  1. If you know and love sketching for jobs, you’ll feel right at home. How to use them both? Here is what I’ve been doing for my projects: you can model in vwx let’s say, some massing models, bring it into Morpholio, rotate your 3d shapes until you find the right angle, then create a sketching layer on top and start sketching. ok, all good so far, pretty fun. Now it comes the time to bring that sketch into vwx. Export the image and save it in a Nomad, then import it into vwx but as a reference, that’s a useful ticket. If you keep making your sketch prettier or just change a few things, and replace the image in nomad, then in vwx is just a matter of updating the reference. I personally like using this method for storyboarding videos o just doodling a future rendering. Or just for a quick floor plan sketch.
  2. Negative. This issue seems to be on the right track
  3. Would you mind sharing the file in a private message? I'll take a look at it.
  4. In order to set a view, nowadays many of us make use of all of these navigation tools. Once we like the view position, typically we save the view and create a viewport from it. The next level would be to place a camera object and make the camera match the view and then create a viewport. There are many advantages for using a camera object, including being able to use its rendering effects. Then the next level would be using one of these 3dnavigators. I like the use of the Rotate 3d view but only if I know the rotation values.
  5. Controlling the background and the reflections is one of the advantages of using rendering styles. This feature was introduced back in 2016. The use is really cool. imaging this, your background could be a desert but the reflection on your shiny model could be a snowy mountain. That sort of magic.
  6. To start, I'd use brightness by percentage. 100-150-200%. all of these values really make a difference when using normal, smooth or realistic setting. When it gets interesting is when you make that light as a symbol. The symbol can also be control by percentage. So you could have a standard light at 100% brightness inside the symbol but when placed in your model set at only 50%.
  7. I'd recommend you stick to something around tabloid size at 300dpi
  8. I personally think I squeezed as much as possible out of renderworks for interiors. Now, I am realizing exteriors are a different challenge. The benefits of a single light source for exteriors along with a nice environmental light and the speed at what these other third party rendering process animation. I just won't decide, I'll just embrace them all. To me, the 3d modeling is the key, 60% of my time goes into that aspect, 30% on getting those materials and lights just right, the rest is just production. Here is a another sample project, single light source and done with the help of the direct link to Enscape. only done in 2 min. Drape Enscape.mov
  9. Based on my current experience the and rendering pros I hang out with, truly realistic renderings can be achieved using other systems. Blender, V-Ray, Unreal, Cinema4D, etc. Ray tracing is super important. Lumion, Twinmotion, Enscape are all nice and produce fast renderings but still nothing compared to the bigger brothers. Then again, not every single design firm needs ultra incredible movie level type animations or renderings. Speed, quality, budget, computer requirements, all of these are factors to consider.
  10. And if you'd like to see its 360 panorama, here is the link: https://cloud.vectorworks.net/links/11eb93ee57b32cfe85ba12bd733fbe07/
  11. Just a follow up with my previous post. I'll invite you to check out the making of this file here:
  12. Thanks for the velvet texture. I was able to test it on this couch.
  13. I just remember about an architect from Costa Rica who creates most of his construction details in 3d. This image is all opengl at 1000dpi. Quite interesting.
  14. @E|FA Just to start the documentation from a model conversation. Recently we managed to release a webinar related to modeling a project. https://university.vectorworks.net/mod/scorm/player.php?a=506&currentorg=articulate_rise&scoid=1012 In a near future we'll release another dedicated to producing drawings from a model. stay tuned.
  15. The 3d spin around? I assume you mean our 360 panorama? if so, then the steps are fairly simple: Place your view at the spot and height you need to view the room > then Export Panorama > set your render mode, resolution, processing location (your computer or cloud) and place to save the final file. Click export.
  16. I could not resist taking our Store model and adding some sound effects to the final animation. This is fun. Now I am curious to see your own projects. Roll out at vwx Store.mp4
  17. Navigating in TM needs you to use a combination of keys for movements and the right click of the mouse. I managed to connect my 3dconnexion navigation but only for replacing the keyboard. Navigation in TM feels a lot like a video game.
  18. Here is a work in progress, but I wanted to share an interior rendering of an idea for a home office. Lots of items here and several light objects using realistic, smooth, backlit and glow attributes. The final rendering was rendered in the cloud using a rendering style, settings included here. Once the final project is ready, I'll make the file available.
  19. Here is a sample of my updated Cloud Presentation for our "VWX Store". One portion shows linked panoramas and the other one is a nice tour of the place including TM animations. Let me know what you think. https://beta.vcs.vectorworks.net/presentations/11e8df8e1bed1a3eabe812a7723e44fa/
  20. I'd recommend you use a combination of glow textures and spotlight pointing down. Do not fall on the trap of adding a point light, that triggers rays in all directions and your shadows will not look correct. Also, once the render is done, add a little cone of light image (.png) to enhance the effect. Here is a sample.
  21. This is part 3 of The Making of Active Campaign. Now that you’ve completed your 3D models, it’s time to get your designs ready for presentation. Explore the extensive options for lighting and textures to bring your space to life. Place lighting objects and select textures from an extensive available library of contents to make those final touches to your design. Then you can set up of viewing cameras and make use of the camera match tool when needed to create renderings. Or, integrate a Vectorworks professional partner animation software and take your presentation to a whole new level. These still renderings as well as 360-degree panoramas can all be processed in the cloud, allowing you to share the whole project as a cloud presentation, including hyperlinks to drawings, images, videos and other graphical information.
  22. Sorry Kevin. I was hoping someone else from the Rendering team would take on that question and add more info. Short answer is no, currently there is no feature that allows you to just rotate the HDRI (dome). As you know, inside the settings of the background we can change the angle, then hit OK, check the background and see if it is close to the desire location, typically I don't get it right until the third try. Should we have this? absolutely, I am with you on that one, it'd save a few clicks and window dialogs. I am sure my friends here are taking notes.
