There seems to be a lot more auto-generated classes lately. For example, if I insert a stage light to project a gobo or I simply want the instrument body to appear as part of the scenery in my rendering, that auto creates four classes: Braceworks, Hanging Point, Distributed load and Point load. When I try to delete these classes I'm informed that "one of more of the objects I'm trying to delete is a required component..." Even after I have moved the objects to other classes. Same with all kinds of objects and symbols. It makes me not want to import anything in from the RB for fear of cluttering up my document with undeleteable classes. I can go into the Org panel and work my way up the tree reassigning and deleting and it looks like it worked. But exit, and there they are, still in the navigation stack. I go to one of these classes with Layers=S/S/MO and Classes=Active only and Ctrl-A and get nothing. So these are empty but undeletable classes. Is there a way to control the auto-generated classes or at the very least delete them effectively? VW 2020 Windows 10

From the perspective of creating and maintaining drawings standards: Is there a way to have a class in one document and have it referenced in another document, then make a change in the class attributes and have it change in the referenced document. (as you might with a symbol) Also is there a way to rename a class and have it be renamed in the other referenced documents.

Hi, Establishing criteria for databases is easy: Database header cell: =CompAreaByClass('Class-1') using the previous function and establishing criteria I manage to show results only form a particular layer. What I can't do is the following, I want in a normal worksheet cell to get the area of my components but specify from which layer. I know I have to use this function: Spreadsheet cell: =CompAreaByClass(t=wall,'Class-1') What do I need to add to the function above to specify the search in a particular layer? Thanks in advance, Martín

I am trying to group together several similar items (each in a different class) into one group inside of a symbol. This group is intended to be in a parent class that would then control the visibility of the entire group. However, after grouping the items in the symbol and placing it the desired class, when I exit the symbol, the items come un-grouped. When I reenter the symbol edit, sure enough, they are all ungrouped. Any ideas?

Heya Team, How would you go about toggling which classes to show in your symbols thumbnail view? For example, truss with a simplified class, in hidden line symbol thumbnail render mode it doesn't look like truss. how would I turn that class off for the symbol render? Thanks in advance!

When I change the colour of the class my cabinet doesn't adjust to this colour. I have created multiple cabinets from one base wich works fine. But the cabinet I have attached doesn't change as you can see for yourself. I have changed three classes which the cabinet uses, but they all remain white. Does anyone have any idea, what might be the cause? Any suggestions or ideas to simplify my cabinet are welkom... I get the idea this one is made more complicated then needed. Parametric cabinet.vwx

The Plant Definition does not appear to give the user the ability to assign a plant to a particular class. This would appear to be a useful feature which would be very valuable when using the select similar tool for instance or in a large scale planting. Currently it appears to default to NONE. All comments appreciated.

So I have a class structure set up and therefore set my attributes to 'class style' but I have noticed that this changes and I'm not sure what key I''m pressing or what action I'm carrying out that is changing this? Any ideas? Its driving me crazy. I guess sometimes my active class changes to others too sometimes - I might start drawing on my '1 EXTG Walls' class and then all of sudden it might be back to my '0' class?

it will be good to have Class 'parent class' so that objects take the class of the container (group, symbol, Plug-ins). this will be usefull by symbol. for exemple a chair with steel structure and a upholstery with parent's class that can be than change. or group with object with a fixed class (other objects have parent's class)

Hi there, I've noticed that whenever I 'Force Select' an object, it activates the layer but doesn't change the active class. This has been the case among many documents, and occurred with VW 2017 as well. Any thoughts?

I use a 4" high outer component to a wall as a base which I show in 3D but not in 2D using class visibility. When I turn on the "hide details" toggle in 2D the wall does not respect the width of the wall with the base class turned off. I suspect this is by design as the graphic is likely for the entire wall but it is not expected.

I'm not a scripter, and in my limited research I was not able to successfully do this. I want to create a tool (marionette node, vectorscript, anything) that when I run it it will create a series of classes in the active document. I know what I want all those classes to be, just don't know how to make this script. Thanks,

Automatic new (sub-)subclass prefix creation
Art V posted a question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
It would be nice if a new subclass or sub-subclass could be created by right-clicking on the parent (sub)class in the navigation panel when in hierarchical view E.g. Class1 Class1-Subclass1 Class1-Subclass2-subsubclas1 Class1-Subclass2-subsubclas2 If I would right click on Subclass2 and select new class then it would automatically start the new subclass with the proper prefix, i.e. Class1-Subclass2- in this example and then I would only have to complete the subsubclass name instead of either retyping the whole thing or duplicate the subclass and then edit it or edit a subclass, copy the name and then paste it when creating the new sub(sub)class. Especially when you have to create (sub)subclasses on the go as new information is piling up that does not fit within existing classes and you want to class it this would save quite a bit of time. -
It would be nice to be able to assign a class to window and door styles in the Settings dialogue box - not classes for the individual components but an overall class. e.g. all windows are assigned a user class such as My Windows, so when calling up windows using the tool we do not have to change it's class from None to My Windows. Same for doors. Thank you for your consideration.

