  1. Elena, it sounds like the graphic on those layers got scaled at some point. If they overlay the same way than one must be smaller than the other.

You can change that by making layers same scale, then going through modify>scale (inc. text, but not entire drawing) to change the wrong graphic to the right size.

I've never encountered the 1/4" scale issue, but the civil drawings have come in in the past where they were drawn using 1" as 1 foot, so they had to be scaled by 12.

    hope it helps

  2. Speaking of fonts, is it possible to tell VW which fonts to use? it seems to be using the ones in User Library, not System library...

We own so many fonts, though some of them were purchased a decade+ ago, but VW doesn't seem to like some of them.

or maybe it's the Mac+VW combo - sometimes fonts are the biggest issue with Macs and VW...

  3. I get this message when trying to print:

"The Class Definition you are trying to import has the same name as the symbol in current document" I don't have neither the class nor the symbol with that name in the file... And renaming doesn't work - I would end up renaming about 30 times per print, each time.

    Anyone has the same trouble?

  4. I had a file for 11-story building, 3D, BIM-friendly, with all the IFC stuff, and

without the furniture, plants, people, etc. the file was 380 MB - YouSendIt came in very handy :)

To reduce the file size I changed resolution from 300 to 150, turned off quartz imaging, simplified my GL options, and yes, final quality renderings and IFC conversions are better done during lunch or overnight...

  5. If you don't want extra lines, loci, etc., but would like to just snap to each 1/5, 1/3, 1/24, etc. portion of the line, i would recommend using constraints of the smart cursor. double click the "snap to distance" button and specify which fraction or distance you want to snap to.

This one's especially good if you work with a module.

  6. you can also just use the guardrail tool separately - more flexibility that way. Same rule applies though - if the stair design changes, then you'll end up changing the guardrail separately as well. But maybe you won't have to re-draw it completely. Would have been handy if you could get the stair and handrails to "stick" to each other though...

  7. That is exactly what I was hoping for. It'll go on the wish list I guess.

Thanks for the tips Peter, sounds like it COULD be easier than I thought. I'll give it a try.

    CAD is definitely much faster.

Fixing and modifying in just a few clicks instead of scrapping the whole drawing definitely is better. I can't even imagine doing construction documents by hand either, and the time they would take!

It's just that the whole "hand-to-brain" link - it's not quite the same with the mouse...

Looks like the technology is not lagging behind though... There are some pretty cool gadgets out there.

  8. What would you use for the sloped roof that is also a green/parking area?

Would you create them separately, as IFC entities?

I am wondering if there is some kind of landscape tool to do that in one swoop.

  9. I have to model concrete waffle slabs - anyone has any ideas?

I tried adding, subtracting, but all of those take forever. Tried using the repetitive unit tool, but it doesn't look right - is there a more efficient way to do it?

The ultimate goal for it is to be a solid item, that can be exported into IFC and sent to consultants.

    Any tips?

    Thank you in advance.

  10. Jeffrey,

I sent you the file, let me know if you get the same problems.

I am still having issues with the floors and ceilings (converted to IFC entities) - they just won't export correctly.

And, how do you draw soffits so they export well?

I used short walls, with start Z at the height I needed, but they all ended up "sitting" on the floor after IFC export.
