  1. Hi Perhaps this is a stupid question, but how do I import a sketchup file? I go to File>Import>, but I don't see .skp files available. I use Sketchup Pro to convert to DWG and import that way. Thanks
  2. It's a design layer. I got it to work by dropping the resolution from 300 to 250. I guess it didn't have enought memory to complete the rendering, but why didn't the customary error message appear?
  3. Hi All I'm working on a renedering of a sculpture. The final presentation wants to have the model with some text. I'm looking at the final product exactly as I want it on my screen, but when I export PDF, it doesn't include the model. all the text is on the PDF, but no model. I'm exporting hte printable area as one page at 300 dpi. Thoughts?
  4. Hi all I'm running into a problem. I have an object with an image texture. when i open the file, it renders just like it should on fast render with shadows. after a bit, it just turns black. I can edit the texture, looking at the image I want it to be, but it renders black.(it's black in the object info pallet as well.) Any thoughts? Also, another image texture causes my system to eat it's memory. I grouped the object by itself, and then told it to do a fast RW with shadows, and it ran out of memory in about 3 seconds. Same object with no texture works fine. I try to edit the texture, and instead of the preview window, I get a black square. Is my image file corrupted? Thanks! Jeff
  5. Yes, I'm a pro, and I paid for my license, so it's irritating to look at the watermark on my drawing. I'm not either. I think that if you're using the tool, you should have to pay for it like the rest of us. I had to buy the software as a student(at a discount), but getting the license for the software was free.
  6. so, I'm going to guess that NNA frowns upon people doing professional work with the edu version, since I'm pretty sure that my client who sent it to me was paid to draft it. Thanks!
  7. Hi Gang I've gotten some drawings across my desktop for a client, but the drawings were done with an educational version of VW. Is there any way to remove that pesky watermark that comes with an edu version document? copying and pasting into a new documnet just brings the watermark with it, which is very annoying when I don't have the educational version and don't want the watermark. any thoughts? Thanks! Jeff
  8. Hi all I've found recently that whenever i import a DWG into an existing drawing, it resets certain class atributes. ex. Dimensions will go from use at creation, none solid, red lines to not use at creation, solid everything, which turns all the object in the drawing to the new attributes. It's not all that time consuming to switch them back, but i don't think it should be happening at all. Any thoughts? Thanks! Jeff 2008 SP3 XP
  9. doing both of those things only took it from a 26mb file to a 19 mb file. Granted, that's 7 mb, but still not in the sendable to AOL email range(which is my goal. i think it's 10 mb limit). any more hints? thanks!!
  10. Hi all I've got a question about massively huge files in VW 2008. I've got a drawing that is ginormous, and only has a few (120) objects. The objects are extrudes that i've sliced to form the angle. I'd like to get the same type of thing in a 5mb or close to that file size, rather than a 22mb file. I tried to post it, but internet explorer said no. Any suggestions? Thanks! Jeff
  11. hi all is there a way to snap to imported pdf's that weren't created using VW? Thanks! Jeff
  12. ok, new problem: I need to add an image file to the texture, a painted rendering of the wave from my perf sample. I've got the image i need to put into the texture, but I can't work out how to do that. Also, I tried creating an image prop, but all I got was a blank outline. I've posted the image file here. TIA
  13. yes, thanks gmm18! very helpful
  14. Anybody have a CAD of a Genie ST25 they can share? TIA
  15. here's the file. I figured out what I was doing wrong, but the texture still isn't what i need it to be. It's a staggered centers perforation, which has the irritating property of not tiling. Any advice? TIA
  16. Hi all I know that this has been touched on before, but it's not working out for me. I created a texture from an image file, and it does what I want it to do while in the Texture Editor. However, when I apply to an object, I just get a blank plane(it becomes grey when i render it.) anybody know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks! Jeff
  17. well, i tried the symbol route, and they still rotated. any suggestions? is it a bug maybe?
  18. Hi everyone nice enough to read this, just wondering if it's possible to set a hotkey or keyboard shortcut to make a certain class active. It's a class that I inserted into the template that I use for every drawing. I tried the keyboard shortcut for going up/down, but with up to 200 classes... you get the point. Thanks! Jeff
  19. Have you checked your line weights? a .05 line can look gray because there's not much of it there.
  20. Right. When I inserted them, they did align themselves to the ground plane. I rotated them using the rotate tool until I had them where I needed them. They rotated back to the ground plane a few days later. TIA Jeff
  21. Hi people way smarter than me, I've come across this problem twice now. I have a drawing with bolts in it, created with the 3D fastener tool. I then place these bolts precisly where I need them. However, they rotate 90 degrees and align themselves with the ground plane. Attached is a screenshot of what I'm talking about. In the pic, the bolt that's laying sideways was drawn pointing up/down, making an adjustable foot on the end of a leg. It requires 5 minutes to fix (it took me longer to write this post than it would to correct the problem manually), but why the heck did it happen in the first place? no other object in the group got rotated, just the fasteners. TIA Jeff
  22. can you edit them in the navigation window? that's how i do it.
