  1. I’m carrying out a pre-issue check of the vwx to ifc file in Solibri and have come across the error shown below. Exported geometries on a number of objects (not restricted to stairs) are exporting incorrectly. This hasn't happened in any previous ifc exports of this file and I’m at a loss as to why it should start now. VWX's ridiculous ifc export times isn't helping matters. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks
  2. I have been trying to create a model using cloud services so that my client can see proposals for a site. I have stripped back the vwx file as much as I can and when I upload the file to cloud services to create a vgx file, it just gives a blank screen (54.3 MB of blank screen). Can anyone help - Vectorworks UK support is closed for the holidays and I need to get this sorted by the time my client comes back from the Christmas break. I've attached the file and a link to the vgx file (cannot upload in here) https://cloud.vectorworks.net/links/11eb490c469a136a8fce0e8109945acd/ Albion - December 2020.vwx
  3. Having issues exporting an ifc file. Everything converts and exports as it should, yet it takes 45mins plus for it to process and complete. File size, after purging is 370mb approx. Stories all set up correctly, for each of the 16 stories. Set in plan/top view when exporting, 3D conversion is "low" and most settings are as per the Vectorworks "Sharing your model with IFC" Document. Really is poor, as it means that no drawing work can be done until after the export. ArchiCAD users in the office export larger buildings than this in under a min in work. Any further tips? or is this standard for VW? You can see from the attached image, there is not a lot of detail in the model. Also attached is my computer specs. Its a top of the range iMac
  4. Hello, my new plugin to get SVG files out of Vectorworks is in beta testing. Let me know if you are interested, as soon as I am ready the plugin will be placed on my Gumroad® page, at a reasonable price. With this menu command you'll be able to export your Vectorworks elements (such as polylines, polygons, rects, arcs etc.) objects to an SVG file suitable for CNC machines. All you have to do is select the objects to export and select the menu "Export selection to SVG", then choose a file name and click OK. The program will produce the correct SVG code to replicate the same selected object in the SVG viewbox determined by the Vectorworks active layer drawing size. Object are exported relatively to the active layer scale, so, if you need them for CNC purposes, better set the layer scale to 1:1 before exporting. export SVG demo movie.mov What Export selection to SVG can do: The plugin CAN export the following Vectorworks objects: Lines Rects Rounded rects Arcs / circles Ellipses Polygons Polylines (also with holes) The plugin CANNOT export all the other types that are not included in the above types such as: Groups, Symbols, Plugin objects (unless converted in the above types) 3D objects Texts (unless converted to polylines) Quotes Images Attributes: The SVG produced will preserve the following object attributes: Solid fills Solid strokes Fill and stroke colors The plugin does not consider dashes, gradients, textures etc..
  5. Export to SVG is a menu command (available for Vectorworks® 2020 and 2021) Info here... Available in beta version (expiring December 15th 2020) Downloadable from here... Please, let me have your feedback / suggestions The final plugin will be available at a fair price on my Gumroad® page and on my website.
  6. Hiya I am experimenting with the trial version of Poser and every time I try to import the OBJ that it generates, I get an error message that says each texture cannot be imported. Anyone else try this workflow? 3D figures in VWX are a joke, between the Vision legacy figures, the useless legacy Human Figure tool, etc. Just want to be able to pose my figure and have textures map properly. Some of the posts regarding 3D humans in VWX are twenty years old. Nothing ever seems to get done about it... Image Props are not suitable. I want real 3D that is posable and looks better than the low polygon "people" i drew for myself 5 years ago. Changing a pose is incredibly tedious in VWX with the symbol build as groups of tapered extrudes, etc. Any help would be great. 21 days left in trial of Poser... peace aj
  7. Hello, I have troubles exporting my VW file in IFC for my engineer working on Revit. History of the events : 1- I exported once an IFC file and re-imported it in VW to check if it worked. It worked. 2- I exported my drawing in IFC2X2, IFC2X3 and IFC4 to be sure my engineer could read it. Tried to import them back in VW : didn't work. Error or no visible geometry in the file, even if the files were heavy, respectively 595 Mo, 1 Go, 7.7 Mo. 3- Send them anyway to the engineer, hoping it was a VW import issue. 4- Engineer couldn't read any of my files and sent to me the screenshot below. 5- Sent to engineer an additional SAT and RVT export. Error while opening the SAT file. Missing stories and walls in the RVT file. My hypothesis is that the issue comes most likely from my VW file. I'm not sure if this could be a hint but the first time I exported it, it asks me to assign layers to stories. Since my file was not organized by stories, I quickly created one and randomly picked one layer and assigned it. Surprisingly, it worked (see point 1). But then I wanted my file to be clean, so I reorganized the layers in question by stories and re-assigned them properly (?). From there, I couldn't import the exported IFC anymore (see point 2). PS : 17'727'024 errors...
