  1. I guess I am completely confused now, I have been using viewports uniquely in Sheet Layers but I notice that you can also create viewports in Design Layers. Can someone please explain to me what are the plus and minus of doing it one way vs. the other? Thank you so much
  2. got it Jonathan, thanks. My next question is whether or not one must keep that new design layer section viewport as the sole drawing on that layer?
  3. Thank you Jonathan, I looked at the video and tried to implement, still not sure how stable this solution is with respect to maintaining the cut location. It seems as if the clip cube goes away if I turn it off to keep working. Does this method work for just production of an image, jpeg or else.? Anyway right now my computer froze while doing a section viewport with that method. Frustrating since the file is 60 megs.
  4. Trying to develop efficient workflow for architecture drawings development. Looking at Nick Sonders book based on sketchup/layout workflow which I used and found efficient, I was wandering if anyone develops VW based drawings from a 3D model refererenced into multiple files for each sheet of aCD set. It looked to me, coming from VW, that VW has reporting and BIM abilities not found in sketchup and decided to stay with VW. I was wandering if anyone breaks down drawing sets in independent sheets/files and if by doing so one does loose some of this BIM abilities. Do you design everything in one file? Do you have 20 classes or 50+?
  5. is IFC data also being reported this way?
  6. Is it possible to create views with a model cut with clip cubes while having other viewports showing complete models? I have elevations viewports in OpenGL (rendering for clip cubes) and details in 3d that I would like to isolate using the clip cube. If I leave the clip cube option on then both viewports will show clipped views of the model and the detail. Is is possible to avoid this "overall " effect. Thank you
  7. I guess VW creates an XML database, what is that exactly?
  8. What file type do i need to create to write down a general note that I can use in vectorworks? I am trying to create a spec sheet that I can reuse in VW from a manufacturer website but my .txt file is not recognized by VW. Is it the file extension that is the problem?
  9. I find myself designing a lot in 3D and spent quite a large amount of time creating walls, slabs with fills and textures that are usable in 3D and 2D sections and render good in OpenGL for presentation in axon and with cut planes. I realize though that 2D is just really much faster to setup the detail assemblies. The question is whether at this point there is a need to include both in construction docs. I think if one was able to freeze its details so that they are always the same, one could use a symbol system. It seems to me that this is the golden goose. I for myself do mostly residential work in a unique area and this should be possible.
  10. Is it possible to subtract one solid from multiple solids at the same time?
  11. Can you please allow repetitive push pull with previous amount so as not to have to pull for the same amount multiple times? thx
  12. Let me see if I understand how you update the drawing, is by reloading the symbol from the original file?
  13. Great that makes sense. Thank you very much. Really appreciate it, Best CF
  14. Thanks Eric for your insight and taking time to respond, it makes sense and seems the easiest to implement. My only question has to do with the reference workflow here. What exactly do you mean by the L-Details file, is it a separate detail file or is it part of one complete file for the project you work on. In other words do you create separate file for every sheet of your CD package?
  15. I am dealing with a workflow issue regarding the drawing of construction details. I am trying to solve maybe too many issues at once and I may have to make a choice on which is most important. I am trying to create a variety of details for residential construction, here are the issues: Whether to create 3D(part of the building model or separate of) versus 2D details If using 2D, do I annotate the design layer or the Viewport annotation layer How do I create a reusable set of construction details, should I include the notes in my symbols? I usually ending up doing all of the above which is very time consuming, How do you do it?
  16. Is there a way to have VW provide the volume of an excavation created using an extrude along path ?
  17. @zoomer I have been toiling with levels and stories for this simple bungalow that i am designing but it is not that simple. in particular where the bottom of walls and doors is located. IT IS quite challenging for me. Can you explain the best workflow to make sure the wall is sitting on a subfloor while the door opening starts on the finish floor? Thank you that will be a great help if I can figure this out. BEst CF
  18. what about creating a marionette script, can't you create these constraints there?
  19. You could organize the house types on separate files and load them as symbols so that you can save space and update all of them at once but I would keep the site plan separate, these tend to be heavy.
  20. This is a long discussion, I work in 3D and try to create BIM reports from the model. Details are created and annotated on viewports from the model. Suggestion: go to the vectorworks Youtube channel there is a lot of videos on this, good luck
