  1. Chris, sorry to here about your problems with Mac's. Mine are just the opposite. I guess its different for everybody. As for that many Mac' with issues, have you contacted your local dealer? Here in the US at least, Apple has a very good Business side, and or great 3rd party support structure. As for the multi cores. I have noticed that request often and yes I agree VW needs to take advantage of more RAM and Cores if available. Common VW step it up already! Were here and were waiting(but I guess not for long).
  2. Occ Tourist, Could you post your profile? It would help for future questions.
  3. Chris, I just noticed your on 2008. is that correct? would a switch to 2012 help? that last question was directed at anyone.
  4. Chris, I was of the understanding that Renderworks uses multiple cores. As for the SSD I have witnessed its use in other machines and is really fast. Its an option you can move to in the future (that is my plan). Interesting on the RAM though. I have 6GB right now and have been experiencing render issues with movie walk throughs (shuts down with 8 med views). I do not know if this is RAM or something else yet. Keep me posted on what you find with your machines. It may move my mindset on computer power. Although for other software more is better(Photoshop, Aperture, Illustrator). Thanks for the post.
  5. Benson, if it helps We could all start counting to 10 before we send. JK:)
  6. yep! Create Helix Spiral. Works great
  7. sorry for the delayed response. It was I believe a corrupt file. quite strange though.
  8. I am trying to create an animation of a design (First time I have done one). I get the process but when I try to render with say 6-10 views it crashes. I did render with 3 low res views and it worked. I know my basic process is right, but why the crash? Is it a memory thing, or am I missing something. Thanks for the advice in advance.
  9. when applying an internal radial Dim in a VP I get a constant shutdown. Any one else having these issues.
  10. good point, I do like my matte finish(anti glare)
  11. Definitely the iMac is a great solution. As for design and rendering the iMac loaded is great. If you are a heavy user, lots of 3D, and usage of other software while in VW go with the tower. I have the tower because I got rid of my server (i am now using the old server) in a business consolidation. If I were buying new I would load up an iMac, more bang for the buck!
  12. heres one I discovered a while back and is now really bugging me. Draw an arc with the polyline tool then offset to the inside 1'. The ends don't close! actually the opposite ends close! great bow tie but not what I want. Has anyone else experienced this?
  13. Mark, check into service select. this should keep upgrades manageable
  14. I agree with Vincent. My Mac Pro is a 2007 model and the only issue I have had was a bad hard drive this year. no virus, no major breakdowns. as far as that goes at a measly $400.00 per year of IT support that is $2000.00 more (now which is cheaper) dont get me wrong there are great PC's out there. but for out of the box ease and runability a Mac is just unbeatable. Now if you do your own IT forget what I said.
  15. I have 30" which they do not make anymore. 27" are nice but you may find 30"s cheep online, as they are a great long running monitor.
  16. if you can wait for Ivy Bridge then do it. as you can tell I have some older specs but am waiting for the Ivy bridge rollout.
  17. yes buy the bones then upgrade as you need. memory from crucial is cheaper and is OEM. 5870 is a better card from what I know and it will allow you to expand to another monitor when needed.
  18. If money is no object, Mac Pro 2-2.93 6core "Westmere", 24 GB RAM,2-512 Solid States,ATI 5870 1GB with two 27" Cinemas. Don't forget run Lion and get a 1TB external as a backup. Lots of juice, fast memory and plenty of it. With the tower you can add what you want if you need more.
  19. are you exporting a sheet layer? if so you may need to increase the DPI on the Sheet layer (default is 72 DPI.
  20. as of right now I draw everything in Layer plane and only use Screen plane for VP creation, and sometimes text. I agree though. Why 2 planes? If other could check in on how they use screen plane.
  21. dahard, by your note of switching to lion I am assuming Mac late model (2007 or newer). 2012 is drastically faster and better. for you the transition will be very noticeable at first as many of us have had 4 versions of little things to get used to. as for the snapping accuracy this can be adjusted in the preferences and for the selection you have to hover over the point for a split second before it selects. That took some getting used to but now I find it helpful. you can adjust almost everything in the prefs. give it some time to get used to it and you'll notice the speed. Hope this help a little.
  22. eps to illustrator, live trace export to VW? just spitballing here.