Hi all, I seem to be unable to select objects from other layers other than the one from my active layer. It seem to me the only way to go about doing it is to right click the object and choosing force select. I have checked online and the impression I get is that i shouldn't have to do this as my setting for my class is "show/snap/modify others". However, in my 3rd screenshot as i dragged my cursor over the area shown, only my 2 lights fixture turn orange(this orange did not appear in my screenshot) and not the 2 rectangles which are TVs. This is the same when i try to click on any other thing. Does anyone know if i need to check on any other settings?

This is an idea for a new way to create new classes. Instead of 1). going to the Organization, 2.) creating a new class and then 3) modifying it's corresponding attributes (i.e. pen, fill, texture, etc.), it would be awesome if there were a command, perhaps a right-click menu command, that created a new class with the attributes of a selected object. Inherently this would then work best if the objects selected were placed in the newly created class and made to reflect all attributes by class. This would be an additional, more visual way of creating classes, simply by first applying graphic overrides to existing objects, and then by using that object to define the style of a new class. Its kind of like a style in Word or InDesign...

I find myself forever going to the Color Palette and having to go through the 4 drop downs to reset all to the "Color by Class", "Fill by Class" "Style by Class" etc ... Does anyone know a shortcut or script to automate this?

Another plant tool query: Generic "Small Shade Tree 01 object has components classed for outline, canopy, interior linework, and color fill. The only color fill classed object is a single short line - sort of a twig similar to the interior linework. Does it have a function for display or other use? This wouldn't be an issue except that if this resourc plant definition is duplicated to use as basis for a new custom plant object, the new object does not display properly if that "twig" is present. My discovery: Duplicate the resource, edit the 2d components. Replace or reshape all the elements, leave the twig as is, or move it to new position. Now place the new custom plant object into a drawing. The shadow and mass outline functions do not work. Edit the definition 2d elements and delete the twig. Now the shadow and mass outlines display as expected. Any ideas? -B

When first used in a new file, the Plant Tool creates classes for the various plant graphic components - Outline, Canopy, Color Fill, Bloom, Interior Linework, Tag, etc. None of these classes defaults to Use at Creation. Why is that? My opinion is that they should all be set to Use at Creation, at least for best attribute control in Viewport overrides. Or? -B

Would be useful in the Object Info palette (as in the Navigation palette), after the selection of a object in the drawing, to click on the class (or layer) pop up menu having the position of the cursor already on the line corresponding to the selected (or active) class or layer and not on the top of the list as it happens now. This action could simplify a fast change of the class or of the layer containing the selected object.

I am exporting a number of Sheet Layers with viewports for a project to DWG format to hand over to my Consults. They would like to have a list of the classes (their layers) that are on or off in each viewport. Is it possible/difficult to generate such as list for each DWG File created for each sheet (Mostly flattened plans and sections) Thanks, Steve

Apologies in advance as this is quite long winded.. I've noticed some weird behaviour when trying to alter the way classes appear in certain viewports, through the viewport class properties panel. Essentially my understanding is that if I have class 'test 1' set to display by class (all aspects, i.e. fill and lines), then I can override the appearance of geometry on this class from say 'green with red outline' to 'yellow with blue outline'. I could also choose to display these items with a hatch instead of a solid fill, etc. However, if the class is NOT set to display by class, then its appearance cannot be overridden in a viewport. It would be good if this could be changed, so that ANY geometry could accept an override via the viewports own properties. This isn't my main query though. Now bare with me.. If I take some geometry on class 'test 1' and give it a solid colour (not fill by class), THEN set it to hatch by class, I should be able to override the fill in the viewport properties panel. This does work - partially - but the item retains the solid colour it was given before it was changed to a hatch. Essentially this means the item has hidden information contained within it, namely a fill colour, which effects how it behaves even if it is set to display a fill of say, hatch by class. I guess my query is, is this a bug or is this working as intended? It can be quite irritating, as in order to tell if each item has a fill colour attached (i.e. not fill colour by class), you have to look through each item individually (from hatch, tile, etc.). As a followup an add to wishlist, although perhaps someone can suggest me a more concise way of saying this for the wishlist item.. Thanks!
