  1. Hi all, I’m hoping to call upon your collective expertise, I’ve a model of a small house extension, and I’d like to experiment with adding data to building elements like walls, floor and roofs etc. id really like to learn how I can tag a wall type to hold its data, like 60 or 30 minutes fire resistance. I’d also like to record its acoustic properties say 46 or 42dB for example, and a simple way of recording the uvalue of the wall type for some external walls as I build up my specifications. my idea is that I can colour code wall performances using data visualisation… and I’d like to experiment with additional properties I’d tag in wall types such as existing to be retained, existing to be refurbished, existing to be demolished, and new build. anyone know how I’d get started in this, if you can give me a few tips or a link to a tutorial that would be great. I don’t know how to add custom properties to elements, and I’m not sure what I should be looking for… is it record formats? Or object records…? I’m confused. your help and guidance is much appreciated. thanks all
  2. Hello. We are diving deep in the use of data visualizations. But there are two main weakpoints/hurdles that make their use not-so-nice. 1. The option to completely hide objects. It was already posted here as wish. 2. The implementation of clean lists of referenced items. Let me elaborate. We strongly use referenced files, they have a coherent layer, material, assets, etc. structure as the host file BUT when we list the data-fields for data visualization, there are SEVERAL problems. a. Fields can not be searched for or even alphabetically ordered... with >100 Layers, the scrolling is painstaking. b. Fields are "doubled". We made the layer structure coherent, so we want the "Wall" layer to be overwritten for all the hosted files as well as for the host file... imagine we have 3 files + host and 100 layers... that is a nightmare... A super addition would be if we could list "only" a certain set of data-fields corresponding to a certain filter... similar to what is already possible in the layers and design-layer palettes... Thx in advance and UPVOTE if you like! 😍

More powerful, than a database or text application. A Vectorworks integrated label-script-example with Marionette. The attached example shows how to import address data from a worksheet (could be other data and sources) and additionally places symbol beside the address. The power of Vectorworks and Marionette allows us to put everything you like dynamically on that labels. As example sort by male and female names (if possibly :-) and generate a individual pictures. Just infinite possibilities.
  4. Hi, I'm wondering if it's possible to have one row data tag of 2d/3d Symbol in Resource Manager that half of it is not a hyperlink an the other is a hyperlink Like that Data Tags Not hyperlink: Hyperlink For now, I have to please Hyper links in another row to have this effect like PL, EN below If I have Hyper link after regular tekst in one row, the whole row becomes to be a hyperlink Any ideas, any clues?
  5. Hi Everyone! I´m trying to map the material description property of our material resources into the IFC Material field. The problem is that whatever I do, I only get the "Resource name" into the IFC Field. I know the expression I´m using "works" because I mapped the material description into the IFC Tag field and it got what I wanted, but I don't see why I can overwrite the Material field. Using the resuource name is a no-go, because it has our internal coding and this is not suitable for all the other project agents. Any help would be really appreciated.
  6. Hi, (NEWBIE VW2021/ConnectCAD) - transitioning from ACAD. Our AV schematics normally show the power and data outlets we need to be provided by another contractor (electrical/ICT/main contractor etc) to install (either in a floor box, under the floor, in a wall outlet or even in the ceiling. The same goes for power outlets. What is the recommended Vectorworks workflow to not only show these outlets in a schematic but to synchronise them with the outlets shown on a floor layout (both ways)? (I guess that also applies for other devices that are located in a room not just rack based things - like a projector) The schematic will need a device or similar symbol to represent it, and the layout will need a 3D representation of the object so it can be detailed in elevations etc, and a (low detail) symbol so that the electrical contractor can design their package. Then all of this needs to be scheduled (including the location of the outlet either floor, wall, ceiling etc..) Thanks, Ross
  7. was trying to get a list of all devices in my file, so I could check if they are all up to date with the socket names/count. but whatever worksheet I am trying to create, the PIO "Anschluss" (german for socket) won't show up. But where is their data stored if not in the database "Anschluss"... or skt_rec? sorry, as I mentioned before, I just don't understand how all the databases and ConnectCAD work together (when I have more time I'll have to create some sort of UML overview of all the depenencies... after learning about how to UML. unless you have something like that already @Conrad Preen 😉 ) best, george
  8. I have a reeeeeeally long worksheet generated from a load of data in my drawing. I want to display the whole thing on a sheet, but because there is so much information it doesn't fit on the page, and as such I want to split the worksheet (probably a couple of times, and ideally with the headers repeating!) so that I can fit all the info on one page neatly. I also want to still be able to recalculate the worksheet. Is this possible?
