Hello, We are using the American version of VW (so without dongles). We have about 10-15 people working with VW, in one network. The last two months Vectorworks has been running very slow at some times. For one or two hours all the users encounter the same problem: after 10 seconds drawing VW is stuck for around 15-20 seconds, and sofort. Very frustrating. It just stoppes everything, all we can do is wait. After one or two hours the problem disappears without particular reason, to return later without a clear reason. It has been going on for the last two months (only with VW), and seems to increase the last weeks to two-three times a day. Can someone help us out? Steven van Kooten KCAP - Rotterdam

We are searching advise for an anomaly leading to extremely slow "save" when saving VW files to a Window 2003 server. The save action will take about 1 minute each 10 MB. This occurs only on "Save", but NOT on "Save as", IF the file thus created is new. If the file overwrites, then it's slow. If it doesn't overwrite is extremely fast. We tend to believe that the slow down occurs upon trying to delete the temp-file created by VW. Perhaps this deletion is delayed for some reason by the server. A time out to be waited for? The issue won't occur upon saving PDF, Photoshop files, no matter how large. But it seems to occur in minor extent upon saving Illustrator files or excel files. The network is Gigabit fast. The clients are either WinXP or Win7. Both show the same identical issue. * we excluded any interference with virus scanner, * tested all permissions, both server-side and client-side * changed all ethernet cables, * changed network card, * added a second network card, * changed the switch, * excluded all clients (20 incl. printers, fax....) re-adding them one by one. * removed all hard disks but the main one and re-added them, * disabled indexing on the involved folders * disabled shadow copies on the server + a number of things that our PC admin did, and I don't know what it was. Please don't tell me upgrade to Mac. I know. I believe that we could have bought many many Mac servers with the money we spent in fixing all issues that these Win server had and will always have. orso

I've followed the discussion on slow performance in Mac OSX - I'm also suffering since upgrading to 10.3. Re-draw is painfully slow, the flyover and translate view tools (I use these more frequently than almost any others) are almost impossible to use, rendering times are glacial. I've got a G4/533 with 1.25gb ram VW 10.5.1 + Renderworks Mac OS 10.3.4 I've run Disk Utility and Norton Speed Disk - Norton Anti Virus hasn't detected anything unpleasant. Any ideas? I'm desparate to get on with some work!

One of my responsibilities is to make sure that our printers are working as intended, but I do not work with VectorWorks on daily basis, so this might be an easy question, but I havent been able to look it up myself. We have 2 different kind of users, VectorWorks and VWviewers. On some drawings printing in VWviewer (regular A3 and 2Ddrawings) can take up to 4mins to print, were the same drawings only take 10secs in VW. I've tried to install VWviewer on a regular pc with WinXP but this one works without any delay The only difference is that VWviewer users are using HP Color laserjet 5500 PCL6 we're as VW users are using Canon IR5500. Obvious the problem is proberly the printer, however whenever the slow printing occours the PDF Creator is also terrible slow. Is there any settings that I can adjust to make printing faster? VectorWorks 2009 SP2 build 99197 thanks in advance.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced slow zooming using a mouse wheel? It doesn't happen often, but once in a while something changes in a file, and causes slow zooms (slow to regenerate the drawing - things are missing and blurry, and then generate properly, but with a delay). Usually I just copy my work to another file and carry-on, but this time I have too many sheets and viewports for this to be feasible. There must be a setting somewhere causing slow regen times. Any suggestions? Thanks Ken VW2008, SP2, Macbook Pro, Leopard

So I have some slow files that I'm dealing with and I'm trying to identify what is making them slow. This is not the first time this has happened to me. The use of design layer viewports and the import of 2D geometry from AutoCAD are the two consistent items in all the drawings. They are all 2D only drawing. I typically import the AutoCAD files to separate VW files. Then I open those files as required and copy and paste that geometry to a layer in my main VW drawing. I use these as my backgrounds. I use one layer as my background layer. I then create other layers as required and use DLVP to show that background geometry and then draw on it. I then create sheet layers for printing and they would of course have viewports to the layers that I have drawn on. Any ideas? Thanks!

I'm trying out the 30 day evaluation of 2011. I've opened one of our big site plan files, originally drawing in version 12.5 to see how it handles it. The answer seems to be....very poorly indeed. This is a big file...55Mb, but version 2008 handled it fine, actually quite zippy. With version 2011 it is practically unusable...it literally takes about 2 minutes just to switch between sheet layers. I can understand that 2011 is optimised to work with objects created by itself, but if we can't work on our current project files, we simply can't upgrade. Anyone else having problems?

Hi, we have a new PC with Intel Core2 Quad 4GB Ram and Nvidia 9400GT with Windows7 64bit installed. When trying to change colors of an Object in Vectorworks 2009 the Color Palette opens very slow. It needs about a second. This is very annoying, cause I have to change colors often. The latest graphic driver is installed. Can someone help me on this, thanks produkteam

Hello Just received my copy of VW 2009, installed it, updated it, opened a VW2008 drawing... I'm concerned by how slow the redraw is when zooming in and out - it seems to take far longer to 'ping' to a clean image than earlier versions - maybe a second or so to go from pixelated to a proper image. I'm running a MBP 2.4 with 4GB RAM and a 256MB Graphics card (GeForce 8600M GT). I've tried running that script for MBPs, turning off Quartz, anti-aliasing etc. Line thicknesses are not on, etc. Is there any way to get VW2009 to redraw any quicker - I've run VW2008 on the same machine and it was nowhere near as slow to redraw when zooming as 2009 is. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Zooming is slow and chopy. no matter what rotation is used. When rotation is set to other than 0? and zoomed in more than 75000% objects disappear. VW crashes when zooming "too fast". I did not notice this before sp1. Thanks, Marc

I'm currently batch converting a large number of drawings. When I started it it ran through the drawings relatively quickly, other than periodically making me click OK. When it was done, it started going through the drawings again with no cancel button. Only this time it's going very slow, in fact from 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM Today it went through a whopping 32 drawings. It doesn't seem to be modifying them in any way, and they've already been converted to 2010. So my question is, what is this second pass doing? If I let people work on these drawings will their work be overwritten? Can I just force quit the Application?

