Vectorworks does not "see" the items in the Resource Manager. While it is possible and easy to generate a report/worksheet of the record data of resources when they are placed in design space... It seems it is NOT yet possible to generate a report/worksheet of the record data of resources that are in the Resource Manager. Does anyone know how to do this? Or does this troubleshooting question need to become a Wish List item? Thanks! Anna

I need my worksheet to correctly display the parts for sconces I plan to build. This criteria setup should work, but I have something wrong. I want to display the sconce parts on the East Wall layer and the West Wall layer, but not the Sconces Parts layer. This setup does not exclude the sconce parts on the Sconce Parts Layer. The total count should be 30, not 36. What do I need to do to fix that?

I have a symbol of a mantle I am building. The sides are tapered but they are mirrored images of each other. I duplicated a side, then flipped it horizontal. When the side is not flipped, my cut list worksheet shows it's summarized by Part ID width correctly, but when it is flipped or mirrored the worksheet shows the summarized by Part ID width as ---. What's the problem Vectorworks!

Hello, I’m trying to use the Worksheet Formatting Scripts plugin. I installed it and it works fine in the Example project (Download 2023 from Very Small Group). However, in my own project: I don’t get any formatting applied to my worksheets. The WS window/palette that appears in the example file doesn’t show up. The context-menu tools for worksheet formatting also don’t do anything. In short, the plugin only seems to work in the Example file and not in my documents. Could someone point me in the right direction? Details / what I’ve tried Installed the plugin as instructed; restart done. Confirmed the menu items appear in my workspace. Tried on new and existing worksheets in my file. Checked document units and worksheet visibility. If there are known requirements (e.g., specific worksheet naming, class/layer context, or a palette that must be enabled), please let me know. I can also share a stripped test file if helpful. Thanks!

Hello, I've been searching around but i can't find a video about how this is made. In the Vectorworks user days (dutch). They showed a video of someone having a worksheet where it showed checkmarks if his electrical outlets were "above", "below" or "the exact hight" with a check mark, arrow up or an arrow pointing downwards. I'll add the video with the timestamp below. There you can see the sheet im talking about. Is there someone who has a similar worksheet that he wants to share with me so that i can learn from it. Huge thanks in advance! Kind regards, Quinten db

Hi everyone, I have a georeferenced drawing, and I created a grid of grid lines over the plan after rotating it 11.3° to align with the site. I then used Set User Origin to place 0,0 on the lower-left intersection of the first two grid lines. I built a worksheet to show grid references for Reference Markers placed in the drawing, using the following formulas in my database columns: =CONCAT(INT(YCoordinate/10000)+1, 'R') =CONCAT(INT(XCoordinate/10000)+1, 'C') =CONCAT('R', INT(YCoordinate/10000)+1, '-', 'C', INT(XCoordinate/10000)+1) (R stands for Row and C for Column ) Each Reference Marker is placed within that grid. What I didn’t realise at first was that I was expecting the User Origin to act not only as a new 0,0 point, but also to rotate the X and Y axes so they matched my drawn grid. In reality, the worksheet still reports XCoordinate and YCoordinate based on the georeferenced / internal coordinate system, not the rotated plan grid. When plan rotation is 0°, the values relate to the user origin but are offset by 11.3°; when plan rotation is 11.3°, the worksheet switches back to the true georeferenced northing/easting values. Question Is there any way to: Set the User Origin when the plan is rotated, And have that new origin and rotation override the internal or georeferenced orientation — so that worksheet functions (XCoordinate, YCoordinate) report values aligned with the current rotated grid, not the original world axis? Or alternatively, is there any function that returns local, rotated coordinates based on the current plan rotation angle? Any insight or workarounds would be greatly appreciated — I’d love to find a method that keeps worksheet-reported grid references aligned with a rotated, georeferenced plan. Cheers, Andy

Worksheet Formula, Looks Good (to me) But Returns Nothing
Mattc2 posted a question in Troubleshooting
Hi I'm looking for insights into why the following worksheet database formula returns nothing? =DATABASE(INOBJECT & (INSYMBOL & (INCLSUBX)) & ((PON='Landscape Area') & (SPT='Plant') & (L='Plants Bed Left') & ('Landscape Area'.'Instance Name'='Group-1'))) It's fairly basic but I must be missing somthing that is probably simple! If I remove the last condition it works but returns all instances (as expected). Quotation placement does not seem to make any difference i.e. using 'Landscape.Instance Name' and anyway I used the Edit Criteria to generate the formula so VW created it. All comments welcome! -
We'd like to sum our estimated cable length in a report. I seem to be able to sum "spreadsheet" values, but not "database" values When I tried to sum a cell it only sees the whole integer example summing database rows H2.1 through H2.23 will show as =sum(H2..H2) and report #Value! of course if I sum spreadsheet rows H2 through h44 =sum(h2..h44) is works with no errors There is a built-in sum values filter but, I don't see where the sum is posted. note: in the same column I do have record that report -- as their droppoints have not been placed on the plan design layer yet.

