  1. A colleague pointed out the solution. VW2009 is incorrectly reading my VW2008 workspace file. If you create a new workspace from scratch in VW2009 it solves this issue and you can cycle through open files using Apple+` again.
  2. You can check your grid settings in: File > Document Settings > Document Setup... Drawing grids Your snap and reference grids can be turned on or off here.
  3. Command-` works fine in other programs. It also works for VW 2008 and VW12.5 which I run on the same machine. bcd, Shift-Command-` works. I wonder if there is a way to switch it back to Command-`... do you know where to find it in the workspace editor?
  4. That's odd. For me it switches through the tabs in the Object Info palette (Shape, Data, Render) while I have something selected. Which workspace did you base your settings on? I used Designer.
  5. In older versions of VW for Mac you could cycle through open document windows by using the keyboard shortcut: Command-` This no longer works in VW 2009 - does anyone know how can I get this functionality back?
  6. Islandmon, Could you please elaborate: Let's say you wanted to draw a circle with a transparent center which transitions to a color on the perimeter. How would you do that?
  7. Maybe that's the problem (my problem). How would you draw a line that is not orthogonal ending on another line at a right angle? How do you snap to an object without snapping to a mid- or endpoint?
  8. Just moved to VW 2009. I'm having problems with the object snap. I no longer able to snap "Perpendicular/Object" only "Vertical/Object". Is there a solution?
  9. I would like to continue this thread. Are there any relevant changes in VW 2009? I am currently using the system I described above. What has been causing difficulties is that referenced symbols by default use absolute file references. This has caused some issues with references pointing to outdated detail files. Is there a way to set the default file reference to relative?
  10. Mar, thanks for the note. I like to keep all notes away from the design layer. Makes for a cleaner file. I assume the only way to resolve the issue is to make the single column wider. Maybe the function could be introduced in the future. Esp on the General Notes sheet I have columns and columns of notes I currently make with the regular text tool.
  11. Is there a way to break Key Notes or General Notes into more than one column?
  12. Good discussion here. I have been working on our office's detail library and agree with the approach drawing, dimensioning and labeling details on the design layer. I use a detail template file that has design layers for all common scales. A pre-scaled bounding box allows me to draw viewports that will fit our standard sheet layer grid (NonPlot class). Once a detail is complete I transform it into a symbol. This symbol can be referenced into the target file via the resource browser. There it is placed on an appropriately scaled Design Layer and placed on the Sheet Layer with a viewport. Careful when importing and placing the symbol: the drawing label adjusts to the scale of the active layer. Any subsequent changes to the original detail file will automatically update. If the detail needs to be adapted to the project or disconnected from the detail library I convert the symbol to a group (see M5d above). I do not use Design Layer References as they have a drawback: when breaking the file reference all classes that are used in both the current and the detail file duplicate, creating a big mess. In general DLRs slow down file loading. I agree that Sheet Layer References would be helpful. To stay consistent in VW's methodology of separating dimensions and notes from the actual drawings SLRs would be necessary.
  13. All files are VW 2008 files. I was working with the documents yesterday and it worked fine. When I moved the file to the desktop (as described above) VW actually prompted me to relocate the links before crashing. One thing I realized is that the files opened again after I opened the resource's source file first.
  14. In the Vectorworks folder there is a folder called "Workspaces." This is where workspaces are stored. Delete them from there. I don't think you can do it from inside VW.
  15. This morning VW crashed several times when I tried to open files. At first I tried opening a file from the server. When that crashed I moved it to the desktop. When that still crashed I ran some disk tools, quit everything and restarted machine. Then I tried opening the backup. Still crashed. I tried opening another file (also with a referenced viewport) and that crashed. Then I tried yet another file which did opene. Oddly the previous file I tried to open was suddenly opened in the background. Now all the files that previously crashed at opening all load again. While this may be good news it wasted 45 minutes and a lot of nerve. Does anyone have similar problems? Is there a known issue with referenced viewports or nested referenced viewports?
  16. I have had a similar problem after installing a new font. Some text and worksheet text changed to the new font. I would change it back to Arial, but the next time I opened the file it would have reverted. The only solution I found was to disable the new font.
  17. Were you using nested viewports from external files?
  18. I am working on a file using nested design layer viewports. I have referenced the site plan from another file which in turn has referenced the roof plan from a third file. When I export the file (DWG) the information contained in the nested viewport is not exported. The area is blank. VW 2008 SP2 (Build 83388) Mac Os X Leopard 10.5.3 Mac Pro 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 8 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-Dimm
  19. Is there a way to set VW2008 preferences so that the default object attributes are class style, class color and class line weight? Whenever I start up VW it reverts to black line and white fill.
  20. In VW2008 the program remembers certain tool settings from the last session such as: -Duplicate Array values -Fillet values -Offset values It does not remember them for tools such as: -Move -Move by Points Error messages are also inconsistent: For some tools, such as the eyedropper, VW uses the new bottom corner red bar style error indicator when you click into an empty area. For the mirror tool you get the old style dialog box with the "OK" button when you try to mirror without any objects selected. It would be helpful if commands were more consistent (I prefer both remembering settings across sessions as well as the bottom corner red bar error).
  21. Re: previous post Mac OS X v. 10.5.2 Mac Pro 2 x 3GHz Quad-Core Intel Xenon 8GB 800 MHz DDR2 VW2008 SP2 Designer, Renderworks (Build 83388) Let me know where to find the crash logs.
