  1. While editing a 3D symbol we often move the view around the object or change the render mode. But when you exit the edit mode the view orientation and render mode reverts back to what is was before the edit mode was opened. This a bit frustrating because you have to move the view again to what it was while in edit mode. Disrupting the workflow.. a lot. In all the programs we use (Revit/SketchUp etc.) when you exit a 'component'/'model group' the view stays at the same place. It would really help if VW adds the option to keep the view orientation and render mode after exiting the symbol edit mode. Like how it works right now when editing a group in VW.   2. Another Retaining Wall Site Modifier quirk: Create the modifier from a Round (arc) source wall via AEC>Terrain>Create Retaining Wall Site Modifier. Edit the z value at center or end of Left/Right Retaining edges via Reshape tool. Result is a hook, or added short vertical (nearly) segment at the new position. This hook does not have an editable vertex. But it does cause a crease in the site model surface. Strangely, no hooks at start edge if those vertices are moved. In the image, the End edge is hidden for clarity. -B

Hi all, I'm sure this must be basic functionality and I'm just missing something, but is there a way of making Polygon and/or Polyline vertices (or nodes, points, whatever you like to call them!) permanently visible while editing? I know the points all show up if you double click the line, which is great, but if you then want to position a new line or object to certain points on the previous line, and as such you activate a new tool, the points on the original line all disappear. In my particular case I am trying to add coordinate stakes to a boundary line for a contractor to set out on site. The boundary line is over 100m long with a lot of points/vertices/nodes, and it would make the task a lot simpler if I could see those points in a permanently 'on' manner while I add stakes to each one. Before you ask, yes I have snaps turned on, but they also snap to midpoints which I don't need to mark, and it would still be easier to just be able to see the points in the first place.   4. It seems that end-to-end joining of separate, co-linear segments of two exactly similar walls into a single wall object is not possible. Please see the attachments. Even though these wall segments can "join", that is they follow each other when dragging one or the other, they remain separate wall objects as can be seen in the object info palette when both are selected. Being able to join these separate segments into a single wall object would be beneficial for the following reasons: -BIM integrity; since the wall is not going to be built from two different wall elements in real life either, it should be one wall object in CAD as well -ease of editing (style changes etc.) -avoidance of possible rendering issues, "seams" -possible IFC/DWG export implications, if the wall appears as two objects to a reviewer (not sure if this happens if the walls are joined) -general model tidyness; more logical and less objects -quite often one has already drawn two wall objects with windows and doors already inserted, to put all these into a single wall object requires extra steps (extending one of the walls and copying and pasting windows and doors from the other wall). One would think the implementation could be straightforward as long as we are speaking of walls of same style and height. Wall join example.vwx
  5. is there a shortcut way of adding (for example) 6" in dimension (could be height, for instance) to a selected group of objects currently located at different heights? I thought there surely is a way to do this, so I tried entering "+6" in the Z field, but it entered 6" for all of the selected objects, which was not what I wanted. i want them to all be shifted up 6" relative to where they were located originally..
  6. #1 - The current workflow for editing the Roof Edge Shape of a massing model roof (switching between eave/gable/dutch hip) involves ticking Use Custom Roof from Profile in the OIP, and then selecting Edit Massing Model from the Modify menu, and entering an isolated editing view where the building itself isn't visible. This workflow would be greatly improved if the Roof Edge Shape could be directly edited on the massing model, with the context (ie. building walls) remaining visible, and without having to navigate a separate menu. #2 - A custom roof on a massing model currently remains floating at the height specified when the massing model was first created, and needs to be manually raised / lowered to match any changes in the massing model height. This occurs even if the massing model height is adjusted prior to ticking the Use Custom Roof from Profile box for the first time in the OIP. To improve workflow efficiency the height of a custom roof should be automatically controlled by the height parameter of the massing model it is attached to. If suggestion #1 above was implemented, this problem would also be resolved. #3 - The height parameter in the massing model object currently relates to the height of the walls only. The total height of the building (including the roof) cannot be directly specified, nor is it displayed in the OIP as an automatically generated field. Total building height is unknown, and for any given Height value, it varies depending on Roof Thickness, Roof Slope, & custom roof configuration (see #1 above). In urban design situations, both Architects and Landscape Architects frequently need to work to maximum building heights determined by councils, consent rulings etc. At present, to confirm the total height of a massing model (including the roof) one must switch to front view, manually measure the height of the massing model, and make incremental adjustments to Height, Roof Thickness and Roof Slope to achieve the target building height. My suggestions to remedy the above, and make the Massing Model Object useful for Urban Design applications, would be as follows: 1) At the very least, OIP to display the following information: ‘Floor Height’, ‘Roof Height’ and ‘Total Building Height’, so that manual adjustments to building height can be made far more efficiently than at present, by referring to the OIP. 2) Ideally, add the ability to control the Massing Model geometry with the following parameter combinations: a. Floor Height & Roof Pitch (total height determined automatically) – available at present, but total height not displayed in IOP b. Total Height & Roof Pitch (floor height determined automatically) c. Total Height & Floor Height (roof pitch determined automatically) *Roof thickness remains independent and influences the automatically generated fields, as it presently does in scenario a.
  7. Hi, This is probably a dumb question, but I just can't figure it out: How does one join similar, linear wall segments end-to-end so that they become a single wall? The wall joining options don't seem to do this? Please see the attached clipping. Thanks