Hi everyone, I’ve created a report in Vectorworks that lists objects based on a record format. I’d like to add an incremental number column (like 1, 2, 3, 4...) so each reported object has its own unique sequence number in the worksheet. Is there a way to generate this automatically within the worksheet formula, or do I have to assign it manually? Any tips or formula examples would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

After spending way too much time rebuilding my custom workspace from scratch (because of constant crashes that appear to be related to the workspace), I came up with the following wishlist items. I'm working in VW Architect 2020 with Mac OS 15.4 with an Apple extended keyboard (includes numeric keypad). I started by duplicating the default Architect-BIM workspace and editing it: ⌘-1& ⌘-2 are reserved for zoom in/out x2. This function is also available by double clicking the tool or key. Allow for other uses of ⌘-1& ⌘-2. Many items are shown as Reserved by MacOS in the VW 2020 keyboard shortcuts PDF, but most can be disabled for use by VW in Mac's System Settings->Keyboard->Shortcuts. Allow for VW use if turned off in system. Allow use of Function Keys F14-F19 Cloud menu-> "Settings..." should be renamed "Cloud Settings..." to allow for unambiguous placement in another menu (e.g. creating a Settings menu that has all VW & document settings in one place). Allow changes to Vectorworks menu for removal of "Customize Touch Bar" & change of ⌘-,(comma) VW Preferences command for other uses. Provide documentation for adding Tool Set icons, required image formats/size, and where should they be stored. Also, can we access existing GUI icons? Rearrange snap palette in 2 row layout to correspond to the default keyboard layout. Change tool key defaults to better represent current (3D-BIM) workflows - e.g. no need for 2D polygon & 2D polyline to both have key shortcuts, while 3D polygon does not. EDITED: Remove unlicensed tools from workspace editor, per the matrix at http://app-help.vectorworks.net/2021/eng/Commands_Tools2021.pdf Move all legacy tools & commands out of the "All Tools" and "All Menus" lists (into separate folders if needed) to prevent unintentional addition to Workspace. EDIT: See other option in item #12 below. There are a lot of tools & that are not noted as "legacy" but that appear to be on their way out. Many appear to duplicate other tools. Please provide a list of which tools are to be used for "best practices" with an eye to moving forward to future releases. Move as many as possible to "legacy" status. Some examples are: Hardware found in "Detailing" vs "Fasteners" vs " Hardware". "Bolt & Nut" vs "Screw & Nut" vs individual items. Roadway options Custom Cabinet vs Base Cabinet+Wall Cabinet + ... Handrail vs Railing/Fence Framing Member vs Structural Member Stair vs Simple Stair Other? EDIT: Added for 2021: 12. 2021 added "(legacy)" to the names of most of the latest legacy tools. This is great. Please add to all legacy tools/commands so they are evident in the "all tools" and "all commands" lists. 13. Add filtering/search to workspace editor I also found the following bugs that I submitted via http://www.vectorworks.net/support/bugsubmit: When assigning a tool key for a numeral, if it is entered via the numeric keypad, it overwrites the Standard View assigned to that numeral. If the numeral is entered via the numerals above the letters, the Standard Views are unchanged. Tool Palettes from VW preinstalled workspaces can't be renamed Tools & Commands for unlicensed products should not appear in the Workspace Editor - e.g. "Foliage" (Landmark) & "Manage Loads" (Spotlight) are available in Architect If you drag a set of nested tools into a different set of nested tools, only the "top" tool is brought into the set and the others disappear. This behavior is unexpected. An error notice should appear, and only single tools should be allowed to be dragged into a nested tool set.

Is there anyway that a viewport could be locked to an object instance instead of a drawing position? Example: I regularly do speaker layouts and want to be able to include detail views of the speakers and their mounting details etc. but is these move during the course of the project I have to spend ages re-aligning all of my viewports.

Hi I have used the split tool to create an angled end on a wall, as suggested elsewhere on the forum. The $64000 question is, how do I remove that split, and restore the wall to have a normal end? I need to redo the split as the angle has changed. Kind regards Mike

I have created my own worksheet that calculates areas from different objects. The worksheet is working fine and does what it is supposed to, but when I place the worksheet on a sheet layer and export it to a PDF-file, the values changes! They are divided by 1000...! Except the value that is below 1000! Have anyone seen this before? I have filed a bug-report about it.