Hey, Vectorworks 2009 is taking forever to update drawings when I change info in the Obj Info Window. I'm talking minutes to change the Circuit Name on half a dozen fixtures. My drawing is linked to an XML file for LW exchange. I'm running Mac Snow Leopard. The show is medium sized about 450 items per LW. Any thoughts?

I am working on a file with about 180 Space objects. Whenever I manipulate a Space (eg moving or resizing it) there is a delay of about ten seconds. This naturally makes doing quick schematic layouts a pretty excruciating experience. It seems to be related to the large number of Spaces--but if one is working on a building with a large program this is inevitable. Is there a way to speed this up eg by turning off some settings?

I am working on a small light plot. Less than a 100 lights and total file size under 5 MB. Just started using 2010. Updated to SP3 on Windows XP. When I open label legend manager and make a change it takes 5-7 seconds for the box to close. In 2008 it took less than a second. Anyone else seeing this?

Hi I am working in VW 2009 w/ Landmark on a file approx 7MB in size. When I change the font of a plant grouping the change can take 10 - 15 minutes. The same happens if I place a large irregular group of plants using either triangular or square spacing. I have a brand new quad core 27" iMac 2.8ghz with 8 gig of RAM so I am reasonably certain it isn't a lack of computing power. Am I missing an obvious setting or preference? Thanks Eric

Anybody else having a problem w/ instruments taking a very long time to nudge (Shift+Command+Arrow) or respond to changes in position entered into the OIP? Other objects respond instantly, but instruments have a very noticeable lag. Groups of instruments have an extremely long lag. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated... michaelk

I have been working on a project that requires importing a bunch of pdf's from other design firms. VW becomes extremely slow when I add these to my design layers. Is there something I can do to speed things up? Would it help to put pdf's on other layers in an invisible class while I'm working in a different design layer? I'm downloading SP4 now... maybe that will help.

I am having problems with very sluggish performance when printing out from VW2008 to my Brother DCP6690CW A3 printer. It takes minutes to do one print. If I convert the files to PDFs they print out quickly but the problem with printing PDFs is that they don't print exactly to scale and also the patterns and hatche don't print out correctly. Has anyone else had this problem? AJ

I am using VW 12.5.2(71041) on Mac OS 10.4.11 My application slows down after about 5 hours of use. So in the morning it is at a certain speed. But it becomes slow (refreshing and zooming), sometimes mouse clicks are slow to arrive the screen. The activity Monitor shows: Real Memory 440, Threads 14 at the end of he day. In the morning Activity Monitor shows:Real memory:197, threads 9 or 4 . My computer is on a network and multiple users log on and connect to it, but they don't use the files directly from my computer, they may read only or copy but not write to it. Any ideas on how to speed up the application? Thank you.

I have reported this as a bug but I really need a work-around until it is fixed. In VW12 & VW2009 I can print one of my standard drawings in 5 - 7 sec but in VW2010, the same drawing takes 30 - 50 sec This would not be a great problem if I was only printing one a day but I am printing upto 100 per day so that's over an hour of my day printing. Printing to .pdf takes just as long. I was going to write a script to export the file to VW2009 but there is no DoMenuByText ('Export to Vectorworks 2009 File...',0) and I can't add a keyboard shortcut to that menu item. Has anyone else noticed a big difference and can anyone offer any other ideas?

I had this problem with VW 2009 and let it go (never used it) but I really want to make VW 2010 my go-to CAD program. I've been working with Tech Support for a couple of weeks without improvement. I've: Changed video cards; nvidia and ATI with newest drivers. updated QT and DirectX. Ran VW in safe mode, modified msconfig as directed and killed every process in Task Manager. Changed video acceleration, resolution and color depth. Changed highlighting, GDI and etc. Checked for virus and windows updates. Removed extra ram. changed mother board and processor. Tried four different mice, no drawing pad. The only constant has been my hard drive which has too many older and upgraded programs to allow me to run a new clean installed XP Pro. AuotCAD 3D and image drawing programs work fine. Mouse pointer moves fine everywhere but things are sluggish only in the drawing area. Nothing has made any noticeable difference. Help! Any suggestions? AMD II x2 550 NVidia GTX 260 4G ram ~750G harddrive Windows XP Pro SP3 24" 1900 x 1080 LCD display

I am starting my first real project with VWArch 2009 and I am bothered by how slow all the settings dialogs are. I am setting up my classes and layers etc, creating a couple of hatches and I end up waiting longer for the the pinwheel and watch cursor to go away than I do actually changing settings or creating a hatch. I guess it is saving settings but this is nuts. I don't think it was this bad before I installed service pack 2. Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi, We've been using VW2008 for a little while now (we were on 11 before) and I am finding that when I set up a drawing with several viewports on one sheet layer, it is quite slow to redraw everything when I move in and out of the sheet layer. For example, if I double-click on the viewport and go into the design layer, then use the "Return to Viewport" yellow button in the top RH corner, it returns me to the sheet layer but it takes about 1 or 2 seconds to redraw everything on the screen before I can do anything. Same if I go in to edit annotations and then come back to the sheet layout. This might seem like a minor thing but it becomes quite irritating at the stage where I'm getting a layout set up on a page and I need to do lots of little changes to things in different viewports. Does anyone else have this problem or is there anything I can do about it? I'm on a Mac: OS 10.4.11 Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM
