  1. When going thru the same steps, mine retains the settings of both layers and classes from the design layer where I last worked. In that particular file, are the design layers set-up with just "Active Only" as the pref?
  2. I like it! Anything improving the graphic quality of our work is what I'm after. I think NNA has done a "bang up" job of providing some very fine tools - yes, there's room for improvement but it is my opinion that this graphically rich environment is what separates us from the pack. Your scheme as outlined, I believe you'll have the most flexibility and control over the "look and feel" of your work.
  3. Ha! Yep, it did take me a few words to say "Open the worksheet, insert this code" didn't it...
  4. That seems to be a good plan - sometimes for clarity I poche either existing or new construction then include a small Legend...
  5. Further Magic can be performed such as counting items, adding a "Location" column to the Door or Window Schedule(s), creating a List of drawings the "sucks" its data from the title block info.... have some fun with it.
  6. Michael, You have stumbled upon some of the "black magic" that lies within this program... If you want to add columns of info into your Door or Window Schedules that are listed in the Window or Door Settings panes but are NOT listed in the "stock" Door/Window Schedule you need to, well...mess with things a bit. First familiarize yourself with adding/deleting columns in the Door/Window worksheets - this is also the place to edit the column names - create the schedule with the typical Tools >> Reports >> VA Create Schedule scenario. Place the schedule on the drawing and double click to open the worksheet. The fun begins now...to add a column click on a column header letter, go over to the top left(just under the red X and green check mark) and find the small "down" arrow's drop-down menu - go to INSERT >> Columns...Voila - new column To edit a Column Header Name - click in that cell and look up at the top left near the green check mark - this is where you can edit the name. Now the black magic - to get Sill Description info to flow from the Window Settings pane to the Window Schedule you need to know the Database Header code for this info - you'll find it in Tools >> Scripts >> VectorScript Plug-In Editor - scroll down and find Window and Click on Parameters (have I lost you yet?) the two columns you're interested in are Name and Alternate Name - Alternate Name is the one listed in the Window Settings pane, Name is the one you'll enter into the Database Header row as "code". They will not be the same name as is the case here. So find Sill Description under Alternate Name and WindowSill under Name - got it? Now back to the worksheet. Under the small "down" arrow near the red X find Database Headers hover over it and it will activate. click in one of the row's individual cells and observe the "code" there - this is the magic we're after. Now cut and paste code from one of the adjacent cells into your newly created column's Database Header cell (it's just easier to cut and paste to get alot of the formula - you don't need to do this, just insure you include the equals signs and periods where appropriate) . Modify it to read =(Window.WindowSill) Voila - now the data will flow...Remember the text entered has to be EXACTLY right or it won't work - you'll need to practice this a bit I suspect - I did MANY times. FYI - you need to RECALCULATE to see changes...that is done under that same small "down" arrow. My e-mail is wgardner@vectorworks.net if I can be of further help.

I concur - however, if I draw a wall and place a window in it I CAN see the hinge direction on both sides (oriented correctly as I flip the wall from "Front" to "Back" - my test wall is a simple unstyled wall with a casement window in it - I used a "NEW" file - the classes that are "ON" are Dims, None and Sills What I'd like to see is a small red (or pick your color) reference arrow pointing "OUT" when I place my windows - in several of my projects I "paint" the jambs, sills etc. on the exterior and have had to flip several windows... I thought I caught a pair of outswing "French" doors NOT being able to accept color on the exterior - I'll need to go back for a bit and check that out. My last project I did just that - dashed lines for hinge direction as I didn't want them to show in perspective or rendered views.
  8. I can't get mine to "fail"....hmmm I wonder if it's some sort of obscure classing deal...
  9. In the Design Layer, when you double click on a window and the Window Settings dialog box opens, under the "Parts" settings, do you see the hinge direction shown? I assume the windows are NOT fixed glass... If they're Custom sash, there's another place (in the Custom sash pane) where you need to select the operation - i.e. left casement, etc.
  10. I place my title blocks on the Sheet Layers - (1:1) scale where the "final" drawing will be - this allows manipulation via Class overrides to adjust final line weight, color, etc.

A sort function can be performed by clicking on the Database Headers row - up near the top left drag one of the ascending or descending icons onto the column you want to have sorted - for the "stock" Door Schedule, it's column "B" Cutting and pasting functions are accomplished by right clicking in the column heads (or elsewhere)

Hi Michael, Just a brief add...I'm not sure what is info is typical to show in UK, but there is a bit of a bug in the Door Schedule - in the column where the data for the SILL DETAIL will flow, in the Database Header row, you need to change the "code" slightly to read 'ThreshDetail' NOT 'ThresholdDetail' - then the info you enter in the Door Settings pane will flow correctly. Otherwise, the Door and Window Schedules are truly labor savers as they are coordinated and updated as you change things in the model - they are also two-way so you can change, say, the width of a window and it will change in plan good luck, let us know how it goes
  13. V-G, Try these settings in the Attributes Panel - you were headed in the right direction utilizing "Use Part Line Styles" The Attributes Palette for doors and windows should be set up thus: ? Fill Style-by Class, ? Fill Color-by Class, ? Pen Style-SOLID (NOT by Class), ? Pen Color-by Class ? Thickness (Line Weight)-NOT by Class ? These settings will allow the line weight set up in ?Use Part Line Styles? dialog to show correctly in sheet layers ? don?t forget to bump up ?Wall Lines? line weight for RCP (Controlled by Ceiling-Main Class)

However, this doesn't seem to be true for the Door ID/ Door-Spec class - I can't get a color shift???
  15. Are you suggesting inserting the door width in the "Label" spot in the door Settings pane? Yes, you could do that...
  16. Or lettering/numbering your sheets as you would for "production" i.e. A1.1, A1.2, A1.3, A2.1, A2.2, etc...
  17. I agree, class everything then you'll have the ability to override in elevation, section, etc. allowing your drawings to really "pop".
  18. For some reason "Show other objects while in groups" works fine - except on floors, where the other objects seem to disappear...hmmmm
  19. For masonry walls - the ability to corbel in/out a course of block/brick every "x" courses vertically resulting in band course(s) around the building
  20. It would be nice to have the ability to show objects (like beams, etc.) dashed (overhead) - just one dash style works for me
  21. When "Edit Group" is entered, it would be nice to be able to see surrounding geometries
  22. It would be nice to NOT have the small line segment in the middle of the plan when "Use Gapped Line" is utilized
  23. It would be nice if these only showed in ELEVATION/Hidden Line only as I don't really need them to show in my (3D) model
  24. It would be quite useful to allow these to appear in elevation
  25. On a Mac - Apple/Shift 4 creates a marquee controlled picture on your desktop, Apple/Shift/Control 4 copies a marquee controlled picture to your clipboard