Wishlist; copy and paste wall components
Marnix Kasper posted a question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
When editing wall styles, I regularly need to make the same adaptations to different wall styles. Sometimes it's just a change in thickness, sometimes it's adding i.e. insulation with finishing on the inside. How great would it be if there would be some checkboxes near the components and two buttons 'copy' and 'paste'. In that way you'd have to make your change only once, and the rest is copy/paste. -
Hi all, I'm creating data labels to annotate the different materials used in floor and wall components. In a worksheet, I also want to retrieve the quantities of these components by searching for the material associated with each component. Using a Data tag with: =CONCAT(FIRSTNONEMPTY(MATERIALNAME; 'N/A'); ' : '; OBJECTDATA('component'; 'Thickness'); 'mm'), I've noticed that materials are displayed twice when a part is deduced with a modeler, do you know why? I could select "Group" for this case, but then the display for my other composition, which contains two layers of glass wool of different thicknesses, would be incorrect. For the label, I want to use the same label for these different layers. I solved the problem using the formula below, on a line: #WS_IF((COMPONENTNAME(1)=''); ''; CONCAT(COMPONENTMATERIAL(1); ' : '; COMPONENTTHICKNESS(1); ' mm'))# #WS_IF((COMPONENTNAME(2)=''); ''; CONCAT(CHAR(13); CONCAT(COMPONENTMATERIAL(2); ' : '; COMPONENTTHICKNESS(2); ' mm')))# #WS_IF((COMPONENTNAME(3)=''); ''; CONCAT(CHAR(13); CONCAT(COMPONENTMATERIAL(3); ' : '; COMPONENTTHICKNESS(3); ' mm')))# with the number of components I need. How would you advise me to proceed in the table so as not to have these quantities duplicated? Perhaps this is the same reason why the quantities are duplicated in the table when searching for MaterialName? Thank you for your advice and have a good day. Hello everybody I would like to create a "dynamic" Popup Node, which uses Content of a Worksheet. It works pretty good, but its not refreshing the Popup-List in the OIP, but the output content is the correct one. So i guess I have to delete the cache of the node or something like that. Is there a way to do so? The Script in the Node: #gim 2020-11-20 @Marionette.NodeDefinition class Params(metaclass = Marionette.OrderedClass): #APPEARANCE tabname = 'Spot Standard' #Name der Tabelle tab = vs.GetObject(tabname) #Handle zur Tabelle (numRows, numColumns) = vs.GetWSRowColumnCount(tab) #Zählt die Anzahl Zeilen und Spalten def frange(x, y, jump): #x entspricht der Startzeile in der Tabelle, y der letzten Zeile, jump ist die Schrittgrösse while x - y <= .000001: yield x x += jump list = [] list = [n for n in frange(2, numRows, 1)] #erstellt eine Liste, welche Zeilen aus der Tabelle ausgewählt werden sollen Artikelbeschriebe = [] Artikelnummern = [] for i in range(len(list)): Artikelbeschriebe.append(vs.GetWSCellFormulaN(tab, list[i], 1)) #Die Beschriebe sind in der ersten Spalte Artikelnummern.append(vs.GetWSCellFormulaN(tab, list[i], 2)) #Die Nummern sind in der zweiten Spalte #Name this = Marionette.Node( 'Popup' ) this.SetDescription('Zeigt ein PopUp mit den Werten aus der Tabelle "Spot Standard" und gibt Name und Artikelnummer weiter') #Input Ports #OIP Controls input = Marionette.OIPControl( 'Popup', Marionette.WidgetType.Popup, 0, Artikelbeschriebe) input.SetDescription('Die Auswahl aus der Tabelle "Spot Standard", Spalte 1') #Output Ports outputs = Marionette.PortOut('sArtikel') outputs.SetDescription('Artikelbeschrieb') outputn = Marionette.PortOut('nArtikel') outputn.SetDescription('Artikelnummer') #BEHAVIOR def RunNode(self): #inputs input = self.Params.input.value #Integer der Auswahl Artb = self.Params.Artikelbeschriebe Artn = self.Params.Artikelnummern #script outputs = Artb[input] outputn = Artn[input] #Aktualisierung der Wertetabelle tabname = 'Spot Standard' #Name der Tabelle tab = vs.GetObject(tabname) #Handle zur Tabelle (numRows, numColumns) = vs.GetWSRowColumnCount(tab) #Zählt die Anzahl Zeilen und Spalten def frange(x, y, jump): #x entspricht der Startzeile in der Tabelle, y der letzten Zeile, jump ist die Schrittgrösse while x - y <= .000001: yield x x += jump list = [] list = [n for n in frange(2, numRows, 1)] #erstellt eine Liste, welche Zeilen aus der Tabelle ausgewählt werden sollen Artikelbeschriebe = [] Artikelnummern = [] for i in range(len(list)): Artikelbeschriebe.append(vs.GetWSCellFormulaN(tab, list[i], 1)) #Die Beschriebe sind in der ersten Spalte Artikelnummern.append(vs.GetWSCellFormulaN(tab, list[i], 2)) #Die Nummern sind in der zweiten Spalte #outputs self.Params.input.value = Artikelbeschriebe self.Params.outputs.value = outputs self.Params.outputn.value = outputn Popup mit Werten aus Tabelle_2020-11-21.vwx

