  1. Well, that's been the advice from the powers that be at NNA... all roads lead to Rome. Although, you most likely work as I do in terms of needing the current Architectural Plans feeding the Current Landscape Plan and vice-versa (or some scenario requiring a loop). I've actually had this issue pop up a few times and it wasn't until Pat (The VW Guru) saved my neck, that I even recognized the references as the source of the problem. Since then I must say that Tech Support and the engineers at NNA (namely Jefferey Oullette) has expressed their concern with the issue and seem determined to resolve it.
  2. You may want to try copying the file to a hardrive, disconnect from your server, then open and click "Do not look for Broken References". There have been numerous issues regarding files with multiple references, circular references, etc. If this is the issue, then there are a few workarounds (even if not ideal) for reorganizing your file structure, but at least you have your file back.
  3. There's not a command for this but one option is to create a flat plane at the desired height and then fit walls to that item. But it may be worth it to you to use this script - See previous post below: Post
  4. First of all, are you familiar with the Snap to Distance Tool? Also, to be clear the polyline is not a straight line correct?
  5. Is there a collection of handicap symbols in VW08 Architect? If so, could somebody direct me to them. Thanks in advance.
  6. Good to hear Ray! You agree though that at the least we'd have to go to Vista?
  7. Welcome Jeremy, It will help us, and in return you, if you include your current operating system and hardware specs in your signature... also, let us know if you plan to upgrade either or both.
  8. After reading through the NNA and message board materials regarding 2009, it seems that NNA will isolate a lot of current and potential users based on system requirements/costs alone? Mind you hardware is an area I'm just BEGINNING to learn about, but between conversation here in our office and with outside associates, we would need to upgrade to Vista (Which will open a whole can of worms), upgrade/purchase all new machines to/with 4 or more GB (Not to mention processors - one engineer told me a "4 quad or you'll me kicking yourselves"), and then obviously the licenses. Does this sound right? Does the "average/mode" Vw user(or perhaps station is more accurate) have that kind of power/money invested in hardware? Is this really as big of a jump as it seems or am I misinformed? Thanks in advance.
  9. Just click on this link to an earlier thread on the topic... you should be all set: Link
  10. Wow! Thanks for all that. I'm go over these items with our office manager first thing Monday. I hope you understand that when I and others complain it just due to frustration... you guys at NNA due a great job! Good luck with the launch on Monday... can't wait to explore 09!
  11. Jeffrey, Took a look again at your file structure on Ellicott Heights last night and am going to to try to duplicate it on my new Mac with everything off network. I was wondering though, am I correct in assuming that this example and in general your projects are done via networks? If so, are there certain "requirements" you start getting into with networks or at this point do I start looking for an IT guy to hire? Thanks in advance.

  13. Workflow is an area we struggle with daily in our office. And though referencing capabilities are great in theory (and many times practice) in the VW2008 program, we continually run into issues with files that are either outputting or inputting references failing. And by failing, examples included files that reference one another or have multiple files will ALWAYS at some point become nonoperational (they will crash upon updating references, saving, or will not open at all). And mind you Jefferey, I've seen what you've done in the BIM in practice area, but when I've tried to duplicate your structure I run into similar issues... may be our network though I admit. Which brings me to Christiaan: I've worked with my files backing up to my hardrive (actually at 50 ops as well), but once a file gets larger than a day or two's worth of work, it take a couple mins to save. With that said, I'm certain you draft as fast or faster than I, and I find myself saving every couple mins some days... don't you find this slows down your work flow dramatically?

    Roof Components?

Right up there with components in the floor tool!
  15. Do you have the Style set to 3D Mesh Solid under the 3D Display Settings of the Create Site Model window?
  16. I know this question has been asked but I couldn't find the answer just now. If I was working on a schedule with multiple items of the same type (W-1 x 5) what criteria do I need to set to count them only once so that my schedule doesn't count all the times a single "type" of window occurs? Thanks in advance.
  17. I'm happy to (or at least willing) to stay mindful of constantly saving (in addition to my automatic) and to stay away from certain operations/combination of operations, but the crashes that occur when trying to open large files with multiple references is unacceptable... especially when the files aren't that large and don't have that many references. We have a file that every few weeks will just stop working (Attempt to open causes crash). I have to go off network, open file, then import referenced items or try to just re-reference (which causes annotation notes on vp issues).
  18. FYI: If you do get a trial version, you may want to inquire as to the service pack it has. I had a full trial version (RenderWorks, Designer, Architect, etc) sent to me a few months ago, but it did not include even SP2 and you can not upload a service pack to a trial version yourself... and it was REALLY buggy.
  19. You could snap to grayed objects in a DLVP. Make certain your snaps/preferences are set correctly and that the layer that is grayed is in Top/Plan view.
  20. You may want to check that your Smart Cursor Cues is on: > Tools > Options > VW Preferences > Edit (It's the second one down on the left)
  21. This is a known bug which I've contacted NNA about in the past.
  22. I believe it was Pat... though I couldn't duplicate the issue just now. Actually, I've had multiple problems with windows and doors (custom or not) since I began modeling in VW. My hopes are that purchasing WinDoor will help. Still though, it seems the more I learn and try new things in VW the more time I waste on work-arounds and edits... it's really frustrating! Thanks for the tip though.
  23. I've had similar issues with this tool and have both submitted it as a bug and posted for feedback... here's one of the images from one my earlier posts:
  24. Also, thanks for suggesting Wraps. I've never used the texture wraps and will definitely look into their use.
