Wondering if somebody from Vectoworks could give an update on the best GPU to get the most bang for buck in the software. When buying new hardware for our studio, sellers try and push NVidia Quadro cards as they are supposedly more geared towards studio environments. However previous feedback from the Vectoroworks team and subsequent discussions suggest Quadro cards carry no particular benefit for Vwx, and you're best off going for the comparable GeForce card which will give best performance for the price. Is this still the case? Any guidance on where vwx is at now in terms of GPUs - and where its headed in the future? Are there any advantages to the Quadro cards?

Hi All, Any other PC enthusiasts out there? NVIDIA and AMD both have new GPU's out there. If you had to choose ONE for vectorworks on PC, which of you choose the 3080 and which of you choose the 6800XT?

If I fill my shopping cart with 1950x Threadripper parts, I easily reach 4500 € (incl. 19% VAT) Not the cheapest but far from most shiny parts. I am interested in ECC RAM, 64 GB in this case SDRAM 2400 the fastest I can see. GPU is a 1080 without Tee Air Cooler SSD + SATA data SSD But what about those about 6 different boards ? I can hardly see any differences beside the prices. Is it only the sound chip ? My Quality sorting for motherboards is about : Asus Gigabyte MSI Asrock ... Is that reasonable ? Asus are eATX standard and extend a bit to the right. While others vendors are standard ATX. Looks like there isn't much Space to the right side for most Fractal Design chassis. Your thoughts ?

Hi, I have tested a few computers rendering a large model, filesize 1 GB. My "Old" computer did it in 1:41, having i7-6700 @3,4 GHz, boost up to 4 GHz. Our new Ryzen computer, having a fabric clocked 1800X, did it in 1:38. Not much extra speed on the render. What I see is that the "symbols"part, prerender, and edge part of the render is not utilizing the processor at all, and it's just the pure rendering part where the processor goes full tilt. I think the i7 is par or maybe a bit faster than the Ryzen in single thread, so it seems most of what we at our company has thought of rendertime is not actually rendering but some kind of single threaded operation. It seems like a i7-7700K overclocked would be a good bet for a faster CPU for rendering viewports for Vectorworks. Does anyone who have a bit more knowledge on this? OJ

Hi there. We use VW2017 to add electrical engineering features to architect issued plans. In a rather big project we get multiple 500 MB - 1 GB plans from the architect that we have to import and save as VW documents to be able to work on them. This happens a few times a week and it surely adds up time before we can work with those plans. As of now we are using the biggest baddest iMacs and VW2017 for the planing and even they slightly buckle when importing those plans. Trying out different MacPro and Mac minis we determined, that during the import process it's the clockspeed and the usage of real CPU cores that truly makes the difference. For example a MacPro 2009, 4-Core 2.66 GHz XEON on 8 GB RAM, SATA2 SSD with 10.11.6 and VW2017 will have around 2min 30sec to import a 10 MB .ifc file. We tested it with the standart GT120 (512 MB VRAM) and a GTX760 4GB and there practically no difference between them. GPU seems to make no direct impact at that point. Also it shows only the real cores under pressure, so no hyperthreading during import. So there are a few questions that need confirmation: Is the observation correct, that it is the clockspeed and the physical cores that really count during import? Can VW2017 actually use more than 4 Cores? How is it in WIndows 10 64bit? Will 32 GB RAM bring a significant boost against 16 GB RAM? Would a RAM disk containing the file to be converted bring a significant difference? We threw round a few suggestions and thats what we would go, if the before mentioned points can be confirmed: AMD Black Edition FX 9590 4.7 GHz 8-Core on a FX990 Chipset board, AMD RX480 (8GB VRAM), SSD, 16 GB RAM (or 32 if it really makes a difference) In the end we are aiming for the setup that will allow us to max out on the import process (within reason of course). Thanks for your input, your tips are really appreciated! Best Regards Thomas Alt