Worksheet Conditional Cell/Row Formatting
Schnoibie005 posted a question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
The ability to color code worksheet cells based on text contents would be amazing, especially with database reports. The example in my case would be things like color coding the worksheet cells or rows by lighting device positions, but I could see this being useful for many reasons. -
We have 190 Vectorworks user within our company (and growing rapidly). Wishlist of things we think are pretty essential below... - Graphic of snap/line control points for polylines/polygons Different colour/shapes for different control points - ACad does this really well. VWX recognises the points as different items so they need displaying as different snap points - Character text/style in title blocks Ability to assign set text styles (eg bold/underlined) to a single data field in a title block. Currently you can do this in the title block layout view, but it defaults back to either all nothing when you exit the the title block layout - UK English dictionary should be built in option from the start I shouldn't have to find an English language dictionary and load into plug-ins per user- should just be an option to tick in the user preferences. VWX should ship with a UK spell checker choice from the outset - Layers to be geo-ref'd by default Option in user preferences for all new layers a user creates to be geo-referenced from their creation - Hatch background opacity control I don't always want a hatch to have a solid fill 100% opaque background, the opacity of this needs to be controllable separate to the main hatch lines - Property line ability for text/area etc generated to be assigned to a class - don't always want the text to be in the same transparency as the property line

When I option-drag an object, the name of this object is copied as well. For example an object titled square-1 will be named square-2. But when I use the move-tool, with the duplicate function enabled, the names are not copied. The copies don't get any names at all. Could this feature be added to the move tool as well? It saves me quite some work. Thanks in advance, Marnix

Wishlist: "Non-printing" classes
ArchiRes posted a question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
The closest Vectorworks gets at the moment is the ability to turn off classes that you don't want to print but that's clunky and inefficient. I'd love the ability to set a class to be non-printing, visible on Vectorworks (like with guide lines) but do not print like so many other programs have. -
How many times have you wished you could import shortcuts from another workspace? Matching a custom workspace is quite a time-consuming process. In addition to the 'Export' button, it would be great to have an 'Import' button, to either create a new workspace based on the tools, commands, and shortcuts of an existing workspace (e.g. when migrating from one version of Vectorworks to another since historic workspaces tend to cause issues), or simply the shortcuts to map any changes in shortcut in a custom workspace to another.

I'm trying to create a worksheet that reports all the printed graphics in an exhibition. I have a custom PIO to represent a graphic surface that includes the title, output method, dimensions, etc. Those graphics are reporting how I'd like. However, we frequently have repeating elements in a show such as object labels or stanchions. I would like to have the custom PIO as part of that symbol, but still be able to give each its own code and title. I've done that with my data tags by attaching an additional record to each symbol, but I'm having trouble figuring out a way to report it on the schedule. I tried having the "Component Code" and "Working Title" columns populated via script, but can't get the correct handle of the symbol instance with the record attached (every symbol instance shares the same handle). I could have the PIO simply grouped with the stanchion symbol, but then I'd need to manually adjust each one if the size or output method changes. Hopefully the screenshot below and attached .vwx explains what I'm trying to get at. Any thoughts on the worksheet, or suggestions on a different approach? Thanks! graphic test v2025.vwx

I'm hoping that this is just something simple that I'm missing but everytime I run a Current Layer Device Report the "Weight" column is always showing Kg instead of Lbs. I have my preferences set to Imperial/Lbs in File>Document Settings>Units as well as in Spotlight>ConnectCAD Settings>General Settings. When I look at the criteria for the "Weight" column on the worksheet, I can't find any adjustments that would switch between the two standards. What am I missing? Or is this a bug? I can provide screenshots but I don't think there's much value in that as it's just numerical values.

When creating large/long sections, for example from roadworks or some stretched terrain, it would be awesome if you could adjust the width and height scale of the viewport independently. I'd like to refer to the oldschool sections, where the height is 10-fold of the length, to be able to read small differences in height.

Hi, I am looking for some help creating a set of workable and and easy to use worksheets. We have used them in the past with mixed results. I would like something easy to use and edit that can produce symbol schedules (done this with mixed results), measures floor areas by class, door schedules, wall finish schedules by area - tiles/wallpaper/paint etc I am not looking for tutorial on what VWX can do. I want it set up to my brief and then taught how to use it. Can anyone help or point me in the roght direction? Regards Mark