  8. We're working in EPSG 27700, and have a drawing with plenty of content already created. I need to send some of this information out, ideally in EPSG 4326. I have tried to just change the EPSG in the existing document properties... which seems to perform a transformation of my geometry depending on the options for transformation I have selected. However, when I export (for example, an image file with associated georeferencing file,) the export still references EPSG 27700 co-ordinates. Am I doing something wrong here? Does Vectorworks perform georeferencing re-projections like this? (And if so, what's the right workflow?) If not, I can work this out in GIS - I just thought it might be neater to do directly!
  9. Hi all, I'm exporting a Cinema 4D file from VW containing a sport arena. I made a symbol of the sport floor, with all the lines for off side and so on. When I import this as a 3d-file into Twinmotion the symbol doesn't appear. Any clue why this is? Thanks!
  10. I'm writing an script that will take each symbol(_i in list of symbols) from the resource folder makes an render and places it in an folder. for _i in _lSymbols: _Renderlayer=vs.Layer('Render') _hRenderlayer=vs.ActLayer() vs.Symbol(_i,0,0,0) vs.DoMenuTextByName('Standard Views',8) vs.DoMenuTextByName('Fit To Objects', 0) vs.SetLayerRenderMode(_hRenderlayer, 6, True, True) vs.DoMenuTextByName('Copy',0) vs.DeleteObjs() vs.DoMenuTextByName('Paste As Picture',0) _hImage=vs.LNewObj() _iRenderFolder=_RenderFolder+ '\\' +_i+'.png' vs.ExportImageFile(_hImage,_iRenderFolder) vs.DeleteObjs() One problem i encountered is that when i set the render mode as "Final Quality Renderworks" (14) or "openGL" (11) it will produce an white square with "paste as picture". so whit this script I'm limited to using modes as "FinalHiddenLine"(6) Also my "vs.ExportImageFile" is not working at the moment. Can Anyone give some tip ore advise on this script or how the get an similar result using other functions. I also looked into using vs.DoMenuTextByName('Export Image File') but this wil give an dialog for the user and I'm trying to limit/eliminate all user interaction. See also my other topic on an small part of this script
  11. What's the preferred workflow to export from VW to Archicad. IFC seems to get the job done but the results are clunky, DWG maintains the look & feel in 2d but lines and filled polygons. I thought IFC promised a smooth Wall-Wall, Window-Window translation that would allow work to continue virtually seamlessly after traversing the wormhole.
  12. Hello everybody, please excuse if this has been posted before, I've been searching for it but didn't find anybody to have the same issue. I'm working on a massive map, which i need to export to illustrator in order to continue working. The document is fairly big with 2000*600mm on 1:5000. My issue is that, when i export it to pdf, all the lines become kind of wobbly, straight lines have dozens of curves and appear thicker than normal. The document itself is a mess, i've got it from a colleague, originally it was an illustrator document, but due to the massive size i had to convert it to dxf and edit in in vectorworks. Now i reduced the number of objects, but can't get it back to illustrator, when i export the document to dwg, illustrator wont open it (unknown format, despite me hitting "open dwg" and selecting the .dwg document) I hope i could express myself in a clear way, if anybody could help me, i'd be really happy. Attached you'll find before and after screenshots of the issue. Thank you very much for your efforts and have a great day! kmdf
  13. I know it's a backwards workflow, but I may have a new client soon who does concept/visualization in C4D, and I'd like to import their models into Vectorworks. They currently have this workflow: C4D --> SketchUp --> AutoCAD. Ultimately they should go: Vectorworks -->C4D, but I may or may not convince them to change their workflow. Meanwhile, can anyone tell me whether there's an export path from C4D to Vectorworks that preserves C4D NURBS? Their current workflow does not, obviously, and that's a headache for them.
  14. Hi! Can someone explain me why exportin a drawing as JPG is changing the colors so much? I'm exporting from the design layer, and not from the layout sheet. Attached you can find a screenshot with the VW project and the JPG open side by side Attached you also find a screenshot with the Export Image file dialog box. Thanks! Francesco
  15. Hi Team. In previous versions of Vectorworks Landmark the User Origin is recognised by the shapefile importer & exporter as the 0,0 point for GIS data. This allows shapefiles to be generated directly from drawings which have an offset User Origin through a previous CAD file import (eg. from a civil engineer or surveyor). You simply georeference the layer to the coordinate system of the received CAD file, and export. It also allows a shapefile imported into an existing drawing based on a previously imported CAD file to appear in the correct position, provided that the shapefile and the CAD file share the same coordinate system. In Vectorworks Landmark 2020 I've found so far that both the shapefile import and export functions ignore any User Origin settings, and handle GIS data relative to the Internal Origin only. This prevents a shapefile from being correctly exported from a drawing with an offset User Origin (through previous import of a surveyors CAD file), and results in shapefile data imported into drawings with an offset User Origin appearing at the wrong numerical coordinates within Vectorworks. Perhaps for technical reasons the introduction of the new Geolocate and Geoimage tools required this separation of GIS and CAD workflows, but it certainly seems like a step backwards in terms of CAD/GIS integration. I'd be interested to hear other's thoughts.
