  1. Here is a reason when to use Rendering Style over Custom Renderworks. In this illustration for the faucets to stand out, to pop and make them look shiny and with volume, I needed to add an environmental reflection. That background feature is only possible with rendering styles. So it is a matter of knowing the limitations of each rendering mode.
  2. When I created the 3D promotional video, it was mainly to give a quick overview of tools available for different challenges in a project in only a few min. I believe next move will be to explain step by step how to approach certain sections. Do you have suggestions on what parts we can dig deeper? Open to ideas.
  3. Hello rendering addicts. Creating renderings with a void background maybe something graphic designer may take for granted but this new import and export feature opened the door to a vast array of possibilities. Here is a sample I wanted to share. The front is a static rendering image of our Hive project, exported as a .png with alpha channel, then sent to a video editing software, added a motion background, some sound effect and I finished with a smile. I am curious to see what else we can come up with to improve our daily presentations. Alpha_Channel_model.mp4
  4. I'll make a recommendation here. For many rendering projects I keep producing and improving styles since each presents different settings I need, not just quality but backgrounds, artistic edges, camera effects, environmental reflections, number of bounces, light intensity, grass, displacement mapping, etc. All of those I keep track of saving them in a favorites file, same for backgrounds. Here you have a couple of samples, one made with an artistic style, notice the thin edges and the other one a bit more real, including some camera effects.
  5. This was an interesting project to reproduce. I learned that everything in it has a purpose or is aligned to other element and definitely all views and light respond to a strategy, nothing random about it. Here are a few views of the model and some other while I was in "action":
  6. v2015 is here. https://beta.vcs.vectorworks.net/portal/link/714bdc08-9915-11e5-a099-1254629aa003/
  7. I took the time to develop a sample file using 2016 rendering techniques. Please download the final render and sample file from this cloud link. https://beta.vcs.vectorworks.net/portal/link/e1c851d0-9877-11e5-a099-1254629aa003/
  8. Why settle for buildings when we can marionette wolves?
  9. Sarah. This new slice wrappers are so much fun! Here is the application over a a few metal spheres.
  10. How to slice solids. For years and years slicing mass models was a tedious process. You’d be surprise how this wrapper makes life so much easier. Open the file and when you take a look at the network inside pay attention to the name of the solid, that is the key, yes, in order to interact with objects on your layers you’ll need to name them. Open this file, use the saved views for easier navigation and run the marionette wrapper, you’ll end up smiling.
  11. This Marionette Trophy is credited to Sarah Barret, I am just a padawan.
  12. With the experience of the previous files, understanding how things get put together in 3d just got a bit more familiar, take a look.
  13. My first attempts were all 2d based, nothing great, just crawling before walking. Here is a list of files.
  14. Now that graphical scripting is a reality in Vectorworks software, my designing spirit has been fantasizing about many forms and shapes. I’ve been clicking the mouse for over 20 years and feel like our software is like an extension of my drafting board, but I recently learned that Marionette requires a different but exciting approach. Graphical scripting to me is a form of exploration in a foreign language, it satisfies my curiosity and offers instantaneous alternatives. I’d like to share my experience and discoveries with Marionette and I continue to explore, and hopefully inspire you to give it a try and ultimately share the knowledge with our community.
  15. Hello community. I am looking for photos/images of the old MiniCAD Boxes. version 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 etc If you have one around please post it here.
  16. You are welcome Digitalmechanics.
  17. It would be nice to see the results of your ifc export in Solibri. Did it work for you?
  18. This is the correct expression. =('Space'.'11_Area')
  19. Jeff. "The force is strong with this one"
  20. Hi Guy. If you see the demo with attention, only walls were involved in this exercise. Walls have this peculiarity of being hybrid objects and that helps when you put them to interact with the now smarter dimensions
