  1. Hey, I'm currently trying to make a worksheet that displays lot areas with their numbers. I want to also display a building footprint on a separate column that is still within the same row as the area based on the respective lot numbers. Both the lots and the building footprints are spaces but they are on their own classes "Building Footprint" & "Lots". What I'm struggling with is that I can't seem to add more criteria to the columns to display AREA based on the class that the object is on. I've tried the code lines: =AREA(CLASS('Buildable Footrpint')) =AREA(CLASS='Buildable Footprint') But neither of these work. The second code line returns the value #OPCODE?. I've attached an excel spreadsheet with the general idea of what I am trying to achieve. The overall criteria for the database is: =DATABASE(INVIEWPORT & (INSYMBOL & (INCLSUBX)) & (PON='Space')) Thanks for the help.
  2. Hi, have You heard about Moasure measuring tool? I'm wondering about it's precision and would like to here users opinion. It looks very useful considering that every measurement area ends with cad file data and includes area shape and elevation. They also advertise it as Vectorworks compatible (probably od DWG file import) Also its price is quite reasonable. Any comments?
  3. I can place engineering properties of a polygon on a drawing but I just want to place the areas on a drawing with a large number of polygons. This is so basic I must be missing how it is done. Help please! Ideally of course I should be able to choose any of the the engineering properties but I cannot see how to do this.

About this File This tool is available in english ("Apartment Tag") and german ("Wohnungsstempel"). The contents are nearly the same just translated. This Marionette Tool summarize all Space-Areas, which are part of the same Appartement Number and shows the result in a symbol based Marionette stamp. Alternatively we can pull out sum of apartment area with a worksheet. But this Marionette is also a nice method to do this. Instructions: 1. The Marionette Objects access to the field "11_Room ID" of the space object. Every other field can be used if necessary by editing script. 2. With the Marionette PIOs field "ApartmentID" you can tell the stamp, which apartment should be displayed 3. With the Checkbox "Layer from Apartment Tag". You can make the Tag collecting spaces of the tag's layer. Otherwise it will collect areas from the layer of the layer popup 4. You can exclude Spaces with specified keywords. Delimiter for Keywords is "$" 5. To use the Marionette PIO on the Target Document, copy/paste the PIO and then import the Symbol definitions from the Folder "ApartmentStamps" on the Target Document.
  5. Hi all, is there a worksheet function to determine the (projected) area of a 3D solid ? For quick numeric evaluations of Urban Design Proposals, I would like to calculate the sum of all (floor-)areas of all 3D-objects with certain selection criteria. Unfortunately, not all 3D objects have a floor area, only extrusions – and extrusions won't show up with a fill in the plan view. 3D-Solid-Additions work best for me, but they don't have an area - is there a simple way to calculate the projected area of any kinds of objects inside a worksheet?
  6. Hi all, I'm pretty new to direct scripting in Vectorworks, but always wanted to learn. As a first attempt I wanted to create a simple script that searches for "spaces" and assigns them to appropriate class depending on Net Area. In my file there is an example that should assign Spaces with area <10m2 to the RED class and rest to the BLUE class. But, obviously, it fails since I' pretty green in this Area 🙂 Can someone give me a hint, not the solution, something that will help me to write this script? Space sorting script.vwx
  7. Hi, Establishing criteria for databases is easy: Database header cell: =CompAreaByClass('Class-1') using the previous function and establishing criteria I manage to show results only form a particular layer. What I can't do is the following, I want in a normal worksheet cell to get the area of my components but specify from which layer. I know I have to use this function: Spreadsheet cell: =CompAreaByClass(t=wall,'Class-1') What do I need to add to the function above to specify the search in a particular layer? Thanks in advance, Martín
  8. In Jim's Knowledge Base list of window functions for worksheets I cannot find "Overall Window Area". Is there such a function to return the elevational area of the window? For now I use the obvious workaround :WindowWidth*WindowHeight. Before using this workaround I was using the function "Area" . This returns a value for each window in my database worksheet. But the value is larger, though not much, than Width*Height. I guess Area is too simplistic for using with the 3D Window object , being normally for 2D objects. PS I am finding VWX2016 a truly rewarding experience!

    Slab data Area Take-off

Does anyone know how to get an area output for slabs in a 'slab data' worksheet?
  10. Hi there, I have a survey file of an area of approx 3000 x 1500sqm, with 0.5m contour data (3d polys) and a few spot heights (3d loci). I have validated the data and Vectorworks detects no issues, but everytime I try to create a site model from this data Vectorworks appears to crash (presumably due to area / resolution?) I have extracted a smaller area of the same data as a test, and this generates a site model fine. I don't want to simplify polys, as a.) I don't want to lose definition and b.) simplifying polys causes the contours to overlap and I will have to spend a lot of time re-validating this data. I also don't want to amend my minor contour interval (0.5) as again, I don't want to lose definition. The site model is required for construction information to set levels and calculate cut and fill, so needs to be as accurate as possible. Do I have any other options in terms of creating a model from this data? Is there a typical size of area that Vectorworks can handle as a site model? Does anyone have any experience of the length of time it typically takes to generate a large site model? I work for a Landscape Architecture practice and we are just starting to test the capabilities of Landmark for our work, so good to understand the limitations in advance. I'm currently on Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6, Processor 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3; Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M 1024 MB... running Vectorworks Landmark 2014. (I will put this in my footer for future use!) Thanks, Lisa
  11. I am trying to calculate the area of a 2D polygon in square feet, independent of whatever the document units are. The "area" node only returns a value in the document units. Is there a way to specify the units independent of the document settings?

Surface Area of a 3D Solid

Is there a way to determine the surface area of a 3D solid? I have a multifaceted solid with about 50 different faces. (essentially a single component solid of a modeled building) How can i find the total area without clicking on each surface and viewing the properties? Thanks!
