  1. This forum looked like a good place to present our question. We have been using a shared server location to centralize our Vectorworks 2008 standards. Generally we are please with the results. The key features have been a centralized symbols library, centralized template files, works cross platform, and centralized control over line weights, dash styles etc. Another firm we work with chooses to develop a standard set, then copy this folder to everyone's machines. This doesn't make sense for us because we would like continuously improve things like our symbols libraries and templates. We don't like how the preferences revert back to the desktops if the local user doesn't have the server linked. We try to set up the machines, but inevitably someone boots up the program without thinking about the server first. . . . . I would also prefer to see Workspaces stored on a local level. Ideally we would have control over which features are local vs. central, and a warning if the remote preferences are not available. Now we have purchased 2009 and would like to migrate our standards. Does anyone have a procedure for doing this? I would like to avoid recreating this work?
  2. Bruce, We have a similar problem in our office. In an attempt to use the server to set up standards, we have directed the User Data and Preference Folder to a location on our server. This is good for our symbols libraries and master templates, but its also storing everyone's workspaces in one place. In the morning when you open Vectorworks you inevitably get the workspace of the last user to use the program. To restore, we simply reselect our personal workspace, then we're good. Until we figured out the solution it was really frustrating though. Some office's prefer to have one workspace, but we prefer to let everyone make their workspace suit their needs and level of skill. Hope this helps.
  3. We have been shifting over to centralized standards in our office through the use of a server based User Data and Preferences Folder. Now when I go to older drawings, callouts with a box around my notes are immediately shrunk if I try to manipulate the callout. I can duplicate a call out without altering its appearance, but adjusting the text or moving the leader causes the text box to shrink by about 50%. I can open the same files at home on a Mac that doesn't point to the central Preferences Folder and the tool retains its functionality. I fiddled with all the settings in the Object info box, but no luck. Before the callout resizes, it has manipulation points on both ends of the box, but after it changes one is at the shoulder and the other is out beyond the box. How can I fix this?