  16. When creating a PDF, the "Export Classes as PDF Layers" option doesn't work the way I expected it to and I'm curious if there's another way or a setting that I'm missing. I have one main symbol that I'm using for this project that has an attached record format and text objects in the symbol that are linked to record fields. Unfortunately, there's not enough space in the symbol to spread these text objects out, so I put them all on the center point of the symbol and put each one in a separate class. This way, I can turn classes on/off to see the information that I'm interested in. I'd like that functionality to exist in an exported PDF as well so that end users without VW experience can access the information as well. However, I'm seeing that in the PDF, all of the text objects respond to the PDF Layer/VW class that the symbol was assigned to rather than the class they're assigned to individually. Right now, all of my symbols are in the None class, so when I change the visibility of the None class/PDF layer in the PDF viewer, all of the text objects in the symbols follow suit. I've tried publishing both sheet layer viewports and saved views, as well as directly exporting from the active design layer, all with the same results. Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated!
  17. Why, when using the extremely useful Publish Saved view to DWG option in the Publish settings is the option Export as flattened 2D graphics not available? This is extremely annoying and destroys the productivity of this functionality if ALL of the options traditionally associated with DWG exports are not available from the publish command.
  18. Hi guys, I am currently working on Autocad for a couple of projects. I want to use the resource library that I have created over the years on Vectorworks. Although all the resources are embedded in the file (in the resource browser) and are not in the drawing space. I could drop all the items to the drawing and export them, but that would take ages... Is there a way of easily exporting all my resources to DWG? Thanks in advance, Russo
  19. I use the wall tool to draw a good portion of my theatre architecture and scenic elements (how I was taught). When I export to dwg for some collaborators, all of the walls are not exported as 3D objects and are only visible in plan view. Is there something I can do to make them show up?
  20. In my current project I have Sheet Layers composed of five Design Layers. All visibilities are good and the Sheet Layers in VW (2019, Mac) look complete on the display. Recently, though, when I 'Export to PDF' pieces of one or more Design Layers are missing. However, when I zoom the resulting PDF in and out the missing parts are visible, sometimes only momentarily. It's difficult to find a zoom distance where everything is visible. This started occurring several days ago. Before that the 'Export to PDF' worked fine for making PDFs to print. I can't think of any changes I've made. I tried quitting VW and re-opening, etc. Any ideas or sympathies will be appreciated! Thanks. RLB in Brooklyn
  21. I would like to have an option where VW appends a prefix- or -suffix to classes at export. We export DWG to coordinate with consultants. Since they don't have a Class/Layer setup, things get very complicated very fast. For walls on the in VW are on Class: A-Wall & Layer: 1st Floor Plan or 2nd Floor Plan In AutoCAD that wall would end up on: Layer: A-Wall (stacked on top of each other) I would prefer to append the AutoCAD so the walls end up on: Layer: A-Wall-1st Floor Plan Layer: A-Wall-2nd Floor Plan or some version of that. And the same for Plumbing fixtures & Doors & Windows, etc.
  22. We would like the clip cube 3D export option. Our entire building file is too big for a quick export. And for various consultants, and we just need a small part to be shared (e.g. Stair). But would still like to attach a bit of contextual information such as the surrounding floor and the ceiling in the said export file. Splitting the file takes too long, and a clip cube 3D export would be so convenient and efficient for our workflow. Similar request has been made in 2017. Looking forward to seeing this update soon.
  23. Hi, Newbie here; I am currently trying to export a render of my work as an image file - however whenever I choose the settings and then save, it works for a little while (with the timer counting for a while) and then Vectorworks goes into 'not responding' mode. This has happened every time that I've tried to export. At the risk of losing work I have just left it, and after about 5 hours it unfreezes and the image saves; but surely this is not necessary!! I am exporting at around a 4000x2000 px size, and have tried down to 75dpi (where it has still frozen.) Is there a way to fix this? Thanks
  24. Hi All, I am trying to export some 3D massing models (pitched roofed house models for context to a site model) to rhino but I cannot get any consistent results. I have tried most of the 3D export options, but VW either flattens the 3D down to the 2D plane, or tears the 3D model into individual planes and then centres them on the origin. The only conversion that gives me approximate 3D house style shapes is the 3DS export option, but all the geometry goes a bit wonky. Does anyone know a workflow I can use to export 'massing models' into usable 3D geometry I can import into another program. Thank you. Nicholas McLeod
  25. Hi All, Having a problem exporting from a vectorworks 2018 model file sheet layer, where the resulting dwg seems to be scaled to 350% (exactly). I'm hoping this is something obvious we've overlooked our end, any suggestions?? Thanks, A
