  1. We have recieved a large siteplan with 3d levels, which we would like to convert into a single triangluated mesh. Task: each level is a group of two 3D lines crossed. The lines are at the correct Z-Height. I would like to convert these groups of lines into 3D locus points, which could be converted to a surface. Slow solution: My impractical solution is to convert each group into a symbol with the origin at the group's center and then delete the symbol in the file resourses. This leaves a 3D locus point in exactly the right location. Problem: There are 3500 of these groups and I don't want RSI after approx 8hours of repeated keystrokes! Faster Solution: Is there an automated way of doing this within Vectorworks 11, or is it possible to write a simple script to convert to 3d loci? I have no experience with VectorScript, and this could be a minefeild in itself. any help would be appreciated,
  2. I have imported a dwg of 3d levels each level is a group consisting of two 3d lines crossed there are 3500 grouped levels All I have managed so far is to convert a group into a symbol using its 'object centre' and 'leave in place' and then delete the symbol, which converts it into a 3D locus at the correct location. It would take me a month to do this for all 3500 groups :-( does anyone have a faster solution? I am using Vectorworks 11.0.1 on a mac.
  3. thanks :-) ...unfortunatley I found the reset button before I read your reply, now I have to put all my settings back in :-( 'edit font mappings' is under the display tab on mine
  4. as above, but maybe try the following as well. (make sure you duplicate the model, or back up before you try this) - View your model in any 3D angle with or without perspective - Select All - Model>Convert to 3D Polys - export to artlantis as usual this works especially well if you are using layerlinks and symbols. also make sure you haven't got any geometry miles off centre. (apple-6) also, once the model is in art-lantis, you need to go into the material editior and reduce the smoothing angle on materials which are supposed to be flat.
  5. when I import a dwg drawing and I don't have the fonts on my machine it asks what I would like replace them with. This choise is saved as a default. I don't want to use this default anymore, how do I reset or change it? I'm on MacOSX 10.3.4 & VW11.0.1
  6. yeah, maybe something like the eyedropper tool could be extended to transfer all sorts of properties, in a similar way to archicad. I beleive the vectorworks "architect" at least has better facilities to manage classes between files. I need to check it out.
  7. If you have multiple viewports, what is the fastest way of updating the same class/layer visibilities for all of them? ...either just viewports within one file or even across multiple files. eg. I'm using one floorplans file, which references into individual print files (with a titleblock symbol, viewport and sheet layer for each page size). regards, Jez
  8. Jim - I'm using one floorplans file, which references into individual print files (with a title block symbol, viewport and sheet layer for each page size). Chris - because it is possible with class visibilities, we should be able to write a typical script, at least until the next release [ 10-07-2004, 07:04 AM: Message edited by: jezscott ]
  9. thanks, Because all the pipes offset to different locations between the floors, one stack layer would turn into a bit of a mess. This is mainly for checking between floors while drawing. I played with custom visibility, renaming individual stack classes for each floor or even having a seperate stack layer for each floor. All proved to be a bit too complex or too time consuming especially if someone else picks up the drawing to work on after me.
  10. We are trying to set out pipes, which run vertically through the building. We have setup a layer for each floor, which includes a class for the rain water pipes and another class for the soil pipes. We also have a typical grid for setting out. Is it possible to view one floor layer and the typical grid, as well as the pipes only from another or all other floor layers? probably a bad explaination, maybe there is another method?? thanks, JEz
  11. ...changing all the hatches to "page" style worked perfectly thanks!
  12. thanks :-) this explains a lot. Drawings export fine from VW11 "design layers" but "sheet layers" and viewports are causing the problems I mentioned above. Maybe the world/page hatch setup is switching when it exports from the 1:1 viewport layer?
  13. Is there a solution or even a workaround for the problem in dwg exports where the hatch is far more dense (almost black) than it should be. Not all hatches in a drawing seem to have this problem and I can't figure out the difference between the hatch types. I'll probably just turn off all the hatches on export
  14. yep, I've renamed the class back to "none", made it visible and moved all the contents to a new class. I did the same for "dimension" aswell.... woops... Jez
  15. Your right! I made all of the classes "visible" and the missing groups reapeared. for some reason it keeps moving objects to a different class when they are grouped. ....how do I stop this? I set "use at creation" to "No" on all of the classes. I draw with various differnt classes but it always reverts groups back to the same one?????? I think the class in question might have previously been called "none" I'll try that. Jez
  16. aaaargh! One of my files has recently become corrupt. whenever I group a number of objects they are deleted instead! ....after grouping the objects they appear to be no longer selected (handles disapear)but are still visable, (I can't select the objects) when zooming in or out the screen refreshes and they are gone forever. This means I can no longer group objects! (doesn't happen in any of my other files though) PLEASE HELP!!!! Jez
