    edid roof size

If the roof was created by "Create Roof" dialog (not a roof face), it can be reshaped by using the 3D reshape tool by picking one of the blue nodes and pulling it out. If it's a Roof Face - double clicking takes you into Roof editing mode where you are basically editing a polygon by selecting one of the blue nodes

    Crown Mouldings with Flared Ends

I started with a 2D polygon shaped like a "U" in 2D top/plan view. I then converted the poly to a NURBS curve which provides you with the ability to go to a 3D front view. I then modified the NURBS curve (in Front view) by selecting a node and pulling it up. This shape becomes the PATH. I then created a molding profile (or you can use a "real" one from a supplier). Finally, I ran the "Extrude Along Path" command.

    class organisation

As Christiaan points out, the "Shuttle File" method will provide you with the means to work efficiently without all the "messy" Acad layers cum classes. It'll also reduce file size... I think alot of folks will agree they never directly import an Acad file into their VW work. Wes

    layer height wall height association

Could it be that the Insertion Option for the particular wall style is set at 6'-6 3/8" causing the wall to be drawn at that height. Then if you tell VW to "Link to the delta Z" the wall will change to that height...

    Trace sketch

Hey David, Is the layer "stacking order" set up such that your imported image is on the "bottom" otherwise it MIGHT mask what you're trying to draw. Also is your Layer Vis sets on something other than "Active Only"? Unfortunately I skipped from v10 to 2008 so I have no direct experience wit h12.5. Good luck Wes

    US Wall Types

Hey Bill, As I'm sure you know, VW ships with a fair number already made. I tend to make them on the fly and end up classing all the various components so I can, let's say, dimension to face of stud or face of sheathing just by manipulating the class visibilities. Wes

    Window/door special classes

In the Door (or Window) Settings palette, under the VIEW tab try "Use Part Line Styles" to adjust your line weights for individual parts. The Attributes Palette for doors and windows should be set up thus: ? Fill Style-by Class, ? Fill Color-by Class, ? Pen Style-SOLID (NOT by Class), ? Pen Color-by Class ? Thickness (Line Weight)-NOT by Class ? These settings will allow the line weight set up in ?Use Part Line Styles? dialog to show correctly in sheet layers ? don?t forget to bump up ?Wall Lines? line weight for RCP (Controlled by Ceiling-Main Class)

    File Sizes

As MCH says, symbols help to reduce file size, maybe there's a good place to "break" and use workgroup referencing? Wes

need help with simple record and database

If you use the Hardscape Tool, try a simple test in a new document by just drawing a simple shape then just go to Tools >> Report >> Create Reports and create a report... one of the many fields is "Main Area" which will give you what you need.... It might also be helpful if you'd post up what system you use, etc. in your sig.

    Why are my windows black??

Hi Allison, Could it be you've turned OFF AutoClassing and the class the window is ending up in has black fill? Maybe post up a sample file and we'll "work" on it... Wes

    Selection Indicator not Visible

Hey C W, You may want to contact Tech - they might want you to attach/send them the file to "proof" it for a bug or not... Wes

    No nudge?

Actually "Nudge" is pretty cool You can nudge by pixel using Shift + Arrow keys OR You can nudge by a user defined distance using Apple + Arrow keys - set the distance by going to VectorWorks Preference and at the bottom find Move Objects: Choose "By Custom Distance" and enter what you want...

    creating Polys from walls tool

The way I do it is go ahead and create Gross Poly from walls then use the Offset command to reduce the size of the poly...in my case on this last project, I had 7/8" thick siding + 1/2" sheathing - added together equaled 1 3/8" so I just reduced the size of the Gross Poly using the Offset scenario by 1 3/8" resulting in a poly I could then turn into a Floor Object and model my project correctly....

Demensioning from outside of stud to outside of stud

Additionally, You'll need to know the overall thickness of the wall, divide by two then subtract the thickness of the siding + sheathing and that's the number you enter into the Control Offset data field. Find this at Wall Prefs. >> Insertion Options >> Control Offset. If you just enter a number in Control Offset, you are offsetting from the center of the wall NOT the face... Hope this helps

    Section Marker attributes - disappearing!

I create a class called Section/Elevation Bugs where my markers(bugs) are placed...this seems to work consistently for me as long as I remember to turn that class on...

I use "Extrude Along Path" for my rails...depending on the panel, you could use "Clip Surface" to pierce holes in a poly and then extrude to the desired thickness
