  1. Why is it when you use the parking space tool that it does not render thick lines. I have tried different settings and I still end up with thin, hardly visible lines.
  2. I am having a problem inserting a symbol I created for a storefront wall. When I insert it into the wall the sides don't completely show up and the top and bottom look as if the wall is tapered toward the center of the door/symbol. Does anyone know how to fix this.
  3. Actually it is a straight on front and back view viewport. I can't remember if it is the forground rendering in hidden line or the background, as I don't have the file with me.
  4. It is curve conversion problem, they look facetted. Also, they are on a sheet layer and in the same viewport. The second story arches look like a smooth arch while the first floor looks facetted and made up of three lines. Of course if I render it in OpenGL or Rendworks Final Quality they look very smooth. Not sure what I should do.
  5. Hi everyone, I am having an issue where some archways render very smooth in hidden line and other are very rough. I have my resolution set to 600. Is there something else that I need to check or change to make all of them render smooth?
  6. Does/has anyone found any easy way to add a glass-block window to a wall, like what you would see in a bathroom above the tub? Is there already a symbol for this included in VW 2013? Or will I need to just model it.
  7. So basically once I have run the framing tool, I will need to go back and manually update the headers and all information that is incorrect.
  8. Hello VW community, I have a question about using the framing tool. Is it possible when framing a wall to change the header size framing member above the doors and windows?
  9. Has anyone ever utilized the simple beam calculator in VW. Is there a good tutorial anywhere on it?
  10. I believe it has to be a sketch up model version 7 or earlier. I have problems doing the same when it is a complex model. I usually end up bringing the sketch up file into another 3D program and then export it to a 3DS file.
  11. It used to be that when I created a section viewport to show a detailed view of an area such as an interior elevation the marker itself would show up on the floor plan. I would also have the viewport itself on the same construction document sheet. Now for some reason I cannot get the section viewport marker to show up only the viewport that was created from it does. I have attached what I want to view on the floor plan in addition to the viewport itself. Anyone have any ideas on how to make the marker show in the floor plan?
  12. Is there a way to insert a door into a window wall? I have tried using the window wall tool and then inserting a door but it does not insert into it. If I create a regular wall and then insert the window will into it, the door will go into the wall but does not subtract from the window wall. Do I have to model it? I am trying to create a window wall store front.
  13. Vincent I know you already found the solution but one thing I have always done for my viewports is deactivate all classes for objects/items that are either not visible or that I don't need to render in the VP. This drastically speeds up the VP rendering time.
  14. Thanks Benson I will do as you suggested. I currently use FormZ Renderzone for all of my modeling of that nature but I would sure love to be able to do it all in one package.
  15. Does anyone out there do any of this in VW? I am interested in doing such things as cars, boats, vegetation, etc.
  16. So have they updated the stair tool to be able to display upper and lower floor configurations in VW2012? I have VW2011 and I am pretty sure I can only do that with the custom stair tool, unless there was an update that fixed it that I didn't see.
  17. I believe Using a Scientic calculator or Construction Master Calculator. Press the Tan button for any given degree on the plans and multiply by 12 and that will be your pitch.
  18. Never mind, I am an idiot. I see the 3 different selection modes. Just in case anyone else is wondering where it is located, it is located in the top tool bar.
  19. It used to be that when I used the selection tool that It would select through a rectangular selection area. For some reason now it uses the equivalent of a lasso selection, which I don't like. Does anyone know how to get it back to a rectangular selection area?
  20. I figured it out. Excel and Open office do calculations in "Radians" and not degrees. So you have to manually input the cosine of the pitch. For all of you who need this information for you roof take offs, If you would like the file, I have an open office spread sheet with the formulas already done, just let me know you email address and I will send it to you. Be sure you convert you span and overhang into inches first. You will then need to use a calculator to get the cosine of your pitch and input that number into the "COS of Pitch" column. Your end result is the length of your rafter in feet. Sure wish this could be done easier in VW.
  21. Taoist I have a question. I am trying to set up an excel formula so that I can have these values calculated easily. If I do the Cosine of the pitch (36.67) on my calculator it gives me .80208845. However, if I do it in excel or look it up on the web the cosine of 36.67 equals .515580058. So which one is correct? Does anyone else know why I am getting two different numbers?
  22. Thanks taoist, I will keep checking back. I am sure someone has to have run across this before and will also keep searching the forums for this question. Just in case someone has already answered this before.
  23. Is there a way to set this up in a report so I can easily access this information for future projects?
  24. I have a question about generating a material takeoff schedule needed for a roof plan. If I generate the roof framing model, when I click on a rafter, is the dimension given in the "Span" the correct measurement? If not is there a report that I can run that will give me the exact length of that rafter so that I can round it up and let the framer know the size of lumber he will need to make that rafter? I have noticed that If I go into a side view and measure the length of a rafter the measurement that I get compared to the "span" in the Object Info palette are way different. Any suggestion on this? Has anyone ever produced a material (lumber) takeoff schedule?
  25. Robert try making your window that you want to use into a symbol and then use that to place into the roof to create your dormer. Once that is done you should be able to go back and edit the symbol and the window in the dormer should update. On your second question you would have to ungroup the roof giving you control over the dormer walls. You then can delete the window in the dormer and retain everything else.
