  1. Hello, hope everyone is doing good today, beautiful weather in NY, not too hot, not too humid. I had a question regarding the export image file process. It does not save the file but rather comes back to the export image file window so that it never end up saving the image. Kind of annoying and useless... Any idea? Thank you all
  2. Is there one or a switch to turn a layer off by cliking on an item on that class?
  3. Thank you everyone for answering, I should know that by now...I guess I can blame with my working on too many design platforms but my memory is also to blame.. Anyway, thanks again
  4. Is there a way to keep track of whether my question was answered? does one need to keep the topic in the watched topics?
  5. How do you draw a curve that is tangent to two concentric circles?
  6. Is there a macro that allows to switch the option on or off in the Preference Menu? It would be so much easier than to have to go in the menu.... Thanks in advance
  7. I was not able to do that so I changed my modeling to just regular extrudes. My question is how do you modify a push/pull volume? Example: A cube with a 45d cut corner. Is is possible to just trace a line on top of the cube and to pull down the triangle to remove? A bit like sketchup if you will.
  8. I do not want to use parametrics but would rather design with extrudes. I cannot subtract from a volume another volume. One is an extrude along path and the other is a cube. Am I doing something wrong, which command should I use?
  9. I have an extrude along path for walls and I would like to open windows in this solid. I CANNOT subtract from the walls with the extrude command and the solib subtract refuses to work with a extrude along path volume Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks
  10. I would also create a design layer for the detail drawing. Then create a viewport of that drawing that would be place on the sheetlayer with your plan at the scale that you need and in which I would add all relevant notes. Materials could be separated by classes or all on the same class with different fill, textures etc... There is option there, I like to separate the materials in a master class with different classes for each. That allows me to have consistency throughout the drawing in how things are shown. Hope that helps
  11. Thank you, this makes a lot of sense. I understand that i cannot use a hatch on a 3d model unless i make it a texture and render it with a fill. In other words, if i want to add let's say 6" tiles to a wall (i.e. bathroom) then I need to create a 2D poly oriented as needed. Thanks
  12. Got it, I just needed to create a Detail Viewport not a section viewport.
  13. Trying to create a section detail linked to a section viewport, I get this message http://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=download&Number=9080&filename=Screen%20Shot%202013-05-22%20at%2015.39.25.png What am I doing wrong? Please advise Thank you BL
  14. Thank you Benson for your answer. I will have to take time and read over it, lots in there. My latest problem came with an exterior wall that was just framing and siding. I wanted to show the framing (from framer, not part of the "wall object") instead of the wall fill, render the core of the wall object transparent and show only the siding part of the wall object. Could not do it, had to draw the siding by itself. The image below does not show the studs hidden by the wall core. Is there another way?
  15. Can someone explain to me the difference between fills, textures, images and how to best use them for architecture drawings. I am confused and always surprised as to how things show depending on the rendering mode. Thank you very much BL
  16. Pete, My file is 63 Mb so I don't think that I can put it on this forum. I can share it with you on google drive if you give me your email. That would be great. Best CF
  17. Can someone advise me how to organize, format, breakdown, or else, a house drawing file with 2 levels so that it does not take 10 mn to render a perspective in hidden line mode? I would really appreciate that. All my settings are low, antialiasing etc... as suggested on the knowledge base section. I can;t believe how long it takes on a macbook pro to render a simple kitchen view, no light yet! Thanks
  18. I am with you, literally. I spent all last night on a few renderings. Here is my experience with vectorworks cloud rendering service and then a couple of questions. 1/ Cloud service is ok. I had a couple of miss with the same file and an ok earlier. I think it has to do with the type of rendering and the setup of your file. In my case I had maybe 20-25 viewports to render and the VW cloud was not able to do it. Again I think it was more my setup but who knows? 2/Viewport rendering issues: - There is a background rendering and a foreground rendering. The foreground render will move from viewport to viewport rather quickly, the background rendering will continue to process while you can get back to work. 3/My question is rather annoyingly simple but got me into a real funk last night, here it is: The background render has all kind of rendering options, one being the hidden line option. It is also much slower than the foreground rendering which does not have all the render options. It does NOT have the NONE option though and requires therefore the use of a render mode which is generally quite slow. On the other hand the foreground rendering has a NONE option. I needed to render in regular black and white line work for architecture drawings but could not use only the foreground render because the background render must have a selection also. WHY? it takes so long to render! In general I think that VW is way to slow for any kind of real life architecture rendering work. Unless maybe you reduce your files to one room at a time like in all the examples that you can see online. I tried to render a kitchen with tables and chairs, cabinets walls and windows as part of the whole house design file and I have to force quit, it takes way to long. I don't think it;s practicle to break down the drawing each and everytime you need a rendering, it will take as much time than to let the process finish in the full set. What do you do when you need rendering of each and every room? Is this not feasible? Every video online leads to believe that this should be possible. Am I the only one to believe this? I would really appreciate some suggestion on this. I would hope that VW would actually explain this point. Good luck to you CF
  19. What type of objects do you apply the tiles to? Do you draw in 2D or 3D?
  20. I reinstalled VW, was able to open an earlier version of the file but after saving a few times and closing the program, the same thing happened all over again. Cannot open my file and crashes on VW startup. I had setup VW to reopen the previous file automatically and therefore I am on a loop. Stuck without being able to work. What a major PAIN that is
  21. It did it again, damit! Crashed after rendering on OPEN GL !!!!!!!
  22. Thank you very much, that worked great, was able to import most of the information back.
