    Controlling visibility using data visualisation

@line-weight....what's changed in 2020 is that you can visualize data in both sheet AND design layers 1) You can view your data with "the other stuff" grayed out - see screen shot - at the bottom is a drop-down providing "Draw All Other Objects" either Normally of Greyed 2) Soon 3) Yes

    Disassociating a Data Tag

@Dick Jenkins...Here's a tag that lets you enter whatever you want... Tagger v2020.vwx

    Disassociating a Data Tag

@Dick Jenkins...oops...yep, the Number Tag is set up to ONLY allow numeric characters...no ALPHA (text) allowed...sorry...

    Nurbs to polyline

Obviously Kevin's and Andy's method is more efficient as you end up with a polyline (with WAY few control points) 🙂

    Disassociating a Data Tag

@Dick Jenkins...yes, I understand...that's why I chose something like the number stamp tag style as it doesn't require any object...it's sort of like a "dummy" tag. And you can get into the tag in the Resource Manager and edit it to look like whatever you want...below is an example where I replaced the circle with a polygonal shape. Here's the file as well... Tagger.vwx
  6. Hi All, An often overlooked feature is the ability to take a hatch from the library and modify it to suit then save it as a new hatch whereupon it becomes available in the Resource Manager. The steps are: Hatch some shape with a "standard" hatch Select the Attribute Mapping tool from the Basic Tool palette Alter it as desired (corners change size, midway point provide rotation) Right-click and from contextual menu, choose "New Hatch from Locally Mapped Hatch" Voila!

    Disassociating a Data Tag

@Dick Jenkins...what version of Vectorworks are you running? Here's a file from 2019...it seems to work there... Tagger.vwx

Finished Floor Slab and Structural Slab on separate Layers?

@MaltbyDesign...how about this...set the door on your First floor Layout layer and then in the door dialog, create a threshold with "0" in most of the fields except the "Z-Offset" field where you can enter 3/4". In this example, I've exaggerated it a bit...this gets the head heights correct.

    Disassociating a Data Tag

@Dick JenkinsYou could use something like the "Number Stamp" tag that'll let you tag anything...you can then input whatever number you want into its data field. The image is a "tagged" rectangle... Wes

@mgebel...here's a bit about NURBS in Vectorworks I wrote a little while ago... Wes 18_VW00279_Workflow_Doc_NURBS_101_horizontal.pdf

    render resolution

Another idea for rendering in viewports is to set the sheet layer resolution really LOW so you get a quick initial rendering making sure all objects, the view, etc. etc. are set up correctly then jack up the DPI of the sheet to get final good-looking renderings.

    3D Drawing Elevations and Sections

@Kane...your class that the walls are in needs to have a FILL...right now they have no fill that's why in openGL the walls still look like wireframe. You may want to have a look at some of the getting started material on our website. Additionally, you may want to have a look at the two threads that are posted at the top of the Architecture section - "No Stories, No Problem" and "Model Set-Up". These talk you through the two types of wall styles as well as some hints on setting up a file. There are sample files there as well. I would start with "No Stories, No Problem" to get a firm understanding of a layer-bound wall style, how it's created, how it can interact with slabs, etc. "Model Set-Up" talks about using stories to help define the height of certain elements that are "story aware." Controlling classes in referenced files

@SharonP...you may have to consider using Layer Import Referencing rather than Design Layer Viewport referencing. I've attached a couple of documents, although they're a bit out of date, they describe both types of referencing and some of the pros and cons of each method. Enjoy! @Josh-gsy...that could work...you may have some issues at the edges...try a couple of simple ones and see which results produce the best objects for your design.

    Two-Way Finish Schedule

Hi Everyone, Ever have a large project (or maybe even a not-so-large project) requiring you to enter lots of finish information and then having to change it and update it again and again from each individual space? Ever wished for a worksheet where you could edit the finish information, change the space name and/or the space number and do it for either one cell or the entire column? Well, now you can… First, I’d like to thank all the folks who had a hand in creating this as it’s taken quite a few hours to create, document and test the functionality. Are we there yet? Nope…but this a HUGE workflow improvement for anyone who has struggled with the Finish Schedule. Enclosed is a Vectorworks file containing two worksheets and a pdf file containing instructions and set-up information for managing finishes from a worksheet. Of the two worksheets, one is a fairly standard Finish Schedule (in fact, the one from Tools>Reports>VA Create Schedule> “Room Finish Schedule”) will work just fine…, the other is what we call a housekeeping worksheet, “Custom Room Finish Housekeeper” that pushes the information to the actual Finish Schedule. This system is set up to take advantage of Project/Workgroup folders for use over a server but could be simplified for local use and still maintain the ability to edit from a worksheet. I’ve also included Pat Stanford’s worksheet (thanks Pat!!!, sure made this easier…) that returns all the variables from a given plug-in object and a little secret script letting you change the speed of the new view transition. Bonus! So please, read the instructions once or twice, take the worksheets apart, see where the information comes from and goes to, give it a try and report back so that we can continue to improve the workflow. Data Visualisation / VW2020

Hi All, At this point, Data Vis does not support INOBJECT which is what would be needed to look inside the hanging position for the truss object. Wes

    render resolution

In fact, we recommend doing your rendering in viewports...and as fabrica points out, you can change the DPI of the sheet layer...I usually go to 300 for anything rendered. Yes, it takes a little longer for the rendering...

    Creating attic ceilings

@Josh-gsy...maybe use the Split tool in the second mode and use the underside of the roof face as your guide to split the "ceiling". In this case, the ceiling is a simple extrude

Import Rhino V6 .3dm file fails

@milezee...since it's not really a bug, the best way is to use the "Wishlist" function here on the Board. Wes
