(Vendor, 0) #vs.WriteBin(Vendor) #vs.WriteMac(Vendor) #vs.WriteLnMAC(Vendor) #vs.Write(Vendor) vs.Close(fileName) Example() But, the next attributes get this message: "AttributeError: module 'vs' has no attribute 'WriteBin'. " -vs.Write -vs.WriteLnMac -vs.WriteBin -vs.WriteMac With write I don't get error, but also no result. -vs.Rewrite
17. Hi, Newbie here; I am currently trying to export a render of my work as an image file - however whenever I choose the settings and then save, it works for a little while (with the timer counting for a while) and then Vectorworks goes into 'not responding' mode. This has happened every time that I've tried to export. At the risk of losing work I have just left it, and after about 5 hours it unfreezes and the image saves; but surely this is not necessary!! I am exporting at around a 4000x2000 px size, and have tried down to 75dpi (where it has still frozen.) Is there a way to fix this? Thanks
18. Hi All, Having a problem exporting from a vectorworks 2018 model file sheet layer, where the resulting dwg seems to be scaled to 350% (exactly). I'm hoping this is something obvious we've overlooked our end, any suggestions?? Thanks, A
19. Hi Everyone, I Have a worksheet in Vectorworks, with the CMYK values and, the code/nome of product. I need to convert this in .xml, like this below: <D>0.000000,0.117647,0.156863,0.419608</D> <N>SW 0001 - Mulberry Silk</N> I trying made this with this Script below: But I have problem with separation after 0 (.), My export script doesn't put dot (.), Decimal point, after 0. 20. Hi all, I've been trying to troubleshoot a file that a friend sent over. The task is to export a lighting plot which has been drawn in Vectorworks into DWG with all the 3D Spotlight objects in its proper 3D space when being opened in AutoCAD. The lighting plot includes lighting trusses that are at an angle, so Design Layer Viewports have been used to properly display the angled trusses in 3D. I have discovered that once hybrid symbols are being sent into DLVP I am unable to export the 3D objects to DWG properly. The DLVP objects that are exported are in its angled orientation but only with the 2D elements exported and not the 3D elements. The lighting truss and lighting fixtures that are not sent into DLVP - i.e. those that are in its "normal" horizontal orientation remains exported as expected. To demonstrate, I have created a VWX test file with Spotlight 3D objects and exported it to DWG. Attached is the 3D test VWX file, another VWX file with the DWG reimported back in, as well as a couple of snapshots with the export settings. In the snapshots, the truss with its angled orientation is on the left, while the right is the truss with its normal orientation. Possible (serious) bug, or am I doing something wrong? Gabriel 3D test VWX file.vwx 3D test DWG import file.vwx
21. Hi All, Having a bit of a nightmare at the moment exporting an IFC file for our QS on a BIM project from 3D Vectorworks Model. I have been using various wall types, which are largely generic at this stage. Currently 5 core types, 3 of which are generic walls (3 different thicknesses but no buildup shown), 2 of which are curtain walling types. The QS is trying to break down the building into different wall types to put costs against them. They have told us that the IFC Data they would expect to see in the model (which they would use to read these varying wall types) is not appearing when they open our IFC file. Looking at the model in Solbri, I can see that a lot of fields I would expect to be filled in are blank, and the walls are not searchable/sub-dividable by type. Has anyone successfully used wall types in IFC exports? Have I missed a key step where IFC data is added to each wall type? i.e. 'Wall type code', allowing all wall types to be differentiated in the model. Can anyone explain the 'IFC' menu under 'Data' in each wall type? Where on the below screenshot should we be inputting information? The 'global' vs 'single instance' toggle buttons in the IFC data panel don't work how I would expect them to. I would expect this to allow you to set, say, all instances of the wall type in question to have the same 'type' or 'name'. However clicking on the toggle appears to make data disapear, and clear the field. (I can't explain this very well - please try it yourself if you are reading this and hopefully what I'm saying will make sense!) Any advice much appreciated. Thanks, A
22. What is the most up to date recommended workflow to export BIM objects from Vectorworks to Revit while keeping their properties intact?
23. I know it's a backwards workflow, but I may have a new client soon who does concept/visualization in C4D, and I'd like to import their models into Vectorworks. They currently have this workflow: C4D --> SketchUp --> AutoCAD. Ultimately they should go: Vectorworks -->C4D, but I may or may not convince them to change their workflow. Meanwhile, can anyone tell me whether there's an export path from C4D to Vectorworks that preserves C4D NURBS? Their current workflow does not, obviously, and that's a headache for them.
24. I’m carrying out a pre-issue check of the vwx to ifc file in Solibri and have come across the error shown below. Exported geometries on a number of objects (not restricted to stairs) are exporting incorrectly. This hasn't happened in any previous ifc exports of this file and I’m at a loss as to why it should start now. VWX's ridiculous ifc export times isn't helping matters. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks
25. Is it possible to influence the order of Layers and classes when exporting 3D PDF? I have an order of Layers 01, 02, 03, etc... and I want them to be exported in that order as a 3D PDF and stay in that order when opening my PDF viewer. Is this possible? Right now they stay in a disorganised order. Thank you!