  9. Hi everyone, I'm experiencing an annoying bug which makes impossible for me to use v2021. I'm working with 2D/3D symbols for windows with custom database attached in the ressources manager, in order to makes .ifc exports. After I opened my v2020 file to Vectorworks 2021, I noticed that when I deleted a class, re-assigning the elements to another class, the database of my 2D/3D windows symbols disappeared after freezing a few seconds. I made 2 videos on macOS and on windows10, to show this behaviour, which are attached to this post. Does anybody know why this happened ? Or does anybody already meat this issue ? Meanwhile, I'm stuck under v2020… Thanks in advance for your feedback, with kind regards, GatRed GR-201219.mp4 GR-201222.mp4
  10. I got my data tags mostly under control. there are two things I could not find online help with: 1. What exactly is a multiple attachment points, what does it serve and how do you invoke it? 2. Is it possible to harvest twi different types of data, Bayonne line is a #area# and another is #Window#.#ClearArea#. From what I experimented with it all has come from one source, so what I am looking for is a tag that responds to A or B and not A and B.
  11. Having a problem with Curtain Wall objects exporting to IFC currently. Problem arose after exporting a curtain wall to IFC, then opening to view in Solibri. The glazed panels did not display with a transparency. After a maddening process of trial and error, I still can't seem to resolve this. It seems that no matter what curtain wall style options or class settings are used, either the glazed portions of curtain walling are not exported, or are exported with a solid fill. Somebody please tell me I'm missing something obvious! On another note, the curtain walling tool could really do with an overhaul. This should be a simple process.
  12. We are running into an issue where data tags placed in viewport annotations continually lose their connection to the data and sometimes even shift locations to way outside of the original viewport bounds. Obviously this is a problem if we are trying to use them to annotate viewports in complex construction document sets because we shouldn't have to constantly re-spend the time associating the data tags with their objects or move them around. This is likely similar to the issue stated under this thread.
  13. I wish that VW offered a way to lay a photometric grid on any object and use it to gather the data from IES lights. Basically, like AGI32. This would be a game changer.
  14. Hello, I am trying to use the new Data Manager and I get confused with data sets and data sheets. I create a dozen of symbols each one of them has its own combination of record formats attached to it. As the list of data are quite complex, I'd like to create a "CONCEPT" and "DETAILED" filter to the data palette in the Info Object. I can do it manually for each one of them but looks a bit silly as I am sure there must be a way of saving the "data sheets" somewhere... but I can't understand where and how... Also, as said, Not cealr what a Data set and data sheet are... Any help and hint will be mostly appreciated. Thanks you! M
  15. I would like to be able to fix all or some of the data fields in a Record Format - essentially so I can allocate specific data to all instances of a symbol and be able to update it from a central point. For instance for a particular element of furniture I woud like to be able to give it an ID number and a description (which I can display using the new data tags) and be able to update this information in only one location. At the moment the data fields are independent for every instance of the symbol which is sometimes useful (for a window or door number for instance) but not always and can be dangerous when someone edits the fields without understanding the implications. Is there any way to have fixed data assigned to a symbol that is readable by the data tag?
  16. The Wall Data Cost Index System and Cost Index Code are mapped to ifc fields Classification.Name and Classification.Item Reference respectively. They don't import into Solibri - at least I can't find them in Solibri info palette Classification tab where I would expect to find them. Am I missing something here?
  17. Trying to get some semblance of lux readouts from VL3500 wash in Vectorworks based on their data on their website. http://www.vari-lite.com/clientuploads/directory/downloads/VL3500W_Photometrics032508.pdf What figure should I be looking out for to input into the candlepower data field, speaking of which, what is the unit associated with this field? Footcandle? Lumens?
