  1. I also vote for the trackball. I have a Kensington Expert and find it hard to go back to "mice", for all the above reasons. There is a wide variation in trackballs, especially when using one for drawing. IMHO, the Kensington is the best for comforta and usability.
  2. Even though there are only six basic 3D symbols, they are easily shaped to create a multitude of different forms to represent many different plant types. It does take much experimentation to be able to create a representative form the first time. I keep a log of defined shapes to aid me.
  3. If you are a windows user - PDF995 is a freedown load, but you will get advertisements. $30 buys you a complete package of tools.
  4. Have the provider "explode" their file, save it as a 2002 dwg. You can then import it into Landmark. When importing, Under 2D/3Dcheck conversion, check 3D only and the file should import in with the polylines having a z value attached.
  5. Robert I would like to make a comment here that I have made several times to marketing and sales. At this time there is no specific training outside the cd's for Landmark.
  6. Is anyone aware of 3rd party add-on's for either of the above for VW
  7. It would be nice to have VW beable to use State Grid Coordinates for layout work and to be able to transfer data to the surveyors for layout surveys.

    Plant tags

Robert How do I change the location of the handle next to the plant tag. I would like to have it at least one inch away so it is more visible and easier to grab when around many plants [ 11-04-2004, 06:35 PM: Message edited by: tvetter ]
  9. Kevin When you are in the Define Plant dialogue box as you setup your plant catlogue, you can change the code to something that makes sense to you. You still need to go through all the symbols to select the plant you want, instead of being able to scroll a list of plants through a dialogue box "read - this is a dig, Robert".
  10. The part of the line from the symbol to the horizonal line that creates the line. Would be nice when trying to adjust the tag location to be able to grab easier if the vertex were not over the symbol.

Have you tried to print a B&W dwg. It prints color.
  12. Robert Being a little slow, mind is on skiing. Where can we find out the different options for line styles - what is a "-2". What is the "shoulder" fo a plant tag. I change this number and nothing seems to happen. Is the default height of plants referring to 3D. What is the "gap" of gapped plant connecting lines. Once again, changing the number seemed to have no effect. The primary thing I would like to change is the section of line from the symbol connection point to the line that the tag sits on. PC PDF Drivers

Katie After all this time of driving pdf driver tech supports crazy, and you have the simple answer. If you ever leave tech support, I know your goals ambitious, I do not know what we will do. [ 11-03-2004, 03:06 PM: Message edited by: tvetter ]
  14. Petri I am not VS literate, but it seems you have something I need. I need to be able to print pdf files in B&W. None of the pdf drivers can do this when there are groups and symbols that are not B&W. Can your script do this easily? thks [ 11-03-2004, 02:55 PM: Message edited by: tvetter ]
  15. What are the subjects covered this book. I cannot find any detail. [ 11-03-2004, 02:51 PM: Message edited by: tvetter ]

    PC PDF Drivers

The main problem trying to change all the colors to black is when there are several groups or symbols. They do not change readily. I wonder if there is a setting in VW that could be easily modified to "virtually" change pen colors so the drawing would not need to be modified.
  17. Kevin As an ex-autocad user, it is very frustrating learning VW / Landmark. Do not give up. I had to fight through some of the same things you are going through. It will be worth it. It is hard to unlearn the autocad way of thinking. It takes time to reteach your brain logic.
  18. Does anyone know of a pdf driver that will print from a pc in B&W. I have tried pdf995 & Bluebeam
  19. Where are the plug-in string controls located?
  20. Kevin Uncheck plant styles and draw 3D. I think ram is more important. Also video ram. I think 11 is an improvement over 10. There are still things that drive me crazy, like having to select plants from symbol list instead of a dialogue box of plant names - Robert, I know I am not the only one saying this, But all in all, it is better. 11.1 is as stable. Major advancements - hmmmm, I would say it depends on your practice. I do more site planning than big, detailed planting plans. Imports from 10 to 11 have been ok. Definitely upgrade.
  21. Kevin & Viper Been watching this with interest. I am running an XP Pro machine, 1 gig of ram,3.1GHz, Ver. 11.1 I only experience slow downs when I have hundreds of symbols placed and have the "Draw 3D" and or "Enable plant style" checked in the object info box. Also do you have "3D by Default" checked in the Define Plant dialogue box. If so, uncheck it. Hope this helps.
  22. jonel Their are plenty of drivers that will do d size plots on the HP website. I plot to a HP450C in 24 x 36.
  23. alanmac Have you found a way to get 995pdf to print in b&w. I can only get to print in color. [ 11-01-2004, 06:34 PM: Message edited by: tvetter ]
  24. What pdf printer drivers are being used? I am currently using pdf995, but it will not print to B&W. PC using XP Pro, Ver 11.1 thks [ 10-29-2004, 09:25 AM: Message edited by: tvetter ]
  25. Just the default setting. Already thought of that.