  18. Hi All, Having a bit of a nightmare at the moment exporting an IFC file for our QS on a BIM project from 3D Vectorworks Model. I have been using various wall types, which are largely generic at this stage. Currently 5 core types, 3 of which are generic walls (3 different thicknesses but no buildup shown), 2 of which are curtain walling types. The QS is trying to break down the building into different wall types to put costs against them. They have told us that the IFC Data they would expect to see in the model (which they would use to read these varying wall types) is not appearing when they open our IFC file. Looking at the model in Solbri, I can see that a lot of fields I would expect to be filled in are blank, and the walls are not searchable/sub-dividable by type. Has anyone successfully used wall types in IFC exports? Have I missed a key step where IFC data is added to each wall type? i.e. 'Wall type code', allowing all wall types to be differentiated in the model. Can anyone explain the 'IFC' menu under 'Data' in each wall type? Where on the below screenshot should we be inputting information? The 'global' vs 'single instance' toggle buttons in the IFC data panel don't work how I would expect them to. I would expect this to allow you to set, say, all instances of the wall type in question to have the same 'type' or 'name'. However clicking on the toggle appears to make data disapear, and clear the field. (I can't explain this very well - please try it yourself if you are reading this and hopefully what I'm saying will make sense!) Any advice much appreciated. Thanks, A
  19. I may have heard from a little birdie that a broad overhaul of labeling capabilities/tools may be in the works in coming versions. As I have become recently aware, the solution may already be hidden in the irrigation tool suite and it might not need much tweaking to become the full scale labeling tool we need. The Tag/Label Tool within the irrigation tool suite not only has the ability to label irrigation objects with inherent data in a variety of customizable label styles; thanks to @Bryan G. I just learned that the tool can actually represent ANY data attached to objects in plug-in parameters or custom record fields. This is HUGE. In order for this tool to become the tool we need however, there are still a couple of tweaks that would inform an ideal workflow. The Tag/Label, when placed on an object, needs to lock relative to that object. This means that if the tagged object moves, the tag/label moves relative to it. Note that not all labels need to point directly to the object, but in the general direction and this functionality needs to still exist, but in this case, if the tagged object moves, so too should the tag/label move. Ability to save styles and remember most current - When tagging/labeling different objects the style or data labelled might change. There needs to be a way to store these different styles and the ability to choose from them, but also remember the last one used so that it doesn't revert to a default setting each time a label is placed. Act Like Keynotes Placed as Keynote Callouts - Auto-numbering and organization are the primary benefits of using keynote callouts currently and we use them almost excessively considering the difficulties with managing the callout database. This tool has the potential to offer the benefits of that tool without the fuss. If the tag/label chosen has the ability to be represented by a Keynote Callout that puts the label in a Keynote Legend and auto-numbers/letters similar to callouts currently, we could then build extensive keynote legends/worksheets based on objects' inherent data that auto-numbers. Place in Annotations - I imagine that this is perhaps the hardest ask, but it is potentially the most influential...we need the ability to somehow use these Tags/Labels in the Viewport Annotations space while still linking to the objects present in the design layer. It is far easier to organize labels for legibility when placed in the annotations and it removes design layer clutter. Additionally, when placing callouts in Viewport Annotations you can take advantage of the viewports margins and white space to aid in legibility and organization. This isn't something you can do when placing on design layers. Finally rotation...many viewports are rotated and in order to represent labels on these viewports when placing in design layers, you must rotate them to read horizontally...often in very extreme angles which just adds to the clutter, confusion, and chance for error. All in all, this tool is very close to what we need and I am excited to find ways of working it into our workflow. My hope is that VW takes this into consideration when working on any new Tag/Label tool.
  20. Im in the process of naming some light sources in my files so easier to set up certain renders. I have named a light and that shows up in the visualization pallet, however when I name the heliodons the name doesn't change.
  21. I was wondering if there could be a carpet tool for the events section. The tool could have the following items. 1) Stock Carpet Widths & Roll Sizes. 2) Places Data inside object after created. Meaning it will label itself like the Hoist Tool. 3) Can select carpet type from tool 4) Tracks Rolls of Carpet use and Costs 5) Lets you select room and automatically carpets with data inputted. 6) Creates Carpet Report 7) Carpet Layout Tool Would allow you to easily carpet and event where you may use different colors of carpet or material in the event! I know I could use this everyday in the Event world. I would imagine it could be used in the architectural word as well.
  22. I vote for a global Materials System in Ressource Manager. That will hold all Building Material Info in one Place. That will be needed for Classes or Components of Architectural Plugin Objects or finally IFC Export. Things like Energos Values, Weight, Render Texture; Hatches, Fill Color, Fire withstand, ... and lots of Custom Data fields for Prices, Manufacturer, .... And maybe extra Multiple or Sandwich Groups of those. And lots of Preset Libraries. Reason : That way we have to set these values only one time when we create Wall/Window/Door/ .... Styles.
